  1. I thought they would have ridden the unveiling of the championship banner to victory. If that doesn't get a team fired up, what does? Although Vanek's goal was a gem, their lack of emotion as a team after their first goal even elicited coherent comments from Wooger. I am still convinced they are a shoo-in for a three-peat; really I am! Apparently, based on their start, they are too.
  2. You are correct. He played from 86-90 and is one of only five players in UND history to have more than 200 career points (202).
  3. The picture on Matt Greene's hockey card that they gave out before the Concordia game has MG laying a good hit on an opponent from Denver, I believe. If I remember correctly that same picture can also be found in the programs that have been sold this year, unfortunately, I don't access to a program so I cannot be sure, but it is worth checking.
  4. Blais said a few weeks ago that the lower the number the better for youngsters trying to make NHL teams. In addition to tearing up the AHL last week, perhaps going from #47 last year to #16 this year is a good sign for Bayda.
  5. What number was he wearing tonight?
  6. I have a feeling that where the hockey players go the girls will follow. (No offense to the females on this board) The owner of The Edge wants the hockey players there, underage or not, because the hockey players bring in the girls and all the girls bring in the other guys, which makes for a packed bar and a nice cashflow! That is bar ownership 101, isn't it?!
  7. I am with you, Dagies, and I hope DB sees it that way. Of note, the standard fine in GF County for Minor on Premises is actually higher than for Minor Consuming, which strikes me as odd!
  8. Just to reiterate, the police are not going out of their way to bust underage drinkers in GF. Obviously, they know it goes on, but they have bigger things to worry about most of the time. However, they are very concerned about the underage drinking in THE EDGE!!! Although it is not a huge deal, it is still is no laughing matter when one of college hockey's bright young stars is charged with a crime of any sort, especially during the season!
  9. I brought this up back in August with the hope that someone on this board with strong connections to the players would tell them that the police continue actively watching The Edge and as a forewarning that it was simply a matter of time before a player or two or more got busted there and again, with the hope, that the team would find a new hangout, one that is not under constant police scrutiny. I realize these players work hard in all aspects of their college lives and should be allowed to have some fun, but I just wish they would find a new hangout. The upside in all of this, and coming from the supervising officer on the scene Saturday night, is that the four players were not cited for minor consuming as there was no evidence of consumption on their part. The other upside, the police did not have the foresight to station an officer at the backdoor, if they had there might have been more citations issued to the other underage players that were able to get out that door before having their id's checked. The downside, with Brandt being suspended a game by Blais for a criminal indiscretion, I don't think DB will have any choice but to also suspend Parise and Smaby for a game. Thankfully, we have Yale up next and that gives ZP more time to heal.
  10. I don't know Siouxrock personally, but believe him to be a senior at GF Red River. He is also a fairly decent hockey player who should be one of the better players on the Roughrider team. Also, some folks I know that work at RR say he is actually a very good student and nice kid, believe it or not. That being said I don't miss his shenanigans and all the accompanying nonsense he brought to this board!
  11. It is not a tournament in the traditional sense, rather a showcase in Buffalo, NY. It is the same showcase UND played in last year. Considering UNH plays Canisius the first game, even if it was a tournament, I don't think they would have to be overly concerned about finishing last even though they will be shorthanded.
  12. Both Mike Schmitt and Randy Schmidt are both still reffing in the WCHA, I believe. RS did the UND/Duluth game. MS was actually at REA for the UND/BC series. However, I don't know if he was just in town watching good hockey or watching over Todd Anderson. Personally, I think MS does a pretty good job reffing. I think he, along with Campion, are two of the better refs in the league. I would much rather see either of those two on the ice than Adam, Sheppard or Todd Anderson.
  13. #21 for SSM is Ryan Duncan whose father played at UND from 68-71.
  14. Mory, The same tidbit regarding MG was posted in the "other news" thread Wednesday of this week.
  15. Instead of Flutie pictures, how about the picture of hobey-winner, Mike Mottau, down on one knee hanging his head in defeat after Lee Goren scored the empty net goal in 2000. That is a classic! As for Farkas, the only similarity he has to Jordan is they are both out of their respective sports.
