  1. DeMarchi will see the NHL in the same capacity as me, a fan! Although I agree his game is likely more suited to the NHL than college, I don't think he has the requisite skill to play at that level. Then again, I personally didn't think Andy Sutton from Tech or even Brad Defauw, for instance, had the skill to play in the NHL and both made it, however, moreso due to their size. And considering the Devils have been touting Hale as Stevens potential replacement and possible future captain, I like his chances despite his recent illness.
  2. Yesterday the Blues resigned Panzer; the Predators made a qualifying offer to Curtis Murphy; and the Wild (Sekeras) and Devils each declined to make qualifying offers to regular d-men from last season perhaps opening the door for Roche and Hale respectively.
  3. The Predators traded d-man Delmore yesterday. He played 71 games for them last year and lead the league's d-men in power play goals with 14. I am guessing this is a sign either that they are willing to give Murphy a legitmate chance at a regular spot or that Suter is getting closer to signing!
  4. The majority of college age people do the same thing whether they live in Grand Forks, Madison, Twin Cities, Houghton, Colorado Springs, etc. They go to bars, drink and be merry. The only difference is the number of bars to choose from.
  5. Brandt's attitude has been an issue in the past. As a freshmen Blais threatened to boot him off the team if he didn't adjust his attitude. By the comments he made over last season though, it would appear that he improved his attitude and, hopefully, that will carry over.
  6. It is good that you can admit that the Badgers stank last year. As for leading the country in average attendance while putting a crappy team on the ice, my guess is the Badgers will have a shot again this year to prove that last year wasn't a fluke. Although the Badgers have a great incoming class and can do nothing but improve upon last year, I am not expecting much from them again this season. A lot of Badger fans have deluded themselves (at least from what I have read) into thinking that their freshmen will turn the program around THIS season. Suter is their only freshman that will have a significant impact, if he stays of course. As for the others, unless their last name is Parise or Vanek, history has shown that they, as freshmen, will not fare particularly well in the WCHA.
  7. I agree, MK. Nothing is written in stone. Based on his heart and determination alone, I wouldn't count Ziggy out! For me, I don't care who gets the nod as long as they keep the puck out of the net on a consistent basis.
  8. If the last paragraph of the article is accurate, it does not appear that Siembida is returning.
  9. Speaking of Porter, does anyone have any insight into whether he will come in next year or stay in Lincoln?
  10. I like your interpretation better. He is a fun player to watch, but I would rather see him in a Sabre sweater next year.
  11. At St. Cloud, in fact, and right after the new year. But, after what they did to the Sioux the last two years down there (taking three of four) who knows.
  12. Link Wow, St. Cloud is going to have a very long, difficult season. And for that I am quite pleased!!! Dahl cannot last much longer at this rate, can he? But, we know as long as he is there they are not a threat to win an NCAA game.
  13. As much as I would like to see Vanek go before the upcoming season, the Sabres GM didn't make it seem very likely with his post selection comments. As for Parise, I don't think it is a given, lockout or not, that he will leave after next season. New Jersey has a tendency to let their college draft picks remain in college for at least three years to mature and grow; recent years see Hale, P. Martin, Commodore, Gionta, etc. In my opinion, it was a win-win for Sioux fans and for Parise in that NJ won't rush him and Parise will be going to a very strong club (at least over the last 8-10 years).
  14. One of the commentators just said it is unconscionable that Parise has not been chosen yet!
  15. Several of the mock drafts I have seen have Parise going to Calgary with the 9th pick.
  16. It was a student from Minot showing off for a girl, I believe. Anyway, his body was able to withstand the considerable fall due in part to his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) being over a .20, which is quite high. However, if his BAC was closer to 0.0 the fall probably wouldn't have happened at all!
  17. This is categorically incorrect. Students did NOT sit directly behind the goalie in the old REA. Clayton hit it on the head. The two sections directly behind the net were reserved for season ticket holders.
  18. There is no question winning a national championship is the ultimate and Sioux fans can relate as UND has won it seven times. And although UND has never won back to back titles and I am not a Gopher fan, I would think that as special as winning two in a row may be, winning the one in 2002, after an 57 year absence and doing it in your hometown in front of your hometown fans would be the ultimate, but that is just me.
  19. Those are the same people that have no idea what it is like to win the WCHA championship and the NCAA championship in the same year.
  20. It looks and appears that MK has thought this through and isn't simply spouting propoganda. His posts make good sense. As for Sedevie, I would be upset too if I almost made it to UND, but ended up at Bemidji, but the bottom line is he is damaged goods, healed or not. And after the goaltender fiasco the two years at UND and the fact that UND should contend for a national title this year, neither Blais nor UND can afford damaged goods. LS should count his blessings that a D1 school was still interested in him after his last two serious injuries. As for Jordan, his USHL numbers were fine and there is absolutely no way Blais used him as the bait to get Zach to UND. If memory serves, not only was Jordan recruited by Mankato, but also an upper tier eastern school so apparently several coaches think he has what it takes to play high end college hockey.
  21. From today's INCH. A scout's take on Parise stock heading into the draft: 2002-03 Statistics: 39 GP, 26-35
  22. Here is a tidbit from today's Herald. This should put to rest any lingering rumors about SC one day playing college hockey. Junior hockey: Sidney Crosby, a Nova Scotia native who played hockey last season at Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.) High School, was chosen No. 1 overall in Saturday's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft by the Rimouski Oceanic and will not return to the prep school in Faribault next season. Crosby, 15, had 72 goals and 90 assists in 57 games as a sophomore at Shattuck.
  23. Sprig is right, Belfour did bring to the cup to GF for several hours one afternoon after the Stars won it in 1999. They had a big gathering for the public at the Hyslop .
  24. Although expected, it finally became official yesterday. The following is from today's Herald. ---------------------------------- Official word came Monday that the hockey arenas in Grand Forks and Thief River Falls named after the late Ralph Engelstad will get the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championship. The International Ice Hockey Federation announced it at its general congress in Marbella, Spain, on Monday, according to officials of the Engelstad Arena at UND. The 10-nation tournament begins in December 2004, and is expected to bring as many as 15,000 players, family and fans to Grand Forks. It was good, if expected, news for Engelstad Arena. The tournament had been promised months ago after a visit to Grand Forks and Thief River Falls by IIHF officials.
