Exactly, they're not going to open a 55-gallon drum of worms by letting one school slide by on an NCAA policy, the resulting lawsuits would be staggering.
-
What keeps baffling me is that people are constantly coming on here and claiming, under what I can only label as "false hope", that the NCAA will magically decide to make the sanctions go away after a few years. Why in the f would they?! They have battled UND on this issue for years which still isn't settled and has caused them an enormous amount of headaches and manpower and money, do you really think they have a soft spot in their hearts for the Fighting Sioux school that has been a pain in their ass? They legally won, and people who have legally won DO NOT give back what they have won, especially if it means compromising their "integrity" on an issue...and yes I am using that term very loosely.
-
"The Athletic Director, Faison, was telling everybody that the Big Sky Conference is really worried about the Fighting Sioux thing," said Soderstrom. "We found out later through a former UND athletic director, who is now at San Diego State, that that`s not true. It wasn`t even brought up." We've been through this before. Not only is San Diego State NOT in the Big Sky Conference, Terry Wanless has no clue how the BSC is set to deal with UND if the nickname is forced to be kept, SDSU has no insight or input. What a joke.

And after that hook me up with the winning Powerball numbers, I could use some extra cash going into summer.

I agree, the moderation team has not been fair. Anybody who calls other posters as*holes should be kicked off this site, but the mod team has been one-sided and let him stay.

Yeah, if any Bisonville posters see it they should sock it away right now, guaranteed to make the Final Four of the tournament.

I pray you keep posting comments like this. The ironic thing is people like you and Dave have done more to torpedo the vote than any of the people you constantly argue with on here, what do you think any sane person who comes here looking for guidance on the vote thinks when they read things like this and "I would rather they eliminated athletics than change the name"? Keep up the good work.

I'm sure the biggest factor is changing majors, when we went to orientation in Missoula they said 81% of freshman would change majors before graduating, that has to push them back at least a semester or two. Another thing I've heard from other parents is their kid couldn't get into the last class or two they needed as a senior so they had to go for another semester to get that one or two class requirement, which seems a little odd because the seniors register first but I guess it's still first-come first-serve so the demand must be there. And then there's the Tommy Boy students...

And the beat goes on...

You can look at it that way or look at it as money left on the table...I'm sure it's a pretty common practice much like UND charges more for Minnesota and Wisconsin (not sure about Denver) in hockey, if you need the money or can justify it because of demand then I don't have a problem with a few more bucks for a game with a big rival. But either way it's their call so meh.

HOLY CRAP for a minute there I thought lomackman was back! Remember him guys? And his "sources"?

I would like to lock you in a room with all the current UND athletes and have you repeat those statements. I bet they would be understanding to your stance.

No problem, Griz football is the one thing I actually know a little bit about, although lately it's been more about arrest reports, investigations, and firings than actual football news. What a mess.

If Johnson is truly gone and stays gone it will be a major hit on this years team, the best QB left would probably be McKinney but the dropoff from Johnson is steep. I personally don't think Nate Montana is any good, I've seen him play a half-dozen times and he stunk every time, so to me he was not the answer either. Without Johnson the chances of Poly or someone else slipping into a playoff spot will improve dramatically. Lot of finger-pointing going on in Missoula right now, half the people think Engstrom is leading a witch-hunt to cover his ass and getting rid of all parties who may or may not be guilty of anything (Pflu, O'Day, Johnson), the other half think Engstrom is a savior purging the system of corruption. Hopefully the facts will come out eventually and put this to rest so the program can move on, I don't think Engstrom is out of the woods as far as keeping his job either. At least the focus of this thing has been where it should be, keeping the female students safe from attacks, how it was allowed to get to that point baffles me.

Yeah, the point is 54 pages later the arguments remains the same. Maybe this thread needs to die, if they actually sign a deal we can come up with a new topic.

Thought this was amusing though a little long, shows how ridiculous the game of conference musical chairs has gotten. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--conference-realignment--blame-someone-else-and-pass-the-checks.html;_ylt=Atng6Y1y6Ly1dtBy_961_rA5nYcB

There is nothing that SL or SR can do now that will change the fate of UND being sanctioned if the name stays. The NCAA won this battle by default when UND could not get approval from the 2 tribes. The NCAA gave UND plenty of time to gain this approval, but the two tribes, because of indifference or politics, either would not or did not give what was required by THE SIGNED DOCUMENT THAT UND AGREED TO, and when you enter a contract and don't hold up your end, the other side wins. Always. The End.

Looked back to the beginning of this thread and found this as one of the original posts, pretty much states what has become the conclusion as far as what makes sense in renewing the series...every other year with rotating venues. And over a year later it looks possible that this might be the scenario that plays out, starting when is the only question. Good call, from a Bison fan no less.
-
I understand your argument, and agree that UND will probably not be at the level of those schools in the beginning, but being they are looking at games starting in 2015 and 2017 all the kids who are freshman this year (the first year out of transition) will be seniors for the first game and should be able to compete with anybody. Scheduling that far out it's impossible to tell how good either team is going to be, if they wait until UND "proves themselves worthy", whether that is by beating one of the Montana schools or making the playoffs or whatever, this game might get pushed back even further yet the way teams are forced to plan their schedules years ahead these days, and it would be a shame if these 2 teams didn't get together for another 5 or 10 years. Especially if 2015 comes along and UND is fielding a product that is equal to or better than what NDSU is fielding.

What I find funny is the Big Least, which has been a doormat in big-time football, can now become a powerhouse in the "Tier 2" level with all the majors powers jockeying to get into the new Snob Championship Tourney...doghouse one day, penthouse the next. Sometimes you fall in crap and come out smelling like a rose.
-
Absolutely. If I'm NDSU right now I would love to play UND and pound them because I have the better team and I want everybody to know it, and want to have that to point at when it comes recruiting time next year. And as confident as they are in their program, why would it be unrealistic to expect that they will win more games than they lose in the rivalry the next 5 or 10 years? It's the same out here, Griz fans chomp at the bit for the Montana State game, beating them every year is what keeps Montana ahead of the Bobcats in every sense, and even in the unlikely event the 2 schools would end up in different conferences it would be important for the Griz to keep the game going to keep the Cats playing second fiddle. Are they going to beat them every time? No, but as long as they dominate the series they will continue to reap the rewards. Neither school really needs this game anymore because of their respective conferences, but it should happen now that the playing field is level again, and if an effort is made by one side and rejected by the other it's going to look like they ducked the game, and I wouldn't want the chickensh*t label hanging on my head.
-
Shouldn't the fact that fans of both schools and the people of North Dakota in general would really enjoy seeing this game, more than any other game on the schedule including Montana or anybody else, be a big factor in renewing this rivalry? You know, taxpayers and such? Seems hypocritical to me for NDSU to keep pounding the "we can't afford to lose a home game every 4 years" excuse when it's actually punishing the very people who help support their program.
