  1. But the decision couldn't have been made any earlier. Neither of those guys are currently employed by UND . Doesn't matter if they've been in the back yard, the job still had to be posted for however many days, and the apps have to go through the HR department.
  2. Either Belmont is not very good or the Summit League is awesome. Denver is beating the hell out of them right now.........................
  3. Bubba is like 4th on my list of preferences but for some reason I feel the need to defend him. Bubba took over a decent DII team that played in a crap DII conference. When he took over they moved to the best DII conference in the land. He took them to the playoffs and was named Coach of the Year in the nation's best DII conference. He laid the ground work for two DII national championships at UM-Duluth. He steered some of the best defenses that DII had ever seen while at UND (yes, even better than Lennon's). It is not like he has tanked at SIU. They've always been in the upper half if not top 3 of MVC defense there. He's just got a good resume IMO.
  4. Sicatoka, this is for YOU! There has never been "Lennon 1.0" Lennon is a branch of the Roger Thomas coaching tree. Bubba is a branch of the Roger Thomas coaching tree. Mussman never even raked the leaves under the Roger Thomas coaching tree. I'm a New England Patriots fan. I hear a lot about the Bill Belichek coaching tree. I'm big into coaching trees..............................(Nick Saban)
  5. Personally, I'm really just not adverse to Bubba. He doesn't make for an exciting interview (ala Mussman). But I think he has the credentials. He was successful in DII, he's been successful in DI. He has HC experience. Honestly, I think Bubba would command the respect/fear of his players. Something Mussman never did. I will never forget the year we hosted UM-Duluth in the playoffs when Bubba was HC of the Bulldogs. Back then, my seats were right behind the visiors bench. I've never seen a guy turn 3 shades of red so fast as I did Bubba that day, screaming and hollering at his guys. Just sayin' that the guy gets fired up when the game is going on. Not implying that a coach needs to be that way, just that I never really saw that from Mussman. Never really saw it from Lennon either. He was always more stoic like Hakstol is. I really think Bubba could do well here, provided that he can fill out a competent staff.
  6. Whoa, calm down dude. As I pointed out before, it took Tom Bunning 30 days to hire Brian Jones, it took Gene Taylor 24 days to hire Craig Bohl, and it took Roger Thomas 38 days to hire Dale Lennon. We are on day 29. I know it is frustrating in this day and age with the internet and twitter and etc. There are so many more information sources available than there were even 5 years ago. But the reality is, Faison is operating within the parameters that the state and the university have set for him. To date he's not taking any longer than his predecessors or colleagues in North Dakota did in similar situations. This is just how it works. If you are the AD in Washington, you can hire a coach in 3 days, but in North Dakota you can't. That's just the way it is. I'm sure Faison would have preferred more than any of us rubes on this site to have had a new coach in place several weeks ago. I'm pretty sure he has a lot more at stake with this hire than do any of us.................... And if current players want to leave, that is their choice. Maybe that is for the best. At best, any player who leaves now would only have been here for 4 years at the most. Hopefully, the next coach is going to be here a lot longer than that. And Taylor's passing mention of an "emergency hire" was a stretch. How in the world would in the eyes of the State, the University System, or the University itself consider the hiring of an athletic coach an "emergency"?
  7. I have no inside info, but my gut tells me that we will have a coach by Friday...........
  8. I've never been much of a DeBoer fan. Can't really put my finger on it as to why. If he's the guy, I'll get get behind him, but there a pile of other guys that applied that I like better.......
  9. Good luck to Coach Kotelnicki, I hope he lands it. I have always really liked Kotelnicki's coaching style. Was hoping he could be retained in some fashion here.
  10. Lennon had a slightly above .500 record in two years as HC at an NAIA school before taking over at North Dakota. Worked out rather well IMO. I think Bubba would be a solid hire. My biggest worry with him is the staff he would put together. Like UND-FB-FAN said, they need to pony up for the assistant salaries, regardless of who the HC is going to be.
  11. This is a very key game IMO. I was very confident coming into this season, but after getting embarrassingly shelled by a very pedestrian Cal Poly team on a neutral floor and a lackluster performance against a beatable Bowling Green team, I find it hard to be overly confident about any opponent at this point. North Dakota should be favored to win this one rather comfortably at the Sioux Center, but you just never know with this schizophrenic team. The Jacks aren't setting the world on fire, but they are coming off a very impressive win against a very good Belmont team. They are 3-7 with an RPI of 218.
  12. As Mike Leach would say, "when you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterback."
  13. In addition to better running backs, Dressler also played with much better QBs. Tough argument. Both were game changing players in the passing game and the kick return game. Hardin did put up amazing numbers against tougher competition with less help around him........
  14. Dale Lennon, Randy Hedberg, Jeff Tesch, and Steve Morton (assistant at Washington) got the interviews. RT was named A.D. on February 19, Lennon named coach March 30. Interestingly enough, Morton was associate head coach at Weber last season. He's been all over FBS: Washington, Washington St., USC, Iowa St., Stanford, Nevada, San Jose St. He probably would have gotten a look if he had applied this time.
  15. I made the remark because I was trying to draw a parallel between Bubba and Bollinger. People don't seem to want Bubba despite the fact that he has a solid resume mainly because he spent 15 years coaching at UND. Lots of people were initially lusting over Bollinger despite the fact that his coaching resume is rather underwhelming mainly because he grew up in Grand Forks and was a good player at a high collegiate level. I didn't make the comment in an effort to disparage Bollinger, rather I am just wondering why familiarity with UND is positive for one candidate and a negative for another. I'll step back and hope only those that "understand college football and coaching" continue the discussion, as I am apparently not qualified to have an opinion.
  16. I could say the the same thing for as to why Bollinger was ever on the radar. Only he was just a ball boy at UND rather than a coordinator. Personally Bubba isn't my favorite candidate, but his resume is solid IMO. But as far as I know, he hasn't been named coach yet, so I don't see the point in either building him up or tearing him down at this point.
  17. Bob Babich resigned on Feb 4, 2002. Craig Bohl was hired Feb 28, 2002. Rich Glas resigned April 25, 2006 and Brian Jones was hired May 25, 2006. That is the most recent high profile coaching hires in the state that went national that I can think of. 24 days and 30 days.
  18. Just wait until it affects the hiring of a hockey coach someday. Then it will really hit the fan.
  19. I see that there is 4 1/2 hours of boxing reruns on CBSSN tonight. Excellent.........................
  20. Apparently everyone agrees. Damn I'm good!
  21. Well, who wants to take a stab at "The Nine". Pflugrad, Okruch, DeWitt, Bubba, Marshall, Andrus, Bath, Cummings, Ross....................
  22. Nevermind, Drake already named one of their assistants as the new head coach.
