2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
tnt replied to AlphaMikeFoxtrot's topic in Men's Hockey
If he can get the players and especially the defense to play with the passion and love for UND that he did, I'm good with it. Maybe it would have been nice if he had coaching experience somewhere, but I think he has a good background of knowledge and maybe some connections through his dad, and I sure wouldn't mind someone with his personality and passion talking to a recruit's parents. I think Nick Oliver only had Junior assistant coach experience before St. Cloud hired him as an assistant, and that was with two full time positions, so I think you can see big time coaching potential before you have much experience. I'm sure Smaby would have been preferable, but some guys that have that experience aren't going to take a pay cut unless they might be the next man up if you know what I mean. -

...and could be they wanted a defensive player to have representation in the leadership group. -

Was hoping Hensler would have waited to commit so a nice defensive coach addition would have enticed him. Oh well, still a lot of guys that are desirable that will probably be around a little longer. -
...and let's not forget how this whole nickname fiasco got started with professors and such on our own campus that pushed their agenda. So we might have to kick ourselves out!

Since they are looking for someone to work with the defense, I would think Smaby and Simpson are probably good guesses. -

The one guy couldn’t pronounce Goehring, although maybe they get that by listening to Jim Rich. -

Blake, Gaber, James, Perron, Berg, McLaughlin etc., is hardly a dearth of top end talent. -
Carson Wentz taking Philly err Indy err DC by storm

Well, yeah, if you play a bad half you should be written off! So what do we do with 90% of your posts, write them off, or be thankful for the other 10%? -
Having too many players no longer reviewable after goals on ensuing play
tnt replied to cowboys5xsbs's topic in Men's Hockey
Yes, it was. That’s why I was confused about the reference when too many men was the main topic, but they also talked about offsides, but that still appears to be reviewable. -

But it sounds like offsides is still reviewable. -
I find it ironic that the NCAA and all of the member institutions that are supposedly so in tune with mental health and the wellness of the student athlete, have no problem making it that much more difficult for the student athlete with more travel and therefore more strain on a person's sleep and health, all in the name of the almighty buck. Of course hypocrisy and the NCAA go hand in hand. Where will this all end?

What game was that? -
Since we already have two commits that are forwards from the group that just became eligible to recruit, I'm hoping this doesn't mean we aren't in on some of the other big names like Mooney, Potter, or Morin.
-
I see Caleb Heil is also from Victoria, Minnesota. Wonder if they are friends.
-
Yes I believe that was Nate Prosser he destroyed.

I found it funny that a gopher fan would say that Cooley would be playing in front of way more fans at Minnesota than with the Coyotes. I guess it may be true now, because we know how they have fair weather fans. A few years ago, not so much. It was almost comical how sparse the crowds were just a short while ago.
-
Yet we still split with them last year. With Cooley probably gone, I really think our forward group is as good if not better, and it will all depend on how our back end comes together. Minnesota lost a lot of super talent up front and on defense, so they have some spots to fill as well.
-
We could use another legendary Mooney at UND!
-
I'm wondering about how many defensemen they are willing to commit to in the next year or so, as you always could use a bit of room for a late bloomer or elite talent. Will any of these guys be o.k. with getting pushed off a year or so? If they are super high end, I wouldn't think that would be the case, so maybe seeing how some develop wouldn't hurt. Maybe in the case of a legacy like Murphy, you could have some wiggle room because he would need to develop physically anyway. Would think ultimately many of these guys could commit, just don't know how fast that would happen with a few of them.

https://www.quanthockey.com/wjc-u20/en/teams/team-canada-players-2005-wjc-u20-stats.html We truly were witnessing an historic World Juniors in Grand Forks with Bergeron among the many superstars. Just look at Canada’s roster alone on top of Ovy and Malkin, among many others.

The NCAA will have to institute a new rule saying you can't hurdle an oncoming defender!! Would be kind of scary with skate blades that high in the air.
-
Would hope we all would judge people on the content of their character and nothing else. Oh, and they need to be a good hockey player too!

https://www.therinklive.com/mens-division-1/nchc/twenty-names-to-watch-when-college-hockeys-recruiting-season-opens Got 4 recruits from this list last year. Let's do the same with this year's list.

How crazy good does that defensive group look in the next several years with Wiebe, Livanavage, Zmolek, Emery, Strathmann and McInnis, and cross your fingers on Hensler.
-
Was Hensler going to accelerate? If so, is he still a possibility with Strathmann, Jubenvil, and Emery set to come in? What about McInnis, is he eligible for 2024 as well? With his injury, maybe he does what Strathmann did and get another year under his belt.
