  1. You are correct. Unless we want to keep bitching about not hiring a different coach 10 yrs ago then it’s ok to kick that dead horse forever (and forever evermore). That would be ok.
  2. As you are quickly learning first hand. Have fun.
  3. I think one other reason is guys who want more playing time or an O or D scheme that may offer more opportunities for someone with their skill set. (TE who wants to be part of a passing game or a WR who feels they can stretch the field or get open on crossing routes).
  4. Yeah but he can interpret the message sent. It’s easy to see when someone is mad, disappointed, excited etc but it’s a stretch to think we can tell what they are thinking.
  5. You actually believe that you and others in the stands can interpret a FB player’s body language? In addition you can tell that a guy (one of our best if not the best player) announcing he is returning to UND does it by taking a shot at his departing teammate.
  6. And what number are you hearing?
  7. It’s not quite that simple. Most businesses aren’t subsidized by tax payer dollars in the same way as college athletics. Most business employees don’t get free housing, health care, training, board and travel expenses subsidized by taxpayers. Depending on the school, the amount subsidized, differs significantly as do the schools sports revenues In addition, no business will survive long for paying an entry level employee 6 or 7 figures while not paying others a fraction of that or not at all. Businesses have clients and customers who have a recognizable return on their investment more valuable than bragging rights based on the accomplishments of others or incorporating a part of our identity based on an athletic team. Most college athletic teams provide an opportunity for athletes to compete in their sports while getting an education. It is an important source of entertainment for students, alumni and the communities where they exist. It is a vehicle for schools to maintain and foster relationships with alumni which can lead to donations to the university often for academic scholarships or non-athletic endeavors. It is a great tool to market the university. Previous research showed success of athletic teams is a positive factor for enrollment. Your thinly veiled shots over time at “older people” shows a lack of understanding of life’s experiences. Those with experience frequently can bring a different perspective for consideration that often can save a business a lot of money and prevent mistakes. There needs to be a healthy balance with decision makers so businesses and organizations don’t become stagnant because those with experience are uncomfortable with change or haven’t stayed current with demographics of their targeted clients/customers, technology, economic changes etc. It would be a mistake to assume older men and women are not keeping current with those changes as the business evolves. Those business concepts are just as important for colleges and universities. I don’t have issues with athletes earning whatever they can garner from NIL. I have an issue with the NCAA turning a blind eye to the schools/supporters setting up funds specifically for recruiting and dispersement of these funds orchestrated by the school. If schools operate under the rules and guidelines of the NCAA they need to enforce and abide by the rules. Otherwise stop the BS and let the schools collect and disperse the money without scholarship or other financial limits. New scholarships can be whatever wants to dish out. The kids should have to seek their NIL endorsements and arrange their own contracts. That would be closer to how most businesses run. If they are going to make a living playing sports they need to learn how to do this.
  8. I think this is a better option for you. Although I stated that I wouldn’t spend $500,000-$1million to buy out a contract with only 1 year left, I give you credit for being willing to put your name with your opinion.
  9. Good one. I wonder if the guy who played college BB ( not sure if it was intramural BB or maybe even Duke) has info. Either way, he may have an insider perspective on how his school is dealing with their BB recruits regarding NIL.
  10. It is an Alston Award type fund. The last time I reviewed, schools could award almost $6000 per year above the scholarship/expense money. It is awarded to athletes based on criteria including academic performance community service etc. It is my understanding that schools aren’t to be involved with NIL funding. I haven’t bothered to review for recent changes.
  11. I believe 2 QB’s, 3RB’s, at least one TE if not more, at least one OL, and maybe more depending on the schools needs. Not necessarily Power 5 but we have guys who could play up. Not sure about Fr and RFr we haven’t seen yet. It wouldn’t surprise me to see any of the guys who are leaving end up with an FBS school, FCS school or even D2. Not likely for all but we may be surprised.
