He was spoofing the idea of tourism dollars from the State. He was serious about funding from other sources. I didn't see any baiting for SDSU fans, but he was directly comparing funding sources for both of the State schools, which is why UND fans should pay attention. Next paragraph "The point is NDSU athletics has been underfunded by the state for years. ..." So, the real message from the article is that NDSU Athletics is underfunded. Look at NDSU compared to UND. Look at NDSU compared to other FBS programs. And I can't tell you how many times I have heard this statement from the Bison faithful and numerous other Bison media figures (Sam Herder has this topic on speed dial for an annual article). And they always point to the USA Today database as the primary reference. Which is why my original response to the article was that this is a false equivalency because of differences in Title IX approaches and charitable gambling proceeds. FYI - They are already talking about the need for upgrades at Fargodome for expanded FBS coaching offices. Next, it is Fargodome upgrades needed for additional revenue generating opportunities and expansion to support better FBS opponents.

I never said the statement came from a school representative, and I never said McFeely was being logical. But the article released by the Fargo media was clearly framed around the idea that UND already relies more on government resources for athletics than NDSU, so why shouldn’t NDSU receive additional government support as well? That support could come in many forms — changes to funding models, student government approving additional fees, or increased backing from state, county, or city entities. The article was clearly intended to start conversations about expanding public support for NDSU athletics. So to say nobody is asking for that is simply naive on your part. There was obviously a purpose behind the article.

I was simply providing an explanation as to why there is a difference. Most of the time, the Fargo media does not mention the gender or charitable gambling revenue differences. I think that is intentional because the general public does not fully understand those distinctions. In addtion, the choices made by the schools generations ago may not be viewed as favorably by the public today, so they tend to keep that part quiet. As a result, many people are left with the impression that UND relies more heavily on public funding than NDSU. But there is $1.22 million dollar gender imbalance. So, if you account for gender and charity you are looking at $2.22 million dollar difference. Then if you take in account that UND dropped Tennis which was approximately $1.0 million dollar expense. You can see much of the difference between the schools is accounted. Here is an example using 2022 data from USA Today. As you can see, things even out very quickly. So, what do you say Dan, let's be more fair to lady's and start womens hockey at NDSU. What was the $10 million bailout from a couple years ago?

I think UND’s is around 50%. Any number of factors drive the difference: 1. Different Title IX compliance approaches: measuring based on interest versus a true 50/50 participation model. 2. NDSU receives around $1M from charitable gambling in the Fargo area, while UND has chosen not to pursue that funding approach for athletics. 3. NDSU has gone back to students for additional funding and has been denied. UND students have generally been somewhat more receptive to increased support. The reality is that both North Dakota schools rely on public resources far less than the average Division I state-supported university.

In the LLHC is states that this is for hockey. It does not mention basketball.

Nebraska fans are great and very friendly. The Haymarket is a great area to hangout during the weekend.

It’s been a mixed season for UND softball. The team is solid, with a strong out-of-conference record, excellent facilities, and a very competitive league. The downside: the conference is tough, and it looks like they may miss the conference tournament — a 2–7 record against the bottom three teams doesn’t help. With an RPI of 210 and the conference ranked just outside the top ten (eleventh), they’ll need to keep building. It will be fun to see what the future holds.

As a MN tax payer how the hell can St. Cloud jr college afford that... board that thing up.

I think UND is working through the golf course setup plus apartments also. I believe the goal is to make the golf program self-sufficient.

It seems like this is a position of need right now and McNeal is going to be hard to replace. I am not sure how the season is going playout if you need to rebuild both ILB and Safety in the same season. Lot's of very big question marks in these two areas heading into the season.

Illinois, NDSU and SDSU PAC-12: Goes from 5 to 9 teams Leaving the Big XII: ASU, Iowa St, Oklahoma St, West Virginia Affiliates: Air Force, California Baptist*, Missouri, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, and Wyoming * Droping sport. Big XII: Goes from 14 to 9 teams. It looks like the two wrestling conferences got together and redistrubated programs.

Agreed, SDSU's reported operations budget for football jumped $2 or $3 m recently. I believe that $2 or $3 m is tied to capital expenses - paying off the bonds for the new stadium. Every school does it differently.
