  1. Maybe not the best game ever but my first in person UND Football game was vs UNO in 82 or 83 at Memorial Stadium. Downpour all day, the grass field looked like a beet field after harvest when the game was done. I had a blast! Don't even remember who won. Going back to then is why I love the new gray pants with the green and white stripes and look forward to the new gray helmets next year. Will miss the interlocking ND on them.
  2. Season ticket holders should have priority on their seats, correct? I am so excited for Sunday morning, maybe even more so than for the hockey selection show.
  3. That's how Studsrud got hurt in the first place.
  4. Comparing the Standing Rock protest and the Anti Trump protests these last couple evenings, the Standing Rock group can take a lesson from some on non-violent protest tactics and execution but they should also take note of how well the law enforcement are treating them and their violent ways compared to the ways law enforcement is working in some cities to quell the professional Anti Trump protesters.
  5. I have a feeling the permit will be forthcoming very soon now. Could Keystone and Sandpiper be back on the table now?
  6. Where is Northern Iowa?
  7. Rudolph needs to be held personally responsible for getting Studsrud hurt. You could see each time he carried the ball in the second he was getting more and more beat up. Then Bartels got hurt late in the fourth on a running play to the Weber sideline. The offense ran the same five plays all day.
  8. Seems weird to me, Gopher fans are ripping this idea on the Star Tribune article and here the UND fans are making plans to be there. Looks like Seattle for the UND/Huskies football game on Labor Day weekend in 2018 and Las Vegas for UND/Gopher hockey the next month. I better start saving up!
  9. I am sure there would be a transition period for the NAIA programs to move from MCLA to NAIA full time, as well as some crossover to get games. Jamestown could start in the Great Lakes Lacrosse League as a club team, same league that MSU-Moorhead and South Dakota State play in, then move up to MCLA 2 where UND and NDSU play (or start here) before fully committing to NAIA. As far as facilities, you can commit to making what you have work or commit to building what you need. When I think of a local NAIA school, Mayville State is always my first thought. I would be all over Comet Lacrosse if it happened!
  10. U of Great Falls started their program in the 2013-14 school year, my son was part of that first season. Currently there is a Grand Forks Red River grad on the UGF roster. NAIA sponsored an invitational national tournament this spring for mens and womens from NAIA schools. In two years it will be a fully sanctioned NAIA sport with a national championship.
  11. UND has had a club team for 25 years. Same conference as NDSU, St Cloud, St Johns, St Thomas, UM-Duluth, Winona St, and MSU-Mankato
  12. I went to the Bemidji St/Arizona St game with my wife and son last winter, so at least five. If ASU gets into the NCHC at least we will have a new doormat.
  13. Not UND related on this topic but the Grand Cities Lacrosse Association's Varsity team won the Dakota Premier League championship yesterday in Sioux Falls, SD defeating Black Hills from Rapid City, SD 12-3. Also, Red River Valley Lacrosse Association from Fargo won the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association championship on Saturday defeating Becker, MN 9-8. Bismarck/Mandan Lacrosse and Grand Cities also won a youth titles in the Dakota Premier League tournament over the weekend. NDSU made it to the Final Four in the club association national tournament earlier in May, losing in the semifinals to St Thomas University from St. Paul, MN. St Thomas went on to win the entire event over Grand Valley State. This was St Thomas' 5 national title. Lacrosse is arriving in the Dakotas, I would love to see UND take a leading role in NCAA lacrosse.
  14. Marquette University in Milwaukee is the closest D1 men's lacrosse program to Grand Forks. They made the NCAA tournament this year.
