Basically, I agree. Every off season, every spring ball and every fall pre-season is the time, to move up the depth chart and no one’s job is every guaranteed. However, players can’t play being afraid a mistake on one play will cost them their job. All players make mistakes and those who are afraid to make a mistake are not going to be as effective. If they making mistakes and can’t learn, then “next guy up”.
-
I’m not sure I would agree. If that were true, how did Romfo bypass Feeney or for that matter, Feeney and Kaminski? How did we have 2 guys competing for the starting center position? How many tight ends were in the mix this year? How did a true freshman move up to a backup on the oline? I don’t believe guys were guaranteed their positions. Coaches want to win and play the players they think will give them the best chance of winning. UND’s struggles were more related to talent level and possibly schemes etc. than inability of players to progress up the depth chart.

Many were advertised that way. Our Champions Club donations aren’t even tax deductible.
-
You are correct.

I agree but Ohio State arguably played their best FB of the year in the 1st half. Oregon would have had to play their best to stay in the game. They didn’t. It happens at all levels sometimes. They still had a great year.
-
Obviously they did. It was disappointing not to win it all but they achieved all of their other goals. They got beat by another very good team.

I believe he was expected to go to WSU but not sure about the OC/Co OC role. Not sure if other Co OC is going to WSU.

Seattle Times says Danny Freund has been hired as WSU OC

Yes

One way to initiate discussion is to have his former RR teammates try to convince him to switch. I don’t believe other schools are allowed to recruit players once signed to a school but there are ways to communicate indirectly. The kid lives in GF so it wouldn’t be difficult for him to know of UND’s interest.

He was hurt this year

It does, doesn’t it.

Road on the plane today from San Diego and chatted with a former player (and his family) who transferred to FBS school. Main issue was UND didn’t utilize TE’s in passing game. Hopefully Schmidt and Freuchte and smart enough to know how important that is.
-
He did well at UND. I read that he wanted an Ag program but I would bet he entered the portal looking for a Kielty type opportunity and this was what was he got. I think many of us thought we would struggle this year and with the extension, there didn’t seem like we were headed in the right direction. I would be surprised if he would consider returning. He would likely have FBS opportunities. However, if we are going to start paying coaches $750,000 to move on when teams fail, I will take a proven starter every time. I would rather welcome a guy back who wants to win than fall on my sword over his move to try to better his opportunities. I don’t think he will return though.

We need to get better. Most fans want conference championships, play off success and national championships. He’s a good kid and if he is good enough to start and move us forward faster we take him. College FB is now a cut throat business.
-
I would hope we reach out to both of them.

I had a “probalem” deciphering some of this. When did they start serving double eggnogs at Judy’s? Stay the course and Merry Christmas.

The kid appears to be a very athletic QB with starting experience at SDSU. The day of the “pocket” qb is fading (there are certainly exceptions) but the dual threat guys force defenses to alter their game plan. I would be happy with another guy like Quincy on the roster just not at QB.
-
I never said there isn’t a spot for the guy on the roster. I disagreed that we would be “salivating” over this guy if he would come here. There isn’t anything impressive about his performance so far. Didn’t throw a pass at USC.Its obvious he wasn’t in their plans. He left at BYU without playing, was an ok JC QB and is a couple years older than most juniors. That doesn’t mean he couldn’t be a “hidden gem”. I stated that without reviewing film, there was nothing else to go by and I’m not pretending to evaluate this guy beyond a Quick Look at what’s easily available. Other than the fact that he was on the roster at USC, what would get us excited about him?
-
I assume you and a couple other experts have far more experience than I with regards to recruiting college players and how evaluations and recruiting have evolved over the years. I responded to a post regarding a qb in the portal from USC that another was very impressed with and wished we could get a guy like that. When I went on the USC site, the guy hadn’t played there. He had been at a couple of schools before USC including a JC. I could not see anything that would warrant USC interest. I checked his record (stats) and it appeared he had been ok at the JC level. I pointed out we had a couple of guys whose HS careers appeared to have been more impressive based on their stats. I didn't, and still don't, see anything that would get us excited about him even though he was on the team at USC. I also admitted that he could be a hidden gem. I didn’t comment on USC’s ability to recruit QB’s but I would bet a lot that he wasn’t put on the team with the idea he would be in the mix for playing time. I wasn’t joking, I made an observation. The USC connection was impressive until I found nothing going back including his HS years that would indicate he would be an impact player for us much less USC. Without film or a conversation with USC staff, that’s kind of an initial evaluation So those who think he could be a difference maker (maybe he could), tell me where I’m wrong.

I’m sure glad you brought that up.
-
Nick Saban made a statement on GameDay today regarding the Ohio State fans calling for Day’s head, that seems appropriate for this thread.
-
Sure you can. Just like I can throw in the “bigger picture” learned from the stands, the TV and a fantasy FB league crowd so you don’t feel left out.
-
What the hell is the “hasn’t done anything yet in college crowed”? My response was to a post “We would be salivating “ if we got a transfer like this. This guys has bounced around to different schools and was on USC’s team. I don’t know if he was “recruited” to USC nor whether or not he was on scholarship. It’s clear he wasn’t in their plans. Show me game film and I might change my mind. I said he might be a “hidden gem”. I’m not part a crowd nor do I think everyone FBS “drop down” can play at the FCS level.
-
Not sure I would get too excited. He may be a hidden gem but hasn’t done anything special at the college level. His HS stats weren’t as good as either Kaminski or Feeney.
