I believe that there were some politics involved with Texas using it's influence to push Nebraska out. I believe that most of the issues was around the State of Nebraska moving the Medical School to a separate entity versus being under UNL. I believe that Syracuse also left that year questioning the politics of the organization. Since then Iowa St. has left AAU also. Not sure what the kerfuffle is all about. But, there have several articles in the news recently about redefining the definitions around AAU status.

Maybe they should reach out to Colorado School of Mines - R1 School just outside of Denver. Of course, they would need to workout a few historical issues. But, I have to say - I am all in favor of a school that wants to blow DU up (I kid sort of). Colorado School of Mines - University of Denver War[edit] Tensions between the Colorado School of Mines and University of Denver, locked in a bitter rivalry, boiled over in 1919 when the Orediggers heard of a plot to deface the M. In retaliation to the plot, students from the Colorado School of Mines planted bundles of dynamite on the DU campus which, when detonated in the early morning, blew out windows in many buildings, and cracked the DU administration building.[15] The chancellor of DU stated "“If all the dynamite planted on our campus had exploded simultaneously, it would have knocked down our buildings and destroyed life."[16] Posters were found across the DU campus stating "Get DU and then what? Give 'Em hell Mines." In the evening of the bombing, students left DU with crimson paint, the school colors of the University of Denver, to paint the M. Expecting an response from DU, the Colorado School of Mines had set up a patrols on Mount Zion, and after a brief gunfight, the DU students were captured. No one was injured. The prisoners were kept in the basement of various fraternity houses where their foreheads were branded with silver nitrate in the shape of an M. The students of the School of Mines also lured an Denver Post reporter who was subjected to the same treatment, less the branding, for his supposed slanderous reporting. The Colorado School of Mines students paraded their prisoners down the streets of Golden, and implemented armed patrols of Mount Zion, claiming the right to search all vehicles for concealed DU students. CSM President, Victor C. Alderson, gave official sanction to the actions of the Colorado School of Mines students, however the Colorado governor, Oliver Shoup asked the schools to seek an truce. Representatives from both schools agreed to an cease and opted for a game of football to settle the conflict. The game was played on a blizzardy day, and resulted in an 0-0 tie.[15] The disgruntled DU students later planted dynamite on the M, but misplacement led to only a small part of the M being damaged. Colorado School of Mines students contemplated kidnapping select DU students to act as the manual labor to repair the M, but it was never seen through due to the grand jury investigation, and the possibility of mutually assured destruction.

You can see that in many ways the Summit League has passed the MVC outside of UIC. This comment is in reference to school profile.

It is interesting to see the changes in the Summit League over the last 20 years. Today the best ways to describe the Summit League: National Research Universities (R1 or R2) - R&D Exp $25 million to $165 million Flagship Universities (Rural) / Urban (Public/Private) Academic Spending over $200 million to $500 million US News National Rank (100 to 300) Med School, Law School, or Land Grant These are the schools that the tSL should be considering as future members. Currently, the only outlier on this is Oral Roberts.

Before the tSL goes looking for a school they need to decide what type of conference they want to be: 1) Status quo with Olympic sports 2) Support Hockey? 3) Support Football? Based on those answers. You start your search for the right school. I think the tSL can afford to wait and see how things shakeout over the next year or two.

True they are in different locations and have different strengths and weaknesses. St. Thomas is sitting in one of the centers for college recruiting. That is a big advantage. All things being said does anybody think they can win a battle vs Gophers for the MN kid?? No that's not reasonable to believe. They may not win recruiting battles head to head with U of M. But they can beat UMD, Mankato St, and SCSU head to head. And those programs compete will U of M just fine. but by 10 years time.... its fair to see an established program be nationally competitive and fit within the structure (that we know today) that the NCHC is. So to say St Thomas is 10 years away is a very rational and reasonable assertion. So, we both agree that St. Thomas is going to be a national competitive program. You are saying wait 10 years until they have proven themselves. I say you are missing out on years of growth and opportunity for the conference overall. It gets you scheduled games in the TC, it gets you additional conference revenue from both a marketing and attendance dollars. It gets you regional media exposure. BOTH sides of the equation win. When both sides are winning you make the deal.