  15. I saw the media release late Friday. A Superior International Junior Hockey League expansion team is moving into the REA in Thief River Falls, MN. I thought an interesting aspect was that current TRF boys hockey head coach, Tim Bergland, is one of the owners. After attending the EGF @ TRF game last Tuesday and looking at the TRF roster, I wonder if if Bergland might end up at the head coach of this new jr team. The cupboard is looking pretty bare after this year for the Prowlers and the one talented kid might be the first tender of the new jr team. The building will immediately become the best in the SIJHL. http://sijhlhockey.com/5144-2/ SIJHL MEDIA UPDATE Release Date: Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 SIJHL announces conditional expansion franchise in Thief River Falls, Minn. THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Friday that it has awarded a conditional expansion franchise to Thief River Falls, Minn., which once confirmed, would begin play in the 2016-17 season. The SIJHL’s board of governors voted unanimously to award the franchise, contingent on approval by Hockey Canada and the Canadian Junior Hockey League as well as an arena lease agreement between TRF Junior Hockey LLC and the City of Thief River Falls. The franchise already received formal approval from USA Hockey during its annual winter meeting on Jan. 15 in Orlando, Fla. The expansion team will play out of the 3,593-seat Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls, a community of 8,700 located in northwestern Minnesota, less than an hour from the North Dakota border. "We are extremely excited to bring Junior "A" hockey to the great community of Thief River Falls and the beautiful Ralph Engelstad Arena", stated SIJHL Commissioner Bryan Graham. "The franchise has a solid ownership group made up of some very familiar names to hockey fans of Thief River Falls and the surrounding area", added Graham. The ownership group consists of Kevin McCallum of Thunder Bay, Ont., Dave Beito, President of Northern State Bank, Tim Berglund, former NHL player and current head coach of TRF High School boys’ hockey team as well as local businessman and former WCHA official Tom Goddard. A fifth member of the ownership group is expected to be announced at a later date. "Myself and my fiancé Natalee Maxwell are very excited for this opportunity to be involved with such a great ownership group and we look forward to being members of the SIJHL for many years to come", said McCallum. "We believe we have a great city and arena that will be a diamond in the league. Commissioner Graham has worked hard to improve the league both on and off the ice and I hope hockey fans in northwestern Ontario and northern Minnesota take notice with their support of their local junior programs", added McCallum. Thief River Falls is set to become the second SIJHL franchise in the state, joining the Minnesota Iron Rangers, who are based out of Hoyt Lakes.
  16. It stated right in the Qualtrics instructions it was a best practice to list the choices randomly.
  17. Please just help get everybody that has a vote to use it
  18. Nope, all eligible voters the first time get to vote in the event of a runoff. "The online voting process will be conducted by Qualtrics, a third-party survey technology provider. Following the closing of the vote at midnight Central time on Friday, October 23, Qualtrics will tally the votes. UND expects to receive the report from Qualtrics and announce the vote results early the week of October 26. If any of the proposed nicknames receives a majority of the votes, that name will be determined to be the new athletics nickname for the University of North Dakota. In the event that no single nickname receives a majority of the votes, stakeholders who were eligible to take part in the initial vote will be able to participate in a runoff vote between the two top vote-getters." UND announces nickname voting dates
  19. Uffda! The Heraldo pulled out all their gramatical stops on this one. OUR OPINION: Let the Sundogs shine as new UND nickname Sundogs are NOT unique to North Dakota, they occur where ever it is extremely cold. And a sundog NEVER cheered me up. Usually when I see a sundog, my first reaction is "good God, why do I live here!"
  20. I have not been thrilled with the process or the five options it has boiled down to. My vote will be for Fighting Hawks. It is my opinion of the least crappy of the five options. One thing I ask, no beg, of all of you it to please vote! I understand not voting as your personal protest to the process and the situation that got us here, but please vote. The growing chorus in the media for Sundogs frankly scares the bejesus out of me and by choosing not to vote, you make it just that much easier for Sundogs to become the new nickname. The people that want Sundogs will be voting! Apathy or protest will only help them out. It takes two votes to cancel out one vote, your one vote for whatever nickname will take two votes for Sundogs to cancel your vote out. From the information I have received, voting is open 19-23 Oct. When the polls close, if one nickname has 50% or more, bang, the issue is settled and that nickname is the winner. If no choice has over 50% when the polls close on the 23rd, the top two go nearly immediately into a runoff. Final results will be announced by Halloween. Either way, sometime between 24 and 31 Oct we will find out the new nickname. PLEASE VOTE!
  21. How is the kid from Rugby looking in practice at QB?
  22. Club Sports Providing Competitive Edge http://youtu.be/cnoWemTUHbA?list=UUZWL6wXr94CInkTMLNbjuRA
  23. Saturday they play Bemidji at 11am at Gambucci. Sunday they play Bottineau at 1:30 at Purpur.
  24. What ever happened to the talk of Nebraska coming on line with D1 hockey and lacrosse? Granted, no impact on the NCHC because they would already have conference affiliation in the B1G, but with all the expansion talk I was curious.
  25. When does UND play Washington in Seattle? When they announced that, I immediately wanted to go to this one, now no way! Change the leadership NOW so the new staff can recruit and have a few years to get UND football back on track otherwise the Huskies will hang 100 on UND.
