  1. And after the gutting of the UND School of Journalism, most aren't from ND anymore, so good luck having any local knowledge.
  2. So essentially tickets sales reps just like pro teams have. If this company can tailor there efforts to a smaller market, it could be a success. I have definitely appreciated my Twins ticket reps. will be interested to see how this plays out.
  3. To what? Maybe the Big Ten would take them, but they haven't so far, and there is definitely some bad blood after the poaching of USC-UCLA. The NCHC is obviously a better geographic fit. I think it you can grab them you do, especially if Miami is departing. Would be interesting to see if Western would stay then. I think they would, as they seem serious about hockey. I think a decrease of the exit fee could be done, say down to $250,000, or take it down to zero with 2 years notice. I agree a flat out waiver would be a bad precedent, but keeping a team that is a drag on the conference doesn't make sense either. Even going down to 7 teams wouldn't be terrible. Would be like the Big 10, and would also allow a true round robin schedule while staying at 24 conference games. Would also prove the opportunity to revamp the conference tourney setup. What Wodon doesn't mention is the clear need for a broader realignment of probably all the Eastern conferences. Could an Eastern NCHC of the most committed program form? Could the Ivies split off? Several new programs in the offings. A lot of possible scenarios.
  4. I find it interesting that they said "all divisions except Division III" rather than "Divisions I and II", but I prefer simplicity.
  5. You can actually now play an exhibition game against an NCAA team. I'd be all for a UND Augie game in Rapid City as a poor man's exhibition destination game to help promote hockey in the Dakotas. If Minot of Bismarck had a large enough facility I'd suggest a game there would make sense as well. I do hope we get augie on the schedule soon, helping a new program that has ties to UND much like Lindenwood.
  6. All the home ends on contracts along with hosting the icebreak does skew it a little bit. 10 home non-con games is pretty rare. 19-16 is more common, with usually 1 exempt game (HOF) rather than 2 (Ice Breaker).
  7. The Prime Time trophy (oops, wrong sport)
  8. UND basketball could use a big toe.
  9. Probably. Circle of Life, baby.
  10. I wonder if a school could put escalators in a contract buyout tied to existing/committed players leaving to the same school as the coach within say 90 days. At least make it hurt a little.
  11. If the tweet is to be believed St. Thomas will suddenly be elevated as a current core Summit League member. At this point, they do not help the strength of the league, nor do they add any new recruiting ground. Part of the benefit of Miami and Western is exposure in new areas, both for recruiting and just the University. Those that always seem to want to add the likes of Mankato, St. Thomas or Bemidji don't seem to realize that. Being at 8 teams is an ideal number because it gives plenty of flexibility for non-conference scheduling, which is helpful in getting teams in the tourney. If this is purely a name change, then I'd agree that it's not necessarily a huge deal.
  12. Yeah it's not like its won more than half of the National Championships and been the clearly strongest conference in that time frame. Makes total sense to blow it up.
  13. I wonder who is driving this. I sure hope it's not a school that isn't even a full DI yet. Summit football with st thomas moving up makes more sense than ruining the NCHC. If st thomas does join, I'd expect ASU to join as well and Western and Miami to leave If the MAC schools leave I could see another reshuffling among CCHA, Atlantic Hockey, Lindenwood and Long Island into 3 leagues, with a possible resurrection of the WCHA name for the third league.
  14. To be fair from a UND perspective if Q scores it, it was going to be pretty be matter how it went in.
  15. Nope, it was real. https://www.vancouverislandfreedaily.com/sports/simon-fraser-university-ceases-its-football-program/
  16. If the tourney weren't one and done I could maybe see that. But too much h has to go right to even get these chances. It's like lightning in a bottle.
  17. That or Close, but no cigar.
  18. 1989 redux. Losing in OT makes it such much more painful. BEAUTIFUL.
  19. I hate to say it's only snow, but that will also mean more tornados in the southeast so I'll take white stuff as long as we don't get a quick warm up.
  20. That season ended up OK.
  21. But he/she should sure as hell be checking with the SID before a stunt like that.
  22. Save it. 2024 Frozen Four is at the X. Long memories.
  23. The NCAA may not care about the money coming in, but you can be sure the IRS does. It's income and Uncle Sam will get his share and rightfully so. Accountants and tax planners will be replacing tutors on athletic department payrolls.
