Peter Armbrust's stats during the 2000 season: 43 1 10 11 33 - that is 11 points on the year. He was the captain, the result - national championship number 7.

It was created by a former defensemen from Michigan State who was skating with the Thrashers. The two individuals that run it now both worked in the athletic department at Michigan State. It does seem to have a Minnesota slant at times, but don't most college hockey websites? As for Smaby, he was the 41st pick overall (second round - TB) in the most recent draft so I was also surprised not to see his name listed.

It had nothing to do with a stay of imposition/execution of sentence under M.S.

Comparing anybody to Karl is inherently unfair and since he has only been gone for two seasons I am not giving up hope that there is another Karl out there, but until found, there are clearly other people that can get the job done. If you check the stats you will see the JB had some of the best stats in league games last year. Blaming UND's swoon last year on JB is ridiculous; it is beyond dispute that UND's problems the second-half of last season extended far beyond goaltending.
-
Since Blais hasn't taken a stance, it is impossible to say what type of treatment JB is receiving, however, from a legal perspective, if he was receiving preferential treatment, the charges would have been dismissed outright, which isn't the case. In this matter, he still has to pay a fine, make restitution, take responsibility for his actions, and remain accountable by staying out of trouble. Based on the Herald article, JB admitted guilt and will be on the equivalent of informal, unsupervised probation for a year. If he has any further violations during that period, the conviction is entered on his record, if not, it is dismissed. In Minnesota it is called a continuance for dismissal and is typically only used in instances where the defendant has no prior criminal record and has engaged in what would be considered a "minor" crime, which appears to be the case with JB. Based on the above, I don't see anything preferential about it!

Tampa Bay's top 20 It will be interesting to see how Smaby performs for UND.

I am curious whether a date has been announced for Meet the Sioux? And does anyone know when dryland training will officially start?

I didn't smear anyone's reputation. In fact, when I realized that I had been mislead some two years after the fact, I printed a retraction simple as that. As for libel, that is ridiculous. More than half of what is discussed and "reported" on these boards is speculation, of a secondhand nature or is he said, she said. Since you seem to be in the mood to pontificate, I welcome you to step off your soapbox and take this conversation to PM or email. I don't think it is fair to the other posters to have continued exposure to this mundane, mindnumbing conversation.
-
Gee, PCM, thanks for the lesson. I feel like Sister Theresa just slapped me with a ruler for shooting a rubberband in Sunday school. BTW, it wasn't secondhand information. It came from the probation agent; an individual I trusted and worked with in my profession. Based on our relationship there was no reason not to trust the individual. That is why it is always good not to point fingers unless YOU know the facts! As for being sued for libel, from a legal perspective I couldn't care less. That is a waste of time unless you are going after a huge media conglomerate with very deep pockets.

In fairness to JB and as the risk of weakening my credibility on this board, I feel compelled to clear the record with regard to the domestic assault matter. I had an opportunity late last week to speak to a GF police sargeant who has a lot of knowledge of JB's criminal history and the criminal history of all hockey team members. He told me the GF police department had their hands full the last year and a-half to two years dealing with matters involving the UND hockey team, but that most of those matters remain unpublicized. They do continue to be very concerned about the incidents of underage drinking by the team at The Edge, of which they are well aware. He also told me that there was a GF County probation agent that made it public knowledge last year that he had supervised JB on probation for assault. That reality is, that is not the case. To the sargeant's knowledge, JB has never been convicted of assault nor has he submitted to probation for such offense, although he too had heard otherwise. The assault matter actually involved a different member of the hockey team, but I didn't dig any further. BTW, that agent is no longer employed by GF County. As to his purpose in misleading people, I cannot even begin to guess. Anyway, since I was the individual who aired this story, honestly believing it to be true based on the information I was privy to and based on my dealings over the years with the people "involved," I also wanted to be the individual who officially put it to bed. As for me, I will be busy for the next few minutes cleaning the egg off my face.

Link #1,5 and 16 are UND related!

