  1. Outscoring opponents 16-3 in the third period thus far is a testament to that statement.
  2. They were a combined +9 last night with Parise's +4 leading the way. Vanek's line last night was a combined -7!!! That is a very telling stat. Two downsides for UND last night, they only won 27 of the 74 faceoffs and Porter was a -2, which is the worst plus/minus a UND player could've had since MN did score one PP goal. If Massen is not hurt, I would expect to see him in the lineup tonight. Any other guesses on possible lineup changes other than the goaltender position?
  3. Did anybody else see Greene absolutely smoke G. Potulny in front of the Sioux net? GP was fighting for position with Greene and MG had enough and tossed him to the ice. Grant is a tough kid so I was surprised to see how easily he went down. Then again, MG is rather large. I hope it is a sign that opponents won't be able to camp out around the Sioux net this season.
  4. Grant Potulny had some very harsh words for his teammates in today's Fargo Forum. He was quoted as saying: "We've got guys in that locker room who don't have any heart or they are not playing hard, because (1-4) is absolutely ridiculous." He went on to say, "I don't think we are that good. There is nothing that says we are that good. Either we're not that good or we don't have any heart. You can't win games either way."
  5. Well, after one game, I think it is safe to say that 16 people voted correctly. BM was very solid last night. Besides being highly skilled, teams are going to have a hard time containing BM's speed. I don't recall noticing any of the Gopher freshmen except their goalie who was not good. In fact, I don't recall noticing any of the Gophers.
  6. I didn't realize Blais was evasive, but I always knew Lucia was arrogant. In fact, at times he is so arrogant he is convinced HIS hair is cool!
  7. On occasion Lucia speaks in a reasonable and sensible manner, however, this is not one of those situations. It looks like his fellow book club members, Wooger, M'Zacco, Tom Reid, Reed Larson, Sonmor and Nanne rubbed off on him a little too much this week.
  8. Redwing, Here is another research project for you to work on while you feverishly search for information on Mapletoft! When you figure out the answers please put them in a poll so we can all participate!
  9. Ryan Bayda scored his first goal of the season - the GWG - while playing just under 16 minutes during Carolina's victory over the Rangers tonight.
  10. Gopher fans with their panties in a bunch? We've NEVER witnessed that before!
  11. John is quite a character. What is the story behind the Johnny Apollo moniker?
  12. Don't give up hope. He certainly has the skills to be a very good player in the WCHA and I hope he gets on track soon.
  13. Here we go again. Even if tongue-in-cheek it is an old joke that has lost its luster. Gopher fans would be better served focusing on their team's very poor performance thus far than the "powerhouses" other teams are playing. btw, Omaha, Princeton and Bemidji are not exactly powerhouses, but I am sure after MN puts up 10 on Princeton and Vanek gets six points like against Huntsville last year we will all again here about the greatness. Sorry for sounding bitter, but we have the greatest hockey rivalry in the country hitting GF this weekend and WPoS opts to remind us that UND just scored a lot of goals against a chump and uses the silly smilie. Who cares, UND won, Minnesota split, move on.
  14. Great job, PCM. Again, I appreciate the update and the time you put into "broadcasting" it for all of us. I found humor in the comments about Murray being grumpy and Schneider's progression during practice. I also enjoyed the comments about Fylling have All-American potential and Ziggy being a potential ace in the hole. How annoyed do you suppose Vanek will be everytime he looks up and sees Prpich smiling at him while he does his subtle little stick work. Let's just hope MP can shut down the almighty TV.
  15. I have never sat up there, but have a friend who is about 6'3" or taller and he was up there for the BC series and hated it. He said he had a real difficult time seeing anything. Even at his height, he couldn't see over people and because of the large crowd (which should be expected this weekend) he couldn't see around people. He was glad to be in the arena but left disappointed because he saw so little of the game.
  16. 8:19 PM EST, 11/03/2003 Jason Blake sprains right knee, knocked out of game against Ottawa UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- New York Islanders forward Jason Blake was knocked out of Monday night's game with a sprained right knee when he was checked into the boards in the first period Monday night. Blake was skating along the left-wing half boards when he was hit with a low hip check by Ottawa forward Daniel Alfredsson. Blake was on his back when attended to by Islanders trainers. He skated to the bench and sat there for a few minutes before being escorted to the dressing room. He is expected to be re-evaluated Tuesday morning. The left winger is tied for second on the Islanders with four goals and is fourth with eight points. Blake is coming off a stellar campaign last season when he had career highs of 25 goals and 30 assists.
  17. Bochenski had the GWG on Friday!
  18. Exactly. Which is why Blais put him back in tonight when UND was dominating. He gave JP a chance to face some rubber and make some stops and build some confidence leading into the huge weekend coming up. Once again, it appears like solid coaching. As for two goalies "sharing" the shutout, who cares, it is still a shutout and gives TWO goalies a boost.
  19. That goal clearly was knocked in by McMahon. At first he wasn't even credited with a point on the play, but at least they changed the scoring and gave him the second assist. On the post-game radio show Blais voiced his displeasure with having a forward be -2 for the night, especially considering UND scored 8 goals. A check of the boxscore shows that Massen was -2 and Palmo and Greene were also on the negative side.
  20. Florida recalled Lee Goren today.
  21. If they were, UND would've had their 8th last year. And we all know, at the end of last season, that wasn't close to being the case! However, as Sagard said, the games being played at this point in the season do have some significance.
  22. The driving force behind any comments I've made is selfishness. Anytime a player's indiscretions come to light, especially during the season, even if they are minor in nature, that player runs the risk of sanctions. One possibility is suspension. And as an ardent fan, one who wants to see UND do well and be victorious, I would much rather attend games and see the players on the ice and not sitting next to me in the stands due to an indiscretion.
  23. That remains to be seen. Paper means little, performance means everything. Hopefully, UND runs over them and maintains momentum heading into the final two weeks.
  24. By the looks of the boxscore, Tech played their 2nd string goalie and SC played their 3rd string goalie.
  25. And Wisco barely survives national powerhouse Quinnipiac in overtime. I bet Suter is already kicking himself for not signing with Nashville.
