  1. I would agree that the Gophers are playing quite well right now and they will have the added benefit of playing in their home arena on the big sheet of ice. But, although they won last night, they certainly didn't dominate after the first ten minutes of the game. They had 25 shots on net total for the game and 10 of those came in the first 10 minutes. That means for two and a-half periods they got 15 shots on net. Not exactly dominating, but apparently good enough to win. Also, if Waibel is a fourth liner, I wouldn't call him dominating regardless of his goal last night. Although he did score last night, he only has six goals for the year and other than his heroics against UND he has been a non-factor his entire career. Who knows, he probably got so excited last night that he broke another bone celebrating.
  2. Vanek is not even the best player on the Gophers. I think it is clear that the distinction belongs to Potulny. Without his return, they likely don't go on the run they are on and finish as high as they did in the power rankings.
  3. I say who cares to all of this. The award selections have been made, like them or not. It is time to move on to more important things, for instance, the regionals. Sioux fans, let's leave the moaning and groaning to the fans of other WCHA schools. We have a huge mountain to climb to get to Buffalo so let's throw our support behind our team and do our part to get them there.
  4. That sounds like a great game featuring great players. I was in undergrad at UND at the time and remember those players well. BTW, you are close on most of the spellings. Brad Bombardir, Dane Jackson and Paxton Schulte were three others on that team that went on to see time in the NHL, along with Russ Romaniuk, Justin Duberman and Jeff McLean and some of the other players you listed. The problem during that year was UND had a goaltending trio of Tony Couture, Cory Cadden and Chris Dickson!
  5. KGB, In 1987 UND won a national championship, had the hobey baker winner, had that same player set the season point record which stands to this day and had four All-Americans, 3 first team, one second team! Who cares, you say? It is in the past, you say? You are right, it is in the past, just like last year. Move on. As for your future being brighter, we would expect a Gopher fan to say nothing but; it is the same thing the Gopher fans said each of the 23 years between championships. As for the cookie, you've will certainly have your fill with the Final Five and the Regional in your backyard!!!
  6. Sioux fans, I am sure most of us are quite disappointed that Parise didn't win ROY, but can also say that Vanek should be congratulated and is a deserved winner. However, I am very doubtful that Gopher fans will ever concede that Parise is worthy of being a hobey finalist, which he is, and should be congratulated for the recognition. That is the difference between MOST of our fans and 99.99% of theirs. That being said would you rather be a finalist for the Heisman trophy or win the freshmen of the year award in Big Ten football? Hmmmm . . . . . BTW, anybody else wonder if bertibm is relative of Siouxrock?
  7. Not that it matters, but according to today's St. Paul's Pioneer Press Vanek did win by one vote. Congrats to him. And although I don't think Parise has a shot at winning the hobey this year, it is quite remarkable to see a 18-year old get national recognition by being named a hobey finalist. It is well deserved!
  8. I wouldn't be surprised. We got burned by that two years ago. Either way, I will be happy just to be in the arena cheering for the Sioux.
  9. Oh my goodness! Ignore, ignore, dammit, where is the ignore button!
  10. Drone, I was provided the same information as you through ticketmaster and also from a friend who has attended several games at various levels of hockey in the X.
  11. Don't forget the rock, the Siouxrock!!!
  12. Check out Bob Joyce's stats his three years at UND and compare his numbers the first two seasons to Bochenski's. Remarkably similar! Perhaps with both Parise and Murray on his line next year, Bochenski, like Joyce, will break the 50-goal mark. Wouldn't that be something? Bob Joyce: 1984-85 games, g, a, tp, 41 18 16 34 1985-86 38 31 28 59 1986-87 48 52 37 89 Brandon Bochenski: 2001-02 36 17 15 32 2002-03 41 34 26 60 On another note, Lundbohm is six points away from joining the century club for his career.
  13. During the '97 championship season when Blais was coach, Jeff Ulmer did not cut his hair once during the season and grew quite a mop. When interviewed after the big game he said he was almost as excited about getting a haircut as he was about winning the championship.
  14. It seems to me that Siouxrock's sole purpose on this board is to get under our collective skin, which he/she has done. It is clear to me that he/she is making deliberate attempts to misspell and use incorrect grammar and every time any of us acknowledges his/her posts I am certain Siouxrock kicks back, grins from ear to ear and feels like his/her goal has been accomplished. Perhaps if we ignore him/her, he/she will go away. I, for one, would like to see Jim Dahl install an ignore feature on this board similar to the one utilized by USCHO, if possible. That would certainly resolve the Siouxrock issue for many of us.
