So this board is just for alums students and faculty. That goes along with the Bison fan that would make fun of me for being a UND fan because I didn't attend the school (only those who attend can be fans). So I need to not type anything because being a die hard UND fan (I'n wearing a Sioux shirt as I type this) a Grand Forks resident from the time I was born (1976) until I moved to Fargo (1999) and athletic supporter since I buy game tickets and UND gear, I should just get off the board....well tough.

SCSU refused to recognize UND as the Fighting Sioux before the policy started by not printing their nickname and logo and not announcing their nickname at games. Minnesota and Wisconsin are part of the Big 10 who has a no NA nickname policy, you don't think there are people who won't protest at those games when droves of Sioux fans pack Mariucci, and the Kohl Center. Don't put anything past the NCAA, anti NA nickname groups or even media as you see the mess we are in now.

St. Cloud State, Wisconsin and Minnesota and that's just from playing them in hockey not bad for starters.

If ND did the one flagship school it would for sports it would take NDSU while leaving UND with DI hockey due to recent success and fan support.

Why? Drive over to RRHS and start polling and if your results are against Roughriders then yes i am delusional. Until then opinions vary.

Maybe UND needs to have a GF/EGF blackout on live streaming. That way local fans should attend while people out of the area can still see the game online.

They will be too busy talking about the nickname issue while calling the Bison UND.

Do they really need it? UND has the history, coaches, facilities to field a great hockey team, will money change that? Say UND pays X amount of dollars to every player while Miami doesn't and UND fails to win the NCHC or make the playoffs while Miami goes to the Frozen Four; you would have an uproar on campus. I think UND is already a leg up on the competition as far as hockey goes, but could use a "boost" in other sports like football, basketball and others.

I don't think they would care and probably would love it.

The playoff game in the Alerus when UND was still the Fighting Sioux and not in a cooling off period.

I go to the Potato Bowl every year and there is less and less Sioux gear and cheering lets go Sioux than at a hockey game. How much cheering is there for the "Sioux" at the Betty? At Kraft? At the Hyslop? It is pretty much hockey vs all other sports when it's about funding and the Sioux name.

Ever been to a game outside the REA? It's not so loud in fact it's almost non-existent in the Alerus.

No, I was upset with every UND thread I started which was invaded massively by Bison trolls ultimately ending in me getting warnings by the mod for replying to the trolls. I left before I got banned and I don't care to ever return.

It already changed, there is less and less Fighting Sioux gear wearing fans in the seats along with the disappearance of Let's Go Sioux and Home of the Sioux and it's been 3 years since we haven't had a nickname. Prepare for more Sioux-less fans when we get a nickname. I use GFC as reference because it's in UND's backyard and UND is going through exactly what happened to the Redskin name.

I like Hawks, and Roughriders I don't like North Stars (too much Minnesota in that name) Nodaks can be a filler to have the Fighting Sioux as the "unofficial" nickname of UND just like it (Nodaks) was when Flickertails was the nickname As for Sundogs....I don't think so.

Its all over the net, you even see a glimpse of the shooter when the cameraman is falling. Very sad.

So they scare this guy with a camera but didn't show up when there was a guy taking pics of kids at a pool earlier this summer.

Thats right, we would be the same as Illinois, Arkansas St, Marquette, (name your once Indian nicknamed school here). However on the flip side the chants of Let's go Sioux will diminish more and more and be almost non-existant in about 5-10 years. (See Dartmouth, Stanford, Grand Forks Central)

Last year they came out with shirts that said NDSU Bisons, now this. Nice!!!!

Are the no nickname crowd worried that UND will turn out like GF Central? Where all the Redskin cheering has stopped and all you hear is Knights, Knights, Knights; where all the merchandising is not of an Indian chief but of a Knight? Well as you can see from any retailer the Sioux merchandising is all but gone, very little remain. Fans aren't united in saying "Go Sioux", its maybe 50-50. Reality is kicking in and the Sioux name and logo is disappearing except in the history books.

Don't forget how the NCAA could never disrupt the state law that stated UND had to remain the Fighting Sioux, again how did that turn out.
