And to think all fall I told myself hockey would make me forget about football. This seems like a bad dream.
-
Did we even offer him? I didn't see his name on the wiki list.
-
Unreal............Gators must be terrible if you lose to a team that has literally no passing game. How can any team be that one dimensional and still win?
-
It was a weekend of coulda/woulda/shoulda, but really the guys looked to have a lot of fire. Just move on and remember, it's not Christmas YET.
-
I was in a bar this afternoon that had on the NDSU/USD game and what is scarey is the announcers said NDSU doesn't recruit, they just pick who they want. Things may not be quite that simple for them, but if it's even close to being true, we are in for a long fight before we ever even approach their level. Hopefully it was just homer announcers, otherswise I think Mussman really dug a deep hole for us.

"offers" + "offered but committed elsewhere"+ "committed players" = 84. If they aren't actual offers, then why call them that on wiki??
-
We have made far more than 60 offers this year. According to wiki, we have 1 commit, 56 offers pending, and 27 offerees that have committed elsewhere for a total of *84*. Yes sir, 84 offers and 1 lonely commit. But then, I was reassured a couple weeks ago that there was no reason to panic. The extra good players don't make up their minds until the signing day. I think I'll choose to worry. I hope the next coach tagets players that we need and can get, rather than doing a wholesale offering of every kid out there.

I had felt that this is going to be a long term project and should be treated that way. The problem is, there are some that think this can be changed immediately. I'm feeling that 4-7 is probably as good as it will get next year, coupled with no blow outs.
-
I agree entirely. This recruiting class is going to be a bust overall, but it's too late to change it. Get in a good guy and make sure the recruiting is done right NEXT year. I'm not buying the argument that these kids don't decide until mid January where they are going. From what I've seen, the XDSU's have gotten commits from lots and lots of kids. We'll get enough guys to fill the scholly's, but I'm not expecting a lot really top notch talent, but rather the guys that didn't get offers anywhere else.

I thought this year was an average schedule in terms of toughness and having 7 games at home made it even better. Look at next years schedule, I'd say that one will be the real meat grinder. Not only do we have UM, MSU, EWU, and UNA, we've got an FBS team right off the bat, and we don't get to play either ISU or a Valpo. This is Big Sky football and we may as well get used to it.

So no one is recruiting for the next month?
-
Miller says that the rest of Muss's staff was relieved of duties too. So who's left to run things until the new guy shows up and rounds up a staff? http://www.grandfork...icle/id/278427/

I've heard that some schools now have it written into the coaches contract that if he leaves, he can't contact anyone he was recruiting at that school, unless the new school had prior contact with the recruit.
-
I said I was worried last week and everyone said relax, the best players wait til the last day to make up their mind. I'm still worried, just like you, but apparently no one else is. It seems like a lot of other schools have lots of commits, so I don't know what to think.

Meeting starts at 9, Muss is fired at 9:02, what's taking so long? I'd say if we don't hear something by mid afternoon he's staying.
-
You are right, and this once again proves the folly of not moving up when the XDSU's did. That is the only real difference, and UND football started it's slow decline to the bottom when we opted to stay the course with D2. That single mistake set this program back years and years and who knows if it will ever fully recover. The way NDSU is reeling in the big recruits they will continue to be THE dominant force for the forseeable future. SDSU has been out recruiting us for the last few years also. In this game, timing is everything.
-
So you're saying that the new guy will turn this this around immediately and it's OK to expect this? So, no playoffs next year for us, the "Fire ............" threads will start showing up in November. I really think we need to lower our expectations about a fast turn around. We didn't get her over night, and it won't be solved over night.
-
Gone altogether. I doubt that it ever works to demote someone and expect good results.
-
By noon tomorrow it should all be over, either Mussman is fired or UND football is sunk for next year. I just hope Faison doesn't rush out and just hire someone for the sake of getting a warm body in the position. If it takes until the second week of January so be it. This is going to be a long term project and we'll only get one shot at doing it right. And another thing, get rid of the coordinators too. It's time to start completely over with a blank sheet of paper. If we have a coach in 2 weeks, it means Faison promoted from within. We need someone who has HC D1 experience. Anything less will just be rolling the dice.
-
Is anyone else starting to panic about our total lack of commits so far? One guy and we probably got him only because he didn't have any other offers. We are 2 1/2 months away from signing day and a lot of our offerees are already committed to other schools, and the ones that aren't committed don't seem interested in coming here. I've just got a bad feeling on this upcoming class. Muss hasn't been a good recruiter in the past, and I think this year will be the worst.
-
LOL on that one. So we've improved .8 points per game. Figure that over 10 games, that's 8 points total. So, the D gave up one less TD is basically how it figures out. Some improvement, but OK. So, the problem lies with the O. Do you blame Mollberg, or do you blame Muss for playing Mollberg?
-
So they give up less points, but lose more games than last year. Yes, that's some impovement. I'd say you truly are Mussman's mistress or lapdog. No one else could possibly spin anything positive out this fiasco.
-
I'd Bartles will continue to look good, but the D gives up more than Ryan could counter. Davis wins 34-24. Right now, the only thing this team has going for it is Bartles and I hope he stays sharp.
-
So, who got our goal?
-
Well, it looks like my bone headed pick of OD didn't cost me. I'll go with Johnson for Sunday.