  15. I do not know if the ice was decent are not, but I am certain that the starting goaltending was horrible. Two very soft goals on five shots - come on, it is playoff time. I don't mean to criticize, but I just don't understand why Brandt isn't starting. He did finish second in the WCHA in GAA so he must be capable of getting the job done and I thought he played quite well in relief last night. I realize there is a MR bias on this board, but after being in Mankato and watching the Mavs score 5 goals on 21 shots, and then watching a shaky Friday performance at Wisco and then watching last night as Denver scored perhaps the weakest and softest goal (their first) we have seen at the REA this season, it seems time to give the starting role back to JB.
  16. I think I speak for most readers of this board when I say, I couldn't care less!!!
  17. I think the tailgating idea is great, but I find it very odd that the players will be signing autographs from 5-6:00 especially since they have to be on the ice by about 6:20 for warmups. This seems like an unnecessary distraction and will certainly get the players out of their usual routine(s). If the autograph session took place during the first part of the year or during the holiday tournament, I could see it, but before a big playoff game? That simply makes little sense!
  18. Wrong. As it stands now Minnesota is #5 in the power rankings, which means a #2 seed, not a #1. Nathan, whether Minnesota wins the Final Five or not may be irrelevant. If they are the top 4 in the power rankings at the time the selections are made, they will get a #1 seed, if they are 5 or below they won't. But, Minnesota stays home regardless of their seed. If they are a 2 seed, CC still goes to the closest regional, which would be the West in Minny. If Minnesota gets a 1 seed, CC will then go to Michigan. Read USCHO Bracketology for the explanation especially as it relates to UND and St. Cloud. Regardless, the season doesn't end anytime soon, at least we hope, so there is really no sense in getting ahead of ourselves.
  19. There is a lot of hockey to be played, however, if the season ended today and according to USCHO the brackets would likely be: West Regional: Colorado College vs. Mercyhurst Minnesota vs. St. Cloud Midwest Regional: New Hampshire vs. Ohio State Maine vs. Michigan East Regional: Cornell vs. Alabama-Huntsville Boston College vs. North Dakota Northeast Regional: Boston University vs. Harvard Ferris State vs. Minnesota State which seems a tad more likely than the INCH setup.
  20. I just returned from the monthly Fargo Sioux Booster's luncheon and because Blais was involved with the conference call, assistant coach Brad Berry spoke on behalf of the men's hockey team. BB confirmed that Hale was at Mayo, but said he heard from David this morning and "it sounds positive" and that it (the mystery illness) isn't "as serious as they thought." BB also stated that with the new information there is a chance that David could play again this season somewhere down the line. BB also touched on the topic of goaltending and said Ranfranz has been playing very well of late, Jake is very capable, and Josh is a good goalie, but has struggled with inconsistency, which we all know. He talked about how the team has "faltered" this February, but touched on the difficulty of the schedule and then emphasized that the team has been playing very well. He said he would tell anyone who asked if he felt they hadn't been playing well, but that has not been the case! He also talked about how Parise and Bochenski didn't get a chance to play "hockey" during their last visit to Denver because of the constant "mugging" by Mackenzie and Caudwell and then reminded everyone that although Denver finished 7th, they were picked to win the league, have solid goaltending and two really good forwards in Kevin Doell and Conner James. He then touched on the reffing in the league and said it has been very inconsistent, then caught himself before saying too much and said about the refs, "they're okay, you just never know what you are going to get." He said that other than Hale, the team is very healthy and, at this point, as go Parise and Bochenski, so go the rest of the team. On a related note, Roger Thomas addressed the crowd and said that ticket availability will NOT be a problem for this weekend's games. He assured the audience that anyone who makes the trip to GF this weekend will get tickets. RT also told the audience that the issue with the student seating has been resolved and decision about where the students will be moved to will be made public in the next couple of weeks. That is all I have. I noticed a few other members from this board in attendance and invite them to fill in anything I may have missed.
  21. Sorry for being harsh, but as a RR grad from years ago, I am begging you to take some pride in the Roughrider name by cleaning up your spelling and working on your grammar.
  22. Go to USCHO's homepage and click on the WCHA weekly column. They spell it out.
  23. I wonder how reliable this "word" is considering how Blais was defending Siembida, and all the goalies for that matter, on the coaches show?