  16. When they weren't talking about Flutie, they were typically talking about Jeff Farkas and all his "great" moves!
  17. And ZP!
  18. Herald article
  19. The season is very young, but trash talking has become a year around activity for a lot of people throughout the country. And although the Gopher fans on this board are fairly well-behaved, I am convinced that if the Gophs would have won the Maverick Stampede that at least one UofM fan would have posted something about the Gophs picking up where they left off or something of the like. Thankfully, we will never know.
  20. I apologize for creating confusion. I simply recapped what DB said. He didn't have a lot of time to talk, but was able to touch on many different items. After reviewing the boxscore it would appear though that he was talking about Greene and he did say too many men, but may have meant playing without a helmet. Bottom line and the point of what he was saying is he is not going to tolerate stupid penalties this season be it too many men or playing without a helmet.
  21. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought at first that he was talking about Greene, especially when he referred to the player as a Commodore type, but then DB started talking about Smaby and Stafford right away so it wasn't real clear. Evidently, he was referring to Greene's protocol violation and will be keeping MG on a shorter leash this year.
  22. Future Fighting Sioux perhaps? Both of their fathers played at UND! Ryan Duncan Taylor Chorney
  23. The following is a rough recap of DB's statements at today's Fargo Sioux Booster's. Anybody else who attended please feel free to correct any misstatements or add to what I posted. Also, please read PCM's disclaimer on the coaches show thread with regard to the following: (I hope you don't mind, Pat?) DB said that Parise badly wants to play this weekend, but DB probably won't let him. He also said this is a series that Parise doesn't want to miss, but DB probably won't give him a choice. He then cited the privacy act before saying anymore and asked Roger Thomas to get that straightened out, with a big smile of course. He sounded a bit exasperated that he cannot even discuss an injury with a player's parents. He said that any of the members BC's first line Eaves, Eaves, Voce are just as good as Parise. Talked about how UND really isn't a team yet because they still haven't found chemistry due to the early stage of the season and all the new, young players. He talked about the Concordia game and said it is hard for players to stay in and up during a game like that, but UND managed to do so and had the puck the whole game. He mentioned that the only downside to the whole game was a young defensemen, no names mentioned, who took a too many men penalty toward the end of the game. I couldn't find a box score that listed penalties, but I believe he was talking about Smaby. He described the player as young, Commodore type. DB said he could see the penalty coming and that type of penalty will not be tolerated this year. DB is going to sit down with the player and talk about it to ensure that it doesn't happen again, but if it does that player will be sitting. He then spoke very highly of both Smaby and Stafford. He seemed to marvel at their level of play when considering they are both seventeen. He said they both have legitimate shots at representing USA at the upcoming World Juniors and that Stafford should be a high draft pick next summer and that both have potential for fairly lucrative NHL contracts down the road. He talked about how all the young guys are adjusting to life at the college level and how a few thought that just because they were hockey players they could leave class whenever they felt like it. He was notified by teachers of the issue, apologized to the teachers, addressed it with his players and will not allow it to happen anymore. He said that some people are saying that UND may not have had a goaltending problem last year based on the numbers, but said when you give up four or five goals on 25 shots during a game that goaltending is a problem. He talked about how they may have found a goalie in Parise and said he played very well against Duluth and made some crucial saves. He mentioned the Ironman competition and said the team is in phenomenal shape this year. There was talk about how hard it is to run a sub-6:00 minute mile, but that all 35 participants in the competition ran between 5:10 and 5:35 miles! He said that includes the players that were later cut from the team. DB also said that in the gym each player bench pressed their actual weight a team average of 15 times!!! He also said that during the competition, 1,000 points is typically the high mark and is usually only achieved by 1 or 2 players each season, but that seventeen players hit that mark this year. He did reference Herb Brooks and talked about the type of person he was, his friendship and what his loss means to hockey. He said that HB would tell players that if you want to have fun, play in a great program and ready yourself for the NHL that UND was a good choice in hockey programs. Other than that, I cannot recall if anything else was said. DB spoke for between 10-15 minutes. It was a lighthearted talk with a lot of laughter from the audience. Because of time limitations questions were kept to a minimum.
  24. Do you notice how quiet this board is this week? Not much smack talking from our pals to the southeast. We can thank Maine, in part, for that. I couldn't care less where they are ranked, I am just glad they shutout the Gophers!
  25. Tim Hennesey was on station 790 about 2:30 today and said Parise has a strained MCL. He skated today and seemed a bit stiff. He won't find out until Thursday or Friday if he can play this weekend.
