University of North Dakota Hockey 2014-15 season
I Ranger replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I think you may see a line of Pattyn-Gaarder-St Clair as a shutdown grinder type line. I think a big key is we need to find someone to play with Rocco. Obviously, Pattyn will be moving back to his more comfortable grinder shutdown type role. Reuniting Caggulia with Rocco might be best and keeping Johnson with them could be good. I just think Rocco was put in a tough spot this year being moved to center and really having to carry a line on his shoulders. Luke will be a good college player but he wasn't a top two line guy this year and really didn't have the feet quite yet to play with Rocco but we had to make due with the options we had. -
SIOUX vs. GOPHERS - Thursday, F4 Philly style Gameday
I Ranger replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Game day! No softies by Zane and get one early on Wilcox. Put bodies in front of him and make his life miserable. GO SIOUX! -
Actually third line. Kristo-Nelson-Davidson were the third line with Mario-Rowney-Rodwell the fourth.
-
I agree for the most part other than Rodwell was a regular in the lineup that year as a freshman playing with Mario and Rowney on the fourth line once the team was fully healthy.
-
Without seeing that tape I would say stop 13-24-12 and you have a good shot.
-
Yep and I can't get it to work either.
-
My opinion is we never chose a new nickname and stick with North Dakota. Eventually I may get myself to pay ridiculous prices at the Siouxshop for something that doesn't have the fighting sioux logo on it. I'm guessing that won't happpen but as an alum that is my vote.

I was thinking the same thing. He is a Penguins draft pick so it will be interesting to see if they can entice him to sign or not. I would think they would make a good effort to do so.

The Bemidji tie is the one I'm most curious about. Would anyone have an idea of what a win instead of a tie would have done for our pairwise currently?
-
From my recollection of being at this game, there were 18,000 Gopher fans there for the first 35 minutes of the game and 18,000 Sioux fans there for the last 25.
-
Yes they were and took Denver to OT to help wear them down for us the following day.
-
I agree tenfold on this. #6 looked like a freshman this weekend. He has been maybe our best, most consistent d-man most of the year but this weekend he just didn't have it. He was a couple seconds late on his decision making which cost us the 2 goals you mentioned above. Hesitation kills and he was hesitant way too much this weekend. Let's hope the real #6 shows up in Minneapolis.
-
I believe he has already said he has played his last game at WBL. He would be a great pickup though. One of, if not, the best forward in the state this season.
-
I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be St Cloud-Miami.
-
Regionals are played either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. There are no games ever on Thursday.
-
I watched the game last night as well and agree with you on Tweeten. Given this was the only time I've seen him since last year's televised games, he looks like he needs to gain a few steps in his skating to play at the next level. He has nice size and is still young so he certainly has time to develop.
-
Looks like things are lining up pretty nicely down in St Paul for EGF. I would like to see an all north final between Hermantown and EGF. Would be a great game and finally a non private class A winner.

Peterson looked good but was keyed on by Duluth East and they really took him out of the game. He scored a nice goal early but didn't create much after that. I thought Duluth East's Phil Beaulieu was the best player on the ice. He and his D-partner Alex Trapp played a lot and when they were on the ice controlled the game.
-
I went to the Duluth East-Grand Rapids game in Duluth this past weekend and was totally unimpressed with Jonah Bischoff. He played on Avery Peterson's line and if I hadn't known about him before hand and looked up which number he was I wouldn't have had a guess as to which one he was. Mitch Mattson seemed like a better player but wasn't the greatest in that game either but certainly has size just needs to get a lot stronger which is the case for most sophomores.
-
Don't forget Canada didn't look all that great in Vancouver either until the games really mattered and they started to play some good teams. But with that said, Go USA!
-
I agree I don't see anyone leaving early and only losing Mitch and Rodwell at forward. Maybe we only bring in those 3 at forward and Poolman on D. I think there may be room to bring in another forward though as I think there should be scholarship money available at forward.
-
Olson will be here next year as he will be too old to play another year of juniors. It will be interesting to see who they bring in other than Olson, Simonson and Schmaltz at forward.

When do the the NHLers leave for Sochi
I Ranger replied to GO_FIGHTING_SIOUX_GO's topic in Men's Hockey
Last scheduled games are Saturday and they will head to Sochi Sunday. -
I have to comment on the bolded statement above and totally disagree with you as I can't think of another Sioux team that had as much defensive depth and completeness as that one. They were 8 D deep with Genoway-MacWilliam, Blood-Forbort, Marto-LaPoint, and Simpson-Gleason and the mix between big defensive D-men and strong skating offensive D-men was there. In my opinion, I would take the 11 team over the 04 team due to depth throughout the lineup. The 11 team was 4+ forward lines and 8 D deep. That team was made to win it all and it still stings me that they couldn't find a way to score on that little Michigan goalie.

I agree there should have been a call on the DU player as well if not the only call but like Schlossman said, the reffing wasn't' a strong point of the game saturday.
