Schmitt said he leans on giving the benefit of the doubt unless it is particularly egregious. In the end though, and here is the kicker, with all the input it is still up to Don Adam and Fenton on whether to suspend, which is why Moore was suspended and Savoie wasn’t even though Savoie’s elbow was up from the start. From the front on view you can see him obstruct him with his arm, but the other angle you don’t know if the guy is embellishing to draw a penalty. The ref looked like he was in a good position to view it, and a lot of times refs will just call the penalty when they see it produced a breakaway just to be safe rather than sorry. An embellishment doesn’t seem plausible in a scenario where a guy is going to have a breakaway. Mr. Bean certainly should be upset.