By different landscape, are you saying new P5 schools starting hockey and NIL. I think NIL/transfer portal is the one thing that is going to be the equalizer for St. Thomas. Alumni are very motived to compete with the Gophs at the national level in hockey. You say 10 years, No - they will be ready sooner than that. If Mankato St. can build a program for the bottom of the WCHA to national ranked in 5 years. I think St. Thomas can too. The team that hits the ice in 2025 (4th year) for St. Thomas is going to be ready to play. NOTE: It took ASU 3 years to make the NCAA Playoffs. "With the help of a $75 million donation, the University of St. Thomas will build a new arena for hockey and basketball to be ready for the 2025 athletic seasons." The entire project is projected to cost $175 million in total.

Hmm not sure I agree with the comparison. BIG - Football, Basketball, Hockey/Baseball Summit League - Hockey, Basketball.... Attendance comparisons between basketball and hockey are not close Summit League Teams Games Total Attendance Avg Attendance Basketball 10 147 265,327 1,805 NCHC Hockey 8 155 858,927 5,541 I don't think the Summit League Conference is going to put Hockey on the back burner. I think this about schools that share Summit League and NCHC being able to leverage Branding efforts. The top 3 programs in the NCHC are Summit League. Those schools with major objections better start putting some more efforts in their programs. Because the drop-off is steep. And when St. Thomas joins the NCHC that is going to be top four programs. St. Thomas in the NCHC is a no brainer and the benefits will be mutual.

UMD is not a big stick.. St. Thomas would be a big stick.

I was simply stating that forgiveness on the exit fee has been done before. If a program/school has reasons - drop in enrollment, program in the red - may have to drop the program. Then the conference "could" see what they can do to help. In this case swapping Miami for a St. Thomas could help both conferences and schools. Or bringing in ASU. I am applying the Goodwill portion to this based on what is best for the growth of College Hockey with limited impact on the conference overall. If that isn't present and there isn't a complying reason to help out. Then apply the exit fee if they want to leave. And it shouldn't be expected in the future. Again, look to the Big Sky, SUU left the Big Sky for the WAC a few years after UND left the Big Sky. The exit fee was applied.

Different sport with a bit of a back story, but Big Sky waived the exit fee for UND. In fact, they continued to help with scheduling for two/three years in football as UND moved to the Summit League. So, there can be a goodwill angle to things. If Miami wants out and they conduct business in a forthright manner I see no problem with it. The NCHC has plenty of options to backfill if needed. It could be a win/win situation and could be a model for hockey going forward. We all want college hockey to grow with growth comes conference movement why make it painful. Again, if a school doesn't notify the conference and goes about it the wrong way. The exit fee applies and a boot to the ass on the way out is fine with me.

I feel like football has received significant support since moving to D1 you have: - CoA - Phase I - Phase II (I assume that this started this spring?) - New Athletic Village That is significant investments for the football program. Again, SDSU and USD both have mortgage payments for the facilities they have in place. Once the facilities are built out for UND and the all the other updates on campus. UND will be on equal footing and in some cases they will have advantages.

After we played NAU, I thought that win would turn out to be a sneaky quality win that would helped UND in the playoff brackets. But, NAU kind of disappointed after that game.

It might be coincidence, but schools might be finding out that media rights are more valuable when grouped together. When StT is ready to go full scholarship football might be next. Summit Leagues teams are carrying both conferences why have three conferences. Show the full strength of the Summit League schools. NOTE: I am all for a conference name change I don't get the name. I have seen several people ask why the Big Sky has a better media deal. Well this could be the reason why - Summit League schools are too fragmented in conference affiliations. No consistency in branding.

Yeah, R13 had some problems. I am sure that they have the R15's which has several improvements, but it is still expensive. It's good to see Intel starting to recover but the chip still runs hot. It's been a while since I was on the line with motherboards rolling out. Fun stuff and blast from the past.

I am really excited about the offense this year because I think the O-line is going to be good.
