I would like to know how many of the No Nickname crowd actually has more than one item with just UND or the interlocking ND on it? I am sure all of us has more than 1 item with the Fighting Sioux name/logo on it but how many have more than one without any logo on it. I personally have more than one shirt without the Sioux name and logo but I would like to see UND with a nickname and would probably buy a shirt with the new name because I support UND no matter what nickname it is.

This is why UND needs a new nickname, to end the bickering among UND fans. We should be united in choosing a new name, a new chapter in the history books, not cut each other down. A name needs to be picked so this issue will die. Nickname debates has ended at all the other schools who had to change their names, but this one is festering out of control.

Exactly. People need to accept that UND will have a nickname and it is one of the 5 names the committee chose. Pick a name, avoid any future sanctions, and cheer on the UND (insert new nickname here).

And when that committee comes up with 5 names people don't like we can keep the no nickname, be on sanctions, and pick a third committee. We'll call it the nickname merry-go-round.

Marquette changed theirs in 1994 and people still cheer for the Warriors. Just pick a new name, wear your Sioux gear and life at UND will continue. Don't pick a new nickname and the fear of sanctions, the division of the fan base will continue to tear the University apart.

Hampered no, distraction yes. The whole school gets distracted on this issue from the top to the bottom. Others get distracted too from the media to fans. Is there a game where the nickname issue isn't brought up by someone? Is there a day, a week, a month when there isn't a story, a letter, or even a post on a message board talking about this? Prior to August 2005 there wasn't much talk about UND's nickname, now its about as bad as it was when this policy started. It died down when the cooling off period started now that the period has ended its a firestorm again. Will it die if UND has no nickname...yeah right. Everyone will talk about when (NOT IF) the NCAA will drop the hammer once again on the University of North Dakota. Yeah this nickname thing is not hampering sports....but it is distracting.

When you average only 12k what's the point of making it a 20k dome.

Are the euro teams good as in if they were in a conference in the NCAA would they be mid majors, low majors or p5 type teams? Because UND putting the smackdown on these teams while other "major" teams aren't beating them as much is a really good sign that this team has improved, and could build a good deal of confidence not only on the team itself but restore confidence on the fans too.

What about the Big 12 instead of being decimated, but downgrade to a G5 conference and start a upper BSC/upper MVFC type conference? Would that work?

Just shows how much of a joke that rule is and it should be removed or strictly enforced.

Or have a "home" game at TCF Bank Stadium (52,525 capacity) and that would help that 15k average. Highest attendance average at the Alerus is 10,167 in 2008 for 5 games (no NDSU) so 39,165 would have been made up to reach 15k. 24,165 X 12 bucks is $469,980 or 39,165 attendance at TCF between UND and (name your oppenent).

If Datmouth students wear Dartmouth Indians gear (some do) are they going to get sanctioned by the NCAA? Also at Marquette there were people wearing an Indian headdress along with Warrior gear and the NCAA has done nothing to that school and why....THEY HAVE A NICKNAME.

A lot of teams break that rule from basically the whole Mac conference to Idaho to other lower level G5 teams. I think even UND could get to 15k in 2 out of the 3 years requirement if they played a "home" game at a bigger stadium (TCF) or have a corporation buyout the remaining tickets (Eastern Michigan Rule). There is ways around this rule that has very little impact on schools as the NCAA does a crappy job of enforcing it. Win and you put butts in the seats.
