I think it goes back a little farther. Somewhere along the line, a small number of parents started slacking at their job of teaching their kids responsibility. Those kids then grew up and are now grown adults having their own kids. Those parents are now the ones shunning their responsibility to their kids(today's youth). This includes letting their kids be influenced so heavily by those very things you mentioned. I hate to think where we are headed as a nation, no matter what party is in control. Just my opinion.

You have to beat the best anyways. I don't think seeding really matters unless you are trying to make the tourney. But as I said, as of now the PWR won't mean squat to us.
-
If we win the WCHA, the PWR won't mean anything. That said, playing like we are, we won't win anything.

I don't know how they calculate it but the Great West has 5 teams, 2 of which are playing a lot of competition from D2 and below which should inflate numbers. The MVC has quite a bit more teams so the bottom teams that suck are bound to bring down the league.

As if we needed another reason. The laundry list is growing quite long. Sorry to hear about this as I was looking forward to the season.

First home series of the year on Halloween night against Wisconsin. Yeah... I don't think we need to worry about people showing up. Its gonna be a wild weekend. As for students not showing up, I can understand it. They likely were doing homework or working on Sunday after a weekend full of having fun. I think if this game was on a Sat, you might have seen more show up. Of course the fact that it was an exhibition game didn't help. It just seems funny that it was most of the lower bowl who didn't show up. I always thought Sat night lower bowl didn't have as many diehards in it.

I think both teams schedules will look pretty similar for the next couple of years. I really don't see a big difference in them for next year. The only difference I see is that UND played SUU last year which now is in the Great West where as USD played somebody else from another conference. That prevented UND getting a home game like McNeese or SLU this year or the next. I won't be surprised to see some sweet away games in 2010 with some big return games in 2011 or vice versa.

Well apparently people who went to pick up singles yesterday got lower bowl for both nights because enough season holders didn't pick them up. So I would have to say it was a wise move on REA's part.
-
One of my friends forwarded the email that I believe either Sioux Crew or REA sent out to her. Otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.

I think originally they were going to have an online sale today and then make them available at the box offices tomorrow onwords. However, after realizing that some people don't have credit/debit cards and having all the gopher tickets sold online would mean none of these students could get them, they decided to have the sale at the box office today and tomorrow onwords. So I think they totally scrapped the online sale and they go on sale today at 12 at REA and tomorrow at the Union, REA, and the Fritz box offices.

I don't think they complain any more than any other fan base. The problem is that fans of both teams are trying to predict the game based on stats and both teams fan bases think the stats are slightly misleading. This leads to what can be seen as excuses.

Definitely must hit dowtown after the games. And I also agree about the red pepper as well. The diehard students will be waiting in line hours before the games but the others usually pregame at somebody's house. Your best bet is to find a bar with a shuttle like siouxforce said.

I am not so sure about this. The reason the NCAA resricted the logo only in the postseason is because it was proven that they did not have the authority to force a university to change it. Therefore, they decided to restrict schools from postseason play because that is directly under the NCAA's control where as the regular season is not directly controlled by the NCAA (think different restrictions on alcohol and advertisements during the playoffs compared to the reg season). Thats why schools playing FBS football wouldn't even be affected as the bowl system is not part of the NCAA playoff system. However, other sports at those schools would still be affected. So I am having a hard time thinking that the NCAA can somehow take away scholarships or do other things of that nature. I just don't think they have the legal right to do things like that but I am no expert.

I can see where you are coming from. The way I look at it is that I don't have a pony in that horse race so I might as well pick one to cheer for. The Gophers are only a rival in hockey so it is easy to cheer for them in other sports. NDSU is a rival in everything but hockey so I could see that being harder to do. But if you love hockey you probably will go for state pride instead of cheering for Minn.
-
Good post. It will be hard for a while because you are dissapointed that they gave in and got rid of a part of the program. But in the end, you cheer for the University itself, not the nickname. That being said, I will never buy anything with the new name unless it truly reflects the state's history. It will be UND or North Dakota from there on out.
-
I think he was talkign about the Bison fans when he said that. And I also have no problem cheering on the Gophs in football. Rather have them win the Big 10 (never gonna happen) than Michigan or OSU. But I still hate them in hockey.
-
Even with the settlement, I just can not see the NCAA forcing us to choose a new nickname. Dropping the Sioux name yes, forcing a new name upon us, ehh. That would be the ultimate sign of their ever reaching grab for power.
-
They didn't start it though. Gotta give them a pass on this one.

I agree with you. The more recognized a team is that you play, the more people interested. Because I am bored, I looked back at the football threads. The GVSU playoff thread last year had 503 replies but some were throughout the rest of the playoffs, the WWU shootout game last year had 418, the SUU game had 465, the GVSU playoff thread of 2006 had 570 but some were once again throughout the playoffs, UNO playoff game of 2006 had 724!, and the UNI game had 495. I think we can see a pattern. The playoff games, games against D1 competition, or very entertaining games seem to draw well. My question is what will the SIU game bring?
-
True. I think the question will be in the trenches but I have faith. I think this redshirt class wil make an impact. Not to mention the fact that we might pick up some gems this year.
-
I think so too. But I think we win by a more comfortable margin at home.
-
Not even the UNI game? The board was rocking that day. Heck, thats the first time I found it.

How about 12 like the Sioux-Yotes series this year? 12 is pushing it to make the trip down in the morning. At least last year it was mid afternoon so you could get leave at 6ish and still make it in time for pregaming. Not looking forward to the drive.