  12. It will be interesting to learn how Penn State deals with this. I have no issue if a business/enterprise wants to contract with athletes for gear/clothing/swag with the athletes NIL. Once they include the university’s name/logos/unis etc the University needs to be part of the contract. Other discussion points would be a choice between the scholarship plus allowed expenses plus Alston money vs NIL dollars. Choose one or the other. If they choose NIL they can play and pay for the education. There are a number of Power 5 schools that may struggle to come up with the extra millions now needed for recruiting and retention. It’s fair the athletes are recognized for their value to college athletics but we fail them if all college for them becomes their sport. The lack of leadership from the NCAA has reared its ugly head.
  13. UND has already started the 701 initiative with an initial goal of raising $1,000,000 which would be used for “Alston Awards”. Student athletes including those on partial scholarships can receive up to $24,000 over 4 years. Chaves and the Alumni staff/Athletic staff started work on this over 6 mos ago. I disagree with those who state we are doing nothing. Having said that, I have not heard of anyone who has started an NIL fund for UND athletes. I’m not going to give big money for UND student athletes beyond scholarships for an education and the additional expense money or even Alston Awards. The NCAA has created a new mess with how they deal with NIL and the portal. The courts have ruled that athletes can be compensated. I believe the NCAA had stated the schools can’t administer NIL funds (not sure where it stands anymore because they have turned a blind eye). I also understood schools couldn’t use NIL funds for recruiting. Let the athletes find their own organizations/companies for NIL dollars. Violations of recruiting should be dealt with severely to include loss of eligibility for the athlete and loss of scholarships and post season eligibility for the schools.
  14. Yup. They are capable and we need to play our best hockey. We need the sweep going into the break.
  15. Good post. I don’t think you can emphasize too much the importance of playing our best hockey this weekend against a capable team. We need a sweep to go into the break on a positive note and remain toward the top in both the league and pairwise. Leave no doubt in either the minds of our players nor our opponents that this is a team on a mission to win it all.
  16. That’s a reflection of coaching and team leadership.
  17. How do we know we haven’t?
  18. No, yesterday’s game is finished. Our players need to put yesterday behind them and build off of this effort and continue to get better. One of the keys to a great season is building confidence and maintaining focus and momentum to maintain the level of play we saw in the last half of last night’s game week after week and game after game. Hopefully our goalie has a great game. Our guys sniped some nasty shots at their dude. I hope he had nightmares.
  19. You don’t bench a player for a mistake. You bench someone for attitude problems, disciplinary issues, disruptive behavior, unsportsmanlike issues etc but your players can’t be afraid of making mistakes when they are playing hard. You don’t want you players playing tentatively.
  20. You guys are providing comic relief for your NDSU pals who monitor this fan forum. Gives them something to do before their game tomorrow.
  21. And players playing. Good group to build with. They seem to like each other. If they stay together they could be special.
  22. I would like to see them utilize Romfo’s athletic skills in different packages. I don’t see him moving ahead of either Feeney or Kaminski. I wouldn’t sell him short as a backup QB however. He has done some good things in practice and has a good arm, good quickness and decent speed.
  23. One might say that NDSU with 9 , Ill St with 6 and Mi St with 4 selections may have underperformed. SDSU is no surprise and I believe evidence that your opinion on finishing at or toward the top of the league is an advantage. UND, YSU and UNI at tied for 3rd with 5 each. I still think if a guy played up to AA or first team AConf ability he would be at least 2nd team regardless of where we finished.Ill St and Mi St got guys 10 guys on 1st or 2nd team and finished tied for 7th and 9th respectively.
  24. I still work with closely with athletes on a regular basis. I have a pretty good understanding of how kids have changed. You and the rest of “the squad” seem to be able to criticize others on a regular basis, but struggle responding when I or others disagree or criticize posts from Squad posters. How soft can you guys be? Sticking up for a UND athlete as he ends his career isn’t crying. Nothing on a fan forum gets me excited. I just feel the name calling and the meme posted were cheap shots at a guy ending his UND career.
