Who was the target? Parents. As far as the texting thing, I don't know if you remember hearing the ads, but there was a campaign using texting a couple years ago. Students could text something like "I belong@UND" to win a Nano. I like the new print ads (at least the one that was in the insert to the GF Herald this weekend) but am not too fond of the TV ads. To me they look like they were made in-house. I am pretty sure they were done in house, but that doesn't mean they have to look like it. I think if UND is going to kick off their branding campaign (notice how many times you see certain words: "entrepreneurial", "spirited", "research faculty who teach"), I think they should spend the money and have something professionally done. I hate how everything UND does has to be compared to NDSU, but one thing that is pretty noticable is the rediculous amount of money they have spent on advertising (not just in athletics). Compare their "Ask me" commercials to their "Impact" commercials. The "ask me", while still pretty sharp seem very "local" or amateur compared to the "Impact" commercials. I know UND uses an outside advertising company for print ads, and I guess I just wish they would spend the dough for television ads, too. Particularly when we get advertising minutes during nationally televised games (I am thinking about the BC/UND hockey game on CSTV last year). There is a point where Studio One doesn't meet the university's needs. Just my 2 cents, though.

I sang along. Random thoughts from the game: -I couldn't wait for Landry to throw a long ball today. -Bamba is definitely fast. It looked like he waited forever for his teammates to catch up to him in the end zone to celebrate his TD. -I don't remember the TAMUK game, but the last two games the team has looked flat after halftime. Not something you want to see. -It was fun seeing the student section cheer for the flag guy in the marching band during the halftime show. -I really like all of the extra stuff on the big screen (extra stats, "did you know", scores, etc.) -Glad to see they finally broke the seal and got some sacks.

It is in the digital package, plus I believe you have to buy the "extra sports" package which is about $3 a month. I discovered it a few weeks ago, and was thinking that it would show some hockey. Speaking of CBS College Sports, last night they showed the UMD/Southwest MN State game. That was a trouncing by our former NCC-mates!

An article about this letter: Grand Forks Herald So, do all people that send letters to the editor get thorough background checks? Or just certain ones?
-
Just got mine, and when I get home from work it will be displayed proudly.

Mine arrived on Saturday. But, I have football tickets as well. Maybe they are sending out the hockey/football combos first...

President Kupchella was in the process of evaluating the future of the nickname when the SBOHE stepped in. President Kupchella timeline I know there are better supporting links out there, but I don't have a long enough lunch break to search for them. I don't even know what that bold sentence even means. Do you really believe the things you type? I know you enjoy being "that guy" on this message board, but seriously...this is a little extreme even for you.

Would it be possible to contact the ticket office to see about getting your seats in multiple rows instead of just all in one row? Like requesting 4 rows of 4 or something like that? I personally would rather have a group of seats like that. That way you could have a chance at celebrating goals (high fives and such) with more of your buddies instead of just the two on either side of you.

They should probably go in and change the bios of the redshirted freshmen...they all have quotes from Lennon Bio

What happened to the "Cogswell Cannon?"

This is definitely NOT a debate I want to become involved in, but wasn't there an interview (or quote) where Hakstol said that TJ lost his "A" because he didn't contact the coaching staff immediately after the incident and not because of the incident itself? Or did I just dream that up?

Sorry, just wanted to fix that...I am a girl. Proceed with the discussion.

I am pretty torn on this subject. I don't smoke, and don't intend to start. I grew up with a mom that smoked heavily, and I believe that my "asthma-like" condition (that's what the doctor called it) was caused by growing up with a smoker. But, I also know that she was addicted to nicotine, and was not able to free herself of the addiction. I can remember a few years ago, when she and I went out to eat, the hostess asked which section--smoking or non-smoking--and I rolled my eyes when she insisted we sit in the smoking section. I realized that, sure, she could sneak out and have a smoke outside, but then I wouldn't be hanging out with my mom anymore, I would be sitting at a table while she would be relegated outside. So, we sat in the smoking section and I spent some precious time with my mom (and she tried really hard to only smoke a little bit and blow her smoke away from me). It was what it was and we made do. I love being in smoke-free bars and restaurants. I was super excited to discover that St. Paul was smoke free when I went down for the Final Five. But, ultimately, I hate that people (smokers) can be made to feel like second-hand citizens, which I think sometimes happens as a side-effect of smoking bans.

Dean, I think Jordan Parise said that, not Herb Brooks... Edit: It has been pointed out to me (and also in the post by Siouxmama) that while Jordan did state the above quote, he may not have been the first person to coin the phrase. Apologies to Dean.

You can thank hockey fans. The telethon was supposed to be shown entirely on Channel 11 (KVLY), but so many people complained that it would pre-empt the Stanley Cup finals that they moved it to Channel 4 at 7ish, once the hockey coverage began.
