I call BS! The media consistently drags UND athletes through the mud. They start drooling anytime they hear about a hockey player doing something as minor as littering! The thread on bisonville got locked down because the poster would not provide a source and he got his info from sources. If it isn't made official, how is the media supposed to report on it? I am pretty sure they reported on Chappell when he was found to be ineligible and I have no doubt they would have been falling all over themselves lining up to report on May. If anything, the media trys to make mountains out of molehills.

Chadron St. had 1 amazing player who provided all of their offense. I have no doubt that they would have played UND very tough last and there was a very good chance of them beating us. However, that was last year. Without Woodhead, they won't be anything special this year. I would expect Mary to play them tough because Mary is a decent team for a team that is a couple years into D2.

I thought I remembered reading that it was a 2 for 1 contingent on UND moving to D1. I don't know if it was just a verbal agreement or if it was in stone. If it was verbal, I doubt we will see them because with their conference schedule, they need games they know they can win.

I was using classification as a substitute for the word group since I haven't read the handbook (and why would I?). I use divisions so when I used classification, I really was talking about sub divisions. Sorry about the confusion.
-
No they aren't different. Division I-A (FBS) and Division I-AA (FCS) are different classifications. There is not just one divison 1 classification, no matter what teams people think of when they hear it.
-
You would still have 2 D1 teams playing in FB. One IAA team and one 1A team. I don't have a problem with people using IAA and the such but they should really call the FBS teams IA if they also use the term IAA. There is not a D1 and D1AA. There is a D1A and D1AA. If you really think that withholding the IAA part from NDSU and UND is a deceitful act, you probably are a little too deep in the conspiracy theories.

I just wanted to point out that I was talking down the road when we are in an established basketball conference. One that is known for decent bball teams and an auto-bid in the tourney. The Great West is a patchwork designed to hold us over until we get into a real conference. I can see your point with the number of teams in D2 but when Winona State is the champion, I don't know how impressive that title is. Exciting for the players, no doubt, but fan interest just isn't at the level that it should be for winning a title. But thats just my opinion.
-
That is true. There is no subdivisions in these sports. What people need to recognize is we will be playing for conference titles, not national titles. UND likely will never win a national title in any of these sports. However, I would argue that a conference title means more than a D2 national champ. You may not face teams from all over the country in your conference, but the quality of play likely is better. Just making the postseason in each of the sports should be the goal of all teams except football and hockey. In those we expect or will be expecting national titles.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Staying DII would have ended the program. You can take a look at the interest in the men's team for the last 5-8 years. I love watching NCAA bball. But I would rather stay home at watch Duke on TV than go to a home game against Valley City. A home game against UW-GB or Montana, teams I have actually seen before, is a different story. While we might have trouble getting up to the level of these teams, I have to believe that a bad team at the D1 level will outdraw even an good team at the DII level.
-
I would agree with that. I am tired of people worrying that others are thinking that UND and NDSU going to FCS means they compete with Oklahoma, Texas, and the like for a title. If people are really that stupid and believe that, they really aren't fans. Nobody is trying to make the move seem any bigger than what it really is.

The bottom line is that UND and NDSU will have 2 different transitions. NDSU started out by playing some decent teams. Ball State and CM were teams that they felt they could beat and make a name for themselves while also getting a paycheck. The Minnesota matchups were no brainers because they had regional appeal, a matchup vs. a Big Ten school, and in the case of the 2nd game, a winnable game. NDSU also had the advantage of moving first, gathering interest in their program

So is the problem that he may have got special favors or is it the fact that it is a confict of interest with his position as chair of the Senate Budget Committee at a time when Countrywide is getting helped out? I can see where the conflict of interest may be an issue but the simple fact that he may have got special favors is nothing to write about. Happens to all people with name recognition.

I tend to disagree with everything you just said.

The NDHSAA offers the bare minimum for sports. If we need to base our decisions on that backwoods organization, then we are in serious trouble. The NDHSAA deals with students from ND. While the state universities were created for in state students, that is no longer the case. Out of state students make up a huge chunk of enrollment. If they play a sport, why not offer it? NDSU could create a lacrosse team just as easy as UND could. In fact, they started their club team before the one at UND was started. Heavens forbid we try to give our students some perspective of the outside world. I guess we should just teach them about things that only happen in ND, as that is all the world consists of.

I guess I don't see anything that proves that FCS has lower competition than the NCC did. During the transition, you play a variety of non-scholly FCS teams, some lower D2 teams because the good ones usually don't want to play up, possibly a D3 or lower for the 1st year, and some decent FCS teams. You also can throw in some good FCS teams and a couple FBS teams. Of course the NCC teams are going to have more talent than the D2, non scholly, and D3 teams. Good NCC teams also should be at the same level as the decent FBS teams. It is no surprise to me that the record should go up because the schedule is easier. However, the transitition schedule is not as tough as a regular FCS schedule. I think the records to compare (if it so tickles you to do so) would be the first 5 years a team is in a FCS conference to the last 5 in the NCC.

Beaverson From what the story says, he was asked to play juniors for a third year and didn't want to. I don't have much knowledge of what went on behind the scenes though.

It's FERPA, not HIPPA. O wait, we established this 10 times already? My mistake.
-
My question is do you have to be "enlightened" (aka indoctrinated by the English, Anthropology, Religion, or Communication departments) to see the link between this recent anti-Semitic incident and the logo? If that is the case, I am glad to be
-
I would say it is a dead heat between all 3. The winner just depends on what mood I am in. In a way, the NDHSAA has shown signs of improvement, only to fall flat on their face when they come out with some stupid proposal. The other 2 have just shown no desire to improve at all.
-
The NDHSAA is the most worthless "organization" in the world. I would almost go as far to say do the opposite of what they want. Also college is a time for expanding your horizon. Keeping to the bread and butter offerings of the NDHSAA defeats this. Lacrosse is poised for an all out boom yet the states high schools might never add it because of the cost. I don't think that wouldn't be an issue at UND.
-
I will have to disagree with you about lacrosse. I think it will find a very nice market in ND. As for your other post, what happens when the FB or BB team becomes made up of 75% of out of state kids. Should they shut that down too? What is the magic number?
-
But yet you blindy replied to something that likely got retracted in the last 3 YEARS?! That makes a lot of sense.
-
Yeah that sounds like something the NCAA would do. What is good for one person isn't good for another.
-
I beg to differ. His was the best one I have seen, but maybe that is because I can relate to it more. As for the other part, he took it down because it would look to be in very bad taste to keep it up. If it was just Kup blowing off steam, it might have stayed up. But when both universities totally took it the wrong way (albeit because of the incident on campus), would you keep it up?

No offense taken and I hope you were not offended either. Just simply debating the opinion. I realize that text books are wrote by people who specialize in that are and it is checked by others. Errors do sneak in on occasion though. I guess I think you should be able to cite wikipedia if you researched the subject elsewhere and can verify the article is correct. Or you could always do what we did in speech class. Get the info from wikipedia, cite it as coming from some other actual book, and gamble that the prof is too busy to check up on it.
