  1. I think Teeder has a nice scouting summary. This is a tough game for us. They have a number of transfers including the RB from SMU. We have to play well to win.
  2. Yeah. If anyone thinks a missed XP from a guy who didn’t miss last year is cause for panic then I would strongly disagree. I also happen to believe you need to make XP’s and shorter FG’s regardless of the where the laces are. The snap and hold are are an issue cuz it can throw off your timing. Having said that, if he keeps having trouble with routine FG’s we are in trouble. Stevens has the leg to kick it into and out of the end zone but has been inconsistent. College FB teams need to be able to cover a KO. You can’t cut block on a kickoff and it’s tough to hold a block very long in the open field when the opposition gets a 10-20yd running start. It is best to have a kicker who can kick it through the end zone every kick but if you can’t do that you better have really good KO coverage So yeah, I’m serious in saying that one game is too soon to quit on these guys and when a teammate struggles his teammates need to cover for him. I’m also serious about my concerns regarding our punter. If we can’t punt better that 35-40 yds with only fair hang time, it will cost us points and allow opponents to frequently “flip the field” on change of possessions.
  3. My biggest concerns about special team play yesterday was more the lackadaisical KO coverage, and the two poor punts. If KO coverage team does their job the opposition should usually start between the 20-30 yd line. Great plays by coverage get keep it inside the 20 and great plays by return team get get it beyond the 30-35. Preferably the KO’s are touchbacks or fair caught. Too soon to know. Missed XP and field goal aren’t good but too soon to tell. 2 bad punts with no pressure on the punter are a definite concern. Those of you who go to practice might know more. Although Drake had an experienced line we need to get more pressure on QB. We gave up too many crossing patterns to guys wide open. That usually takes an extra second or so to open up.
  4. I was. Tailgating was really hot, had quite a few no shows but still fun. Lots of students walking back to campus after tailgating. Fun second half. It was great that they got lots of players significant playing time. Lots of room for improvement defensively and especially special teams. How quickly we improve in those areas are the key to a good season vs a great season.
  5. Waletzko moved to IR. He is out at least 4 games.
  6. Yeah, I think his injury that held him out early hurt his chances. Hopefully at least a practice squad slot somewhere.
  7. Hoosman waived by Chargers. Waletzko and Luepke make Cowboys roster. Jabril Cox cut by Cowboys.
  8. Great comeback. (The answer one expects from the typical wannabe).
  9. You don’t ever seem to be willing to share with anyone how you have become such an expert, or for that matter, how you might stay in touch. You can always PM me and I will share how I manage to stay in touch. I could probably give you some pointers. Let’s not derail another thread.
  10. Danny is the guy responsible for play calling first half and second half and has been for a number of years. The coaches review film together and as a team decide on game plans. That is the time head coaches insert their opinions and have the most influence on what plays are called and when. After that, the OC and DC call the plays with only occasional input from the head coach. I’m not sure any OC or DC expects more than that. When head coaches take over all play calling duties, they make it clear and the media knows it and it’s clear to the fans. I will need to fact check your statement about not winning the game cuz of the half-time score. If you are correct, I won’t forget. Thanks for the tip.
  11. City Council would hold special meeting. Vehicle owner would be fined, thief would receive commendation for keeping appointment with parole officer, and offered job with city of Mpls as security officer at city hall for $75000 per year plus benefits.
  12. Good for you. Maybe we can expect you will no longer apply the recurring description of mediocrity to those who have a different opinion or even different expectations. I don’t want to distract anyone from what you post. There is nothing complicated about your posts and others can form their own opinions. Neither my opinions, nor your opinions will have any bearing on the success or failure of our teams. How we all form our opinions and expectations for our sports teams is multifaceted but it doesn’t really matter. I just happen to disagree with those who refer to others as being satisfied with mediocrity based on our opinions that we may post. Let’s get this conversation back on point: the 2023 season.
  13. Ok, I’m out East, it’s raining, so I have time to waste. Correct me if I’m wrong, but It seems that you are of the opinion that those whose lives are stimulated more by things or people not related to success or failure of athletic teams and look to sports as entertainment are associated somehow with mediocrity. I would strongly disagree and the facts prove otherwise. It is the abilities, work ethic, attitude, confidence, work ethic etc. of the players and staff that will determine the success or failure of our teams. Someone who hopes we beat Drake by only 2 or 3 TD’s or hopes we are 2-2 after game four isn’t necessarily mediocre nor satisfied with mediocrity. Neither is the UND community, admin team, alumni staff or coaching staff that has slowly been rebuilding our athletic teams and upgrading facilities. One always wonders how we can become so knowledgeable that we know who is mediocre or exactly what it takes to win championships. I always wonder if those same folks have ever been involved in a meaningful manner in championships at the college or professional levels. It’s a new season. No reason not to be optimistic.
  14. Waletzko back at practice in pads yesterday.
  15. Depends on extent of injury and subsequent evaluation. Unfortunately, it can become a recurring problem similar to his other shoulder, but he might also be able to do ok. I would guess they will do an MRI and make a decision based on how quickly he can recover. Have to wait and see.
  16. Housman played on KO return and in 4th quarter at RB. Had 2 catches for total of 5 yds.
  17. Waletzko started again at RT. Injured the other shoulder in first quarter and didn’t return. Too bad. He has been odds on favorite to be their “swing tackle”. Hopefully, will be able to play.
  18. Roster lists them from Calvin. (Probably the only two college FB players ever from Calvin.) That’s where my Dad grew up. Been there many times over the years. Romfo was a Calvin name years ago. Not splitting hairs, just thought it was pretty cool and felt someone should speak up for Calvin.
  19. Matt Waletzko lots of reps with first team today. Had reps at RT and LT. Has a good chance of making team as their “swing tackle”. Tough competition though.
  20. They played for Langdon. They are from Calvin.
  21. I could be wrong. They have 2 guys wearing #44.
  22. He is #44. Was on KO team last Chargers KO.
  23. Chip Kelly suggests all 64 power 5 schools go independent and play for a championship and 64 sub power 5 schools go independent and play for their championship. Seems like the rest can do as they are doing. Interesting concept. It would affect traditional conference rivalries but that is already being done as teams realign to different conferences.
  24. Wentz earned the ring because of his outstanding play before he got hurt. He was a huge factor in their successful season. Not sure the Eagles would have made it to the Super Bowl without his contributions. He was one of the favorites for MVP and Rookie of the year prior to his injury.
