  1. I was a sophomore at UND when the flood hit, and I really didn't get the opportunity to experience it pre-flood. I really wasn't that fond of the restaurant side post-flood. I never did get good service there--ever. I am a former server, so I like to think I cut fellow waitstaff lots of slack. I did have some good times in the bar, though. My mom was an older than average student at UND in the '80s and LOVED Whitey's and the Antique. Either way, it is sad to see a Grand Forks/East Grand Forks icon shut down.
  2. Friday--Gregoire Saturday--Frattin
  3. Hang on. Back up. Bob Entzion was the NDSU Athletic Director, not UND: http://articles.latimes.com/2000/dec/09/sports/sp-63224/2
  4. I think the people of Grand Forks desperately need and deserve a library that is better than what is currently available. The statistics show that the place gets used. It is old and archaic and inefficient. I do think it is unfortunate that the site was changed, but I don't think the survey was supposed to be the end-all way of choosing a site. Of the options given on the survey, people preferred the Leevers site. That doesn't mean that the options on the survey were the only options available to the library board (obviously). I think the campaign to locate the library at Leevers became somewhat of a north-end vs. south-end debate, anyway. "Everything goes to the south end!" "Don't forget about the north end!" I personally didn't care for the Leevers site at all. Sure, it was in a prominent place, but how the heck to do you expect kids to get to the library on their bikes in the summertime? I don't want any kids trying to cross Washington or DeMers...that's a horrible accident in the making. Plus, there are the traffic access issues of that site that have been discussed ad nauseum. I don't believe that masses of people will decide to shop elsewhere if the tax is increased 1%. I think the stubborn few will, but ultimately wouldn't you spend the same amount of money on gas to travel 30, 50, 70 miles away? Just some ramblings on a cold morning.
  5. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the article, so I am not sure exactly how the statistics were presented. But, I do think it is worth pointing out that it is nearly impossible to track a student after they leave a campus. Quite a few students leave one school to pursue a degree at another school (it's closer to home, has smaller class sizes, etc). Sure, 46% of the people that start at UND don't attain a degree at UND, that doen't neccessarily mean that they don't attain any degree. Having worked with college students, particularly freshman for many years, I do agree that there is a flaw in the system that states people must determine their career (and in some ways what they are going to do for the rest of their lives) at the age of 17-18. Research shows that the brain isn't completely developed at this age! Not everyone is a good match for the expectations of college...not everyone is a good match for the expectations of a liberal arts college...not everyone is a good match for a large university...etc. My .02

  7. My sincere condolences. May God grant his family and many friends comfort during this time of grief and loss.
  8. This part surprised me. I didn't realize there were plans to make any students pay for football tickets. Hopefully there won't be too much of an uproar...
  9. I am heading to the Mankato series, hopefully both games. I have friends that are UND alumni that live in Mankato. It is really fun with the bars right next to the arena...lots of Sioux fans, too.
  10. I had heard they were looking at Aurora, but I don't know how reliable that rumor is...
  11. Does that mean that the Hockey Academy will be shutting down?

  20. Okay, so obviously the 10/3 game has passed, but I still have two tickets to this Saturday's game. If anyone is dying to see the Sioux take on another bunch of Seawolves, let me know! Seats only four rows from the field, basically half price (or buy one get one free, if you prefer). Let me know! Go Sioux!
  21. Due to work obligations and family events, I am sad to say I will miss the first two home football games of the season. So, I am hoping to give a fellow Sioux fan the opportunity to enjoy them. I have two seats in section 216, row D at about the 24 yard line. They are actually pretty good seats (in my opinion, anyway). Anyway, I really only want to gain what I spent for them, so I am asking $25 a pair for each game. Individual tickets go on sale on Sept 12, and the asking prices for each game are: 10/3 (Homecoming, vs. USD) $21/ticket 10/10 (Potato Bowl, vs. Stonybrook) $18/ticket When you consider the awesome Ticketmaster fees, I am offering you a deal! PM me if interested.
  22. We are in section 136 as well. I have been debating creating a UND-Twins "Circle Me Bert" sign, too. Any creative ideas?
  23. On the 6pm broadcast of WDAZ, Sweeney mentioned that she resigned to pursue a business venture from her home (or something like that).
  24. Me too!