Goon, I reported the information and you certainly are aware of my ties to the criminal justice system. Unfortunately, the information is factual, but certainly irrelevant as it relates to the theft charge. In fact, Brandt was on probation during a portion of his first season at UND. Keep in mind that over the years there have been several criminal charges faced by fighting sioux hockey players, but the tendency is to not publicize them. collegehockeyfan1 is correct in his assessment of domestic violence. In Minnesota to be convicted of misdemeanor assault, you don't even have to make contact with someone. Committing an act with intent to cause fear in another of bodily harm or attempting to inflict bodily harm both constitute assault in Minnesota. It is a very low threshold.

Come on, RW77, is $325.00 for 23 home games really worth complaining about. mksioux, thanks for setting the rest of the record straight. As for the organ, it not only works, it works well, plays many tunes and sounds fantastic. This is factual. Myself and several other posters from this board heard it a couple of weeks ago when we took a private tour of the REA. And why in the world would the Alerus "woo" the hockey team or conversely, why would the hockey team want to play in the Alerus? You say it is all about the money, for me, it is all about the hockey and I say we (UND hockey fans) have got it pretty good when it comes to the hockey!

The following line from the article couldn't sit well with gopher fans! disappointing former No. 1 draft pick Erik Rasmussen
-
Agreed. The article was fine, but to say that UND has not had a go to guy in net for some time is ridiculous, especially when considering that Karl was named one of the WCHA's top 50 players of 50 years! Those of us who had the pleasure of watching him play know the truth.
-
In theory this would seem to be correct, however, technically it is not. Whenever you are charged with a crime, even if the matter is dismissed by the prosecution or the presiding judge or you are acquitted at trial there is still a record of the charge despite the lack of conviction. The only way to seal that record is to successfully petition the Court for expungement, which is rarely granted. Admitting guilt and subsequently having the charge dismissed after successful completion of probation (the situation to which you refer) is very rare in Minnesota, but is similar to what happened to Bochenski. I see an abundance of forgery charges in my job, but have yet to see the State defer to the Feds, who have much bigger fish to fry. In another vein, despite the exploding prison population nationwide, suspended or stayed sentences are the norm in the criminal justice system. However, what the Courts' typically do is hold jail or prison sentences over a person's head to ensure compliance with probation. If they violate probation, the stay is lifted and the person serves time. When people satisfy conditions of their probation and are successfully discharged the jail time disappears. In JB's case, if he pleads guilty or is convicted he will likely get a stayed sentence, with jail time (up to 90 days, but more than likely 30) hanging over his head. If he pays full restitution along with the other party involved, pays a fine and satisfies other conditions of probation (remains law abiding, cooperates with his probation agent if one is assigned, abstains from alcohol, if required, etc.) he would then be discharged from probation and won't have to serve the jail time, but the conviction, absent a stay of adjudication, will stay on his record. BTW, what in the world is ultimate jurisdiction?!
-
He has been charged with a misdemeanor, which, under Minnesota Law, is the lowest severity level criminal charge a person can face. If he pleads guilty or is convicted at trial, the maximum penalty would not likely be imposed, depending on his prior record, of course. Rather, he will likely have to make restitution and pay a fine, but he probably won't have to do any jail time. Additionally, he may be ordered to perform community service, perhaps during which he can spend his time trying to erase the black mark that this allegation has put on the UND hockey program.

And one of us already is, D1A, that is, not that lowly D1AA nonsense! We even have SEVEN championships to prove it!!! Remember, this board is about hockey. How is your hockey program down in Fargo?

I believe goaltender Kellen Briggs from Sioux Falls of the USHL is going to Minnesota this season!

Phoenix resigned Landon Wilson yesterday to a one-year deal. That would seem to indicate that he is making a full recovery from the then potential career-ending eye injury he suffered last year.

Tyler did, in fact, play very well in Mankato on Friday night and held his own with Parise and Bochenski. On Saturday he netted a power play goal. Tyler is not the biggest, strongest or fastest player, but he is one of the best passers on the team and despite his lack of playing time, he maintains a positive and upbeat attitude.

The only person from Bismarck that I know of who has played in the NHL is the Peluso kid who played college hockey at Duluth. Rumor has it he is the only hockey player from Bismarck to play in the NHL. That other name is a mystery to me.
