I agree, play it safe and pick a name. Once UND has a nickname like every school in the NCAA has then there is nothing they can do to the school for fans wearing a "historical" name and logo.

Didn't St Clown State not print the Sioux name and logo and just referred to us as only North Dakota before the NA policy by the NCAA even came out. You know that would be one school once hockey season starts would complain.

UND did do that, when they were the Flickertails it didn't get support and Nodaks was still used.

I can see Indian tribes protesting fans using the Fighting Sioux name thus forcing the NCAA to sanction UND. Just play it safe and choose a new name and end this once and for all.

They said go ahead and have no nickname but if anyone complains (whether from inside UND or another school or group) about fans cheering on the Fighting Sioux name then it's sanctions time. Plain and simple, the no nickname option just got a death sentence. Neither UND nor the SBoHE want to go through that again.

This name may get a lot of push now that the NCAA has spoken.

Exactly and no one can say that the majority of the crowd would not wear Fighting Sioux gear (in favor of the plain UND gear) if they had no nickname, the proof was how many "Sioux fans" showed up at the rally a week or so ago.

Possible schools that would complain: St Cloud State Wisconsin Minnesota Emphisis on the first school, so it's obvious choose a new nickname and NCAA can't touch us as we would be in the same boat as Marquette, Dartmouth, and all the other Indian nicknamed schools that changed. As long as we have a new name you can still wear Sioux gear.

could they play a "home" game in Charleston kinda like UMass does at Gillette Stadium and count that towards the 15k requirement?

Wait until the shift happens and they don't punch the ticket to Frisco or go into a home playoff rut then the wheels will come off the bandwagon and tickets will be more available for cheap.

They don't, just like UND doesn't need NDSU. It's the fans that want the two teams to play not stubborn people like RT, Kupchella, Gene Taylor and others that closed the door on the rivalry. It's the ordinary football fan from all parts of the state, region and country that want this game to happen like it did since 1894.

I was there with my dad and son, that was a great game. Even the Montana fans in front of us was nice to talk to.

I didn't know what thread to put this question and I didn't want to start a new thread but on Thursday I took the fam through Riverside Park, I haven't been through there since shortly after the flood of 97, things look different by the dam there is a walking bridge going over the river. When did they build that and add a walking trail around the river? I am very impressed how they have improved the scenery around the river both downtown and around riverside park.

Bubba is getting great talent for the defense but we need probably more talent on the offensive side of the ball, I would love another FBS transfer in some key positions like RB or even QB. If only Braden Hanson was a freshman instead of a one year and done he was the best "passing" QB I've ever seen at UND.

I agree, and in the piece "When they were kings" Pat Sweeney said the game will be big but not like before because it will be a non-conference game. That will put the game on the same level as the other sports UND plays NDSU in. It's an OOC game, big deal, means nothing etc. All this game will do is up the bragging rights between the schools and get closer to the magic number in making the playoffs with a win.

I think for the 2015 season that will be the biggest question mark of them all. Who starts and how they look in fall practice.

But if UND wins or if it's a nail biter the state will see how improved UND has gotten and there will be more pressure to get this game annually or as close as possible.
