  1. Was it stated that he didn't make the HR screening? Or that he wasn't in the list of 9? Those can be two different situations. There is the possibility that he withdrew his name...
  2. Or cleaning up messes related to compliance and/or athletic eligibility.
  3. I think it's a combination of policies set forth by the state, the NDUS, and UND. Good times! Although to be fair, if anyone that didn't get hired believes they were discriminated against, this extensive documentation can help UND in the CYA department.
  4. The UND Legal team really doesn't have much of a role in the hiring process until the very end, and it is a small role. After the screened candidates have been forwarded to the department (Faison), interviews must be conducted on all the people forwarded. The department can choose the format for the interview (phone, in person, etc.). After all of the interviews have been conducted, the dpt can choose to hire one of the candidates, go deeper in the pool (request names that weren't originally forwarded after the screening process), or open the job again. Once the department chooses to hire someone, they must provide documentation that states why one candidate was chosen and the others not (each applicant receives a write-up regarding what made them unqualified...at least that's how it was a couple years ago). After being reviewed by the HR department, the paperwork is forwarded to the Affirmative Action office to verify that there was no unjust treatment, discrimination, etc. After that approval is gained, the person is hired. The previous Affirmative Action officer retired a couple years ago, and I believe that position is now manned by Julie Evans. So, as far as I know the only role UND Legal plays is the customary check at the end. Just wanted to clarify.
  5. I purged a ton of papers when my office space was remodeled, and I know I don't have any documents laying out the policies. I am guessing you or others have already searched the UND HR website. I am going by memory, but I think jobs must be posted 1 week internally and if there are no applicants 2 weeks externally. Add a couple days for screening. So, approximately 7 working days with internal applicants would be the quickest hire in normal situations.
  6. Personally, I think that a lot of work has been done "off the grid". I also think that Faison is smart enough to not say so in public, since thumbing your nose at the policies set forth by your employer can create sticky situations in the future. If he brought in "his guy" without following protocol, the door would be wide open for lawsuits, angry legislators, and at a minimum, bad press for the athletic department. As mentioned before, much has been said about the ND open record laws preventing quality applicants in a variety of positions, including university presidents.
  7. There are certain things that MUST happen if you are hiring staff at the University of North Dakota (regardless of position): -Jobs must be posted internally (it is a benefit for current employees) for at least a week, but in special circumstances can be posted both internally and externally...the FB HC job was posted internally and externally, which I got a kick out of...what current employee at UND could apply? -The UND HR department screens each application, awarding points to applicants that match the qualifications listed in the job posting -After the deadline, the applicants that earned the highest points are forwarded to the department. ALL applicants that are forwarded MUST be interviewed. -If the department would like to interview someone who was not in the initial group forwarded, they are able to, but they must interview any applicant that earned that same amount of points (or higher). So, if applicants 1-10 were forwarded and Faison wanted to interview #12, he would have to also interview #11. -Applications can be accepted after the deadline until the position is filled (and the hiring paperwork has been filed with UND HR). The screening process still takes place, and If the applicant has enough points to be forwarded, that application will be brought to the hiring department. Often if departments have a specific person in mind, they design their job posting quite narrowly to ensure "their person" is moved through screening, so sometimes the process is faster, i.e. Brad Berry getting hired so quickly...I am pretty certain he was the only person that met the specific qualifications posted. If another person applies that also meets those requirements, I suppose it's gravy.. NDSU is required to follow similar protocol, but Gene Taylor has said he would pursue requests for an "emergency exception". I don't know who determines what qualifies as an emergency. I will confess that it has been a couple years since I was part of the hiring process at UND, but I don't believe much has changed. I do agree that this system isn't ideal for all jobs available at UND like high-level coaches, but I do appreciate the system when it comes to hiring positions in my area...having a process in place to prevent situations of nepotism and favoritism is good. I like fairness. I just wanted to post this because there has been too many accusations and misinformation floating around this site. Faison can only work around this policy so much. If you have problems with the time line, you can thank the great people who created this system, not the AD.
  8. It's not like the Bears are exactly healthy... I am totally with you regarding Detroit, though.
  9. FYI announcer: you don't earn points in NC games.

  11. The marble theory lives on!
  12. Considering there is a need for Panzarella to play forward, I personally am OK with a 1-1 first period.
  13. I am guessing it's a rumor. I find the chances of that actually occurring without more word getting out (especially with this message board), pretty unlikely.

    Fire Muss

I know it has been stated before, but I think at least part of what is lacking is players with that "fire in the belly" drive. It's probably impossible to really recruit that, but it can be fostered once they get to campus. If players aren't seeing it in their leadership, they aren't as likely to be showing it on the field.
  15. I believe we all are.
  16. I saw Kotelnicki was on the sidelines and wondered the same thing.
  17. The Alumni Association is holding their tailgate events indoors at Playmakers today.
  18. As a Bears fan knowing that Cutler and Briggs are out and Tillman is nicked, not as excited for the game as I once was...

  20. Careful. You have a tendency to be harsh to anyone who has opinions different from yours. If you are going to demand that you be allowed to state your viewpoints, you have to allow others to state theirs as well, even if you disagree. Opinions that are different than yours aren't necessarily wrong (even if they belong to the "duckies and bunnies crowd"). Just sayin'
