Going forward, how do you get a traditional recruit if you are known to cut your entire roster if you aren't winning. Not easy to go into a potential recruits household and try and convince their parents that Grambling is the right fit for them.

If they have injuries it may be nice to have extra depth, but if they don't have injuries, you could see some players with little ice time take to the portal. -
If only he had committed to Duluth, St. Cloud, or Minnesota, we could see the gnashing of teeth for losing a Minnesota Mr. Hockey to them, and the consternation why we aren't winning battles with them.

Seems to me that Ottawa would be a much better team if they developed their talent better. It might be best for them to let UND hold on to the players and develop them for Ottawa. UND seems to bring in a new cast of players and develop them into an NCHC championship team, Ottawa brings in one high draft pick after another and doesn't seem to have progressed. Maybe let UND hold on to someone another year that won't be in your lineup consistently anyway. -

...and if our program isn't already attractive to high end portal talent, I would think if there are some openings for playing time next year, that would make it that much more attractive. -

Even if neither stays, you would think that someone else would need to as well if they intend to bring in Blake, McGlaughlin, Strinden and James. Haven't heard on anyone entering the portal yet, so as it stands we have 12 forwards without any of those four. Adding either Hain or Senden to the mix would seem like quite a lot of forwards. Obviously there are some other things happening that we don't know about, and their decisions will most likely start a chain of events. -
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/483377/adam-ingram Nothing in the stats before this year screamed can’t miss. Sometimes teams that need to take flyers on players before they prove it at the junior level hit on a player or two. St. Cloud offered early and it paid off. That doesn’t always work.

If they can be a difference maker for a Championship that may be the way to go. If you’re a blue blood program you probably can get another high end guy in the portal again the following year, but ideally you can find a two year player that can make an impact and only have to make that transition from their old program to our way of doing things once. Would Simon Kjellberg be a good fit for two years? Brady Ferner must have some input since they played together at RPI. -

That would be the easiest if you were only looking at one player, but to do that with everyone in the portal would be time consuming. Is there a trustworthy site that has all that information for everyone in the portal? -

Yeah, I was excited about Daschke since I thought he had 2 years, but with the possible turnover after next year would lead me to see if there is another option. -

Yeah, I just saw that. The portal tracker on GPL must be wrong. My mistake for taking anything on GPL as gospel without confirming it first. It seemed like I had heard his name forever. -

I think we sometimes under appreciate that skill, but it does have a huge bearing on winning and losing hockey games. It could mean another teams power play not getting on track, or your own power play as well. One has to wonder how much worse our power play and penalty kill would have been if we didn’t start out with possession many times because of Ford. -

I thought it would help to have Daschke as insurance, as I believe he has the option of 2 years. Although, when we win another National Championship in Tampa next year there may be an exodus, but I would be o.k. if we secured number nine. -

…doesn’t Omaha need a goalie? Imagine Berry was there to see how Nate Benoit is progressing. Looks like that goalie is 3rd in the league in stats and uncommitted, but unless he is willing to wait 3 years we probably wouldn’t be a player on him. Would like to see Hedquist go back to the USHL to see how much he progressed in the BCHL. -

4 goals tonight for Dylan James. Could be tough to send him back to juniors next year. -
So, I wonder if Zach Dubinsky is the brother of Aiden Dubinsky who is committed to Duluth. Wonder how soon before we see Duluth active in the portal, although probably more so on the back end. Wouldn’t mind getting Daschke and preventing Duluth from getting him as long as he fits the profile of the kind of guy they want. Looks like he ate up a lot of minutes.

That would be big. One only has to look at St. Cloud returning almost all their players and not living up to expectations as a warning that returning players doesn’t mean squat if you don’t work your tails off in the off-season and come together as a team. Hopefully Berry will be expressing that to his guys when they have their year end meetings with each individual. If you’re coming back, you better be all in like Sanderson was, even though it didn’t go the way he or the fans envisioned. -

If true, you certainly have to wonder why on a winning team. Does daddy think he isn’t being used correctly and not putting up enough points, or is upset there will be a bigger star there next year with Logan Cooley. Yes, I would be skeptical of his reasons if he is thinking about the transfer portal. -
Since you have said 1st rounders are definition of Blue Chip, that would be Ryan Johnson and Chaz Lucius, and I would suspect the latter due to Johnson most likely to sign after his Junior season.
-
Getting passed over twice in the NHL draft with his size may suggest some concerns. Would guess he gets drafted this year, but how his skills translate when everyone is faster and bigger could be the reason for hesitancy.
-
I'm guessing Duluth, St. Cloud, and Western will be pretty active in the portal this year.
-
Not going to say if such and such wins this year, that is the new trend and everyone else better look out. I have always thought Michigan could win it all, but if you have to play 4 games against veteran teams that sometimes are built for shutdown, anything can happen. The fact that Michigan was rewarded for ditching the game against Western basically gave them one less game to worry about in that regard. They could very well win it all, but I am not going to jump to the conclusion that is going to be the new norm on winning championships, because for one thing, had we not had the Covid year, I have a feeling three of those players could have been one and done. The fact they had such a poor college experience in that one year, caused them to want to come back for another kick at the can, and a more normal college experience.

If it is someone who hasn’t formally entered the portal then since Omaha is hemorrhaging players I wouldn’t mind Cameron Berg from West Fargo, who had a decent freshman year for them. It says White Bear Lake on Elite Prospects page, so not sure where he was from last. 4th round pick of the Islanders. -
Their defensive system helps, but Fanti was in a zone and saved their bacon down the stretch.
