  1. If I am not mistaken, #76 Panzer, #17 Ryan Johnson and #20 Eric Nickulas were the starting forwards for St. Louis. The linesmen is Thor Nelson who is from, and still resides in, Minot.
  2. This is absurd, in my opinion!
  3. Did anybody happen to catch Blais on the radio this morning being interviewed by TH and SS? I just happened to catch the part of the interview where Blais addressed the goaltending situation. He stated that Brandt currently is the #1 goaltender and that he is not planning on keeping four goaltenders on the final roster this year, therefore, one of the remaining four would likely be cut. He equated having four goaltenders to having 17 forwards and basically said that it isn't practical. Perhaps he was just blowing smoke, I couldn't really tell one way or another. Like I said, I didn't catch the entire interview and was hoping someone could elaborate or fill in any gaps.
  4. From today's Herald! Panzer to be in Blues' lineup Former UND player Jeff Panzer will be in the St. Louis Blues lineup when the Blues meet the Minnesota Wild at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Blues sent Panzer, a forward, to Worcester, Mass., of the American Hockey League after he played in his first NHL preseason game against Dallas last week. But Engelstad Arena officials said the team will recall Panzer for the game against the Wild. Other former UND players expected to play in the game are defensemen Travis Roche and Brad Bombardir of the Wild and forward Ryan Johnson and defenseman Murray Baron of the Blues. The Blues will practice at Engelstad Arena on Thursday and Friday. Details have not been set, but the practices will be open to the public.
  5. They played for thirty minutes. I spoke with Tyler after the scrimmage and he told me he banged up his ankle and may have a high ankle sprain. He expects to be slowed by the injury for about two weeks, but is anxious to get back on the ice and contribute in any way he can. Also, this Saturday UND will be wearing old style, tie up green jerseys with Sioux in white running diagonally down the front. The back will have their number, but not their name. They had a silent auction last night in the main lobby for the jerseys that will be worn by the Sioux during the game this Saturday. Minimum bid was a $100.00 and most of the jerseys went for that low price. Not many people bid because not many people knew about the auction. Parise's sold for the highest amount; about $350.00, I believe. There were about five or so jerseys that weren't bid on and they will be sold by auction in the suite area during Saturday's game.
  6. More of the same about Roche, but this from today's Pioneer Press: One other hopeful, defenseman Travis Roche, apparently has made the team. Roche, who played in Houston last season, is among the eight defensemen the Wild likely will carry this season. He apparently beat out Michalek for the final slot. "His overall game has gotten a lot better," Lemaire said of Roche, a member of the University of North Dakota's 2000 NCAA championship team. "He's shown enough to stay with us now. Hopefully, he can do some scoring." Roche, competing in his third Wild camp, has no points in four exhibition games. He did not play in the Wild's 3-2 victory Saturday at Edmonton because of a groin injury. "One thing I'm doing this time is not taking as many chances as I did in the other camps," Roche said. "I'm playing smarter. Maybe the chances to score will come."
  7. Actually, GF is more northernly than Duluth, so I am not sure what you are saying?!
  8. It is nice to see Andy Schneider get some national recognition even if it is from INCH!
  9. Article from today's Fargo Forum.
  10. I believe the doors open at 5:00 p.m. and hockey starts at 5:30!
  11. There was a Mike McAlpine who played a couple of seasons for the Gophers around 93/94, but I don't know if they are brothers. I used to think of McAlpine the same way opposing fans probably thought of Jason Blake - a player you hate, but would love to have on your team.
  12. The following is a link to an article in today's Pioneer Press regarding the retirement of Wild d-man, Chris McAlpine, and how that may impact Travis Roche as he tries to win a spot on the Wild roster. link
  13. The individual that wrote the article/made the list is from insidecollegehockey.com. As for R.J. Umberger it appears that he was removed from Ohio State's roster today even though he has yet to sign with the Canucks.
  14. Were you able to identify the individuals you saw?
  15. I agree that they could be related and I certainly have no problem with either you or WPoS, I simply didn't want it to turn into a situation where several Gopher fans got involved and the thread got out of control. As previously stated, let's move on.
  16. Before anymore Gopher fans blast a Sioux fan for his comments on a Sioux message board, what is the real story behind Weber's departure? There have certainly been conflicting reports. It is understood that a family member (brother?) had some form of cancer last year. Is the cancer in remission? If the reason he left is solely due to a family member's illness then the poster would likely agree that the comments were inappropriate. However, several quotes attributed to Donnie-boy Lucia made it clear that Weber lost his desire to play hockey and no longer had the dedication or requisite level of commitment needed to be successful at the D1 level. Perhaps the illness contributed to TW's outlook, but who's to say? My understanding is Weber basically took the summer "off" from hockey, rarely skated in Minneapolis with the rest of the rodents and returned to school many, many pounds overweight and sadly out-of-shape, ala Chris Fournier circa 2002. If that is the truth, then Gopher fans need to back off. Until those questions are answered I do not believe the poster should be deemed insensitive for his/her comments.
  17. With regard to Shattuck, what is the scouting report on Taylor Chorney, son of former UND All-American (1980-81) Marc Chorney?
  18. Apparently, there are some loopholes. According to The Forum some schools, NDSU included, have simply had their athletes sign waivers thereby allowing the release of injury information.
  19. Matt Greene suffered an ankle injury last summer playing softball right before the Oilers held their summer camp for prospects. Perhaps he is still suffering some lingering effects from that injury. As for not naming the injured, according to the radio broadcasters commentary during the Mesa State football game and a recent article in the GF Herald, UND has adopted a policy whereby they will not release information regarding specific players injuries. Perhaps another poster has more information and can elaborate.
  20. Since they are both from the relatively small town of Morden, Manitoba, one could likely assume that they are related, however, I haven't heard anything about the younger Genoway's hockey abilities.
  21. Ranfranz has now been added to the roster.
  22. 2003-2004 roster from Fightingsioux.com. Of note: Only three goalies on squad - Brandt, Parise and Ziegelmann. I don't see any mention of Foyt or Dahlen.
  23. I think your guesses as to lines to start the year are right on. I like McMahon/Hale/Prpich as a line and hope they can duplicate the effort of the Henderson/Calder/Jeff Ulmer line from 1997 that completely shut down the opponents top line as UND rolled to their sixth championship. As a kicker, they chipped in some offense and Henderson was the national tourney MVP. As for penalty killers this year, I would have to assume that Parise will see some time on the kill this year. With three shorthanded goals last year he showed that he belongs on the ice in those situations. Perhaps Murray will be paired with him.
