  1. Right, was like high on his list of strengths on day 1. A full $ disclosure of the ticket office and The Ralph would be healthy. And then make some adjustments and move on, but these things hardly ever work that way. We sure don't need problems here. For the supporters that buy hockey tickets, an explanation for their piece of mind is important. Tickets sales could slip in the future.
  2. The timing for this is not good. We have some pretty tough financial years ahead without even dealing with this unexpected potential flair up. The Herald has been pretty hard on Kennedy, can only imagine the premium ink they'll use tomorrow morning. Chat with Ralph's daughter, ouch.
  3. This has been going on for some time, so potential for tensions to build. Kennedy may trying to get more for the U, but it's not in the deal till 2030 when UND gets the improvements on the land.
  4. The Ralph is a huge asset to UND. 12 years from now it will even be larger. UND is in enough hurt bag and doesn't need a mess here. This is not good to be in the paper tomorrow morning.
  5. 12 years is a long time. The two parties (Kennedy & The Ralph) need to be smart about this, if they both have good intentions for UND. I have heard of threats to Sioux (sorry, just couldn't help it) The Ralph by our president. Hopefully this is not true. If Kennedy makes a mess out of this, he will not be a president at any U. This Palace was built to benefit the U. So as we have always been told. There has never been a good accounting of this process to the Alumni and fans of this U who make it possible for The Ralph to make the $. If one figures out the attendance/ticket price, concessions, and etc. it seems like there is 1/2M$ spent by the patrons every game. Someone --- show me the money ????????
  6. My grandmother was, what we would today call, a Flickertail Forever (may she RIP) and never liked the Sioux nickname for UND. Called it a "simmering pot of stew."
  7. Drove down both a short while ago, extremely bad condition. Grand Cities Mall parking lot has the larger holes.
  8. More injuries in that game than you see in football, and we had our share of injuries last season.
  9. That's when the news reporters in the 1920's had a very hard time letting go of Fighting Aggies and therefore became really confused. Bissons was used occasionally by the press for another 20 years. Gotta gotta get back to work!
  10. Interesting post in previous post by Hammerhead: "Also notice the NDAC mascot was "Fighting Aggies" while that other school didn't add Fighting to their mascot until the 1990s." He is referring to UND. This supports the non use of FIGHTING when I was in college.
  11. Bisonville: A few Feb 2017 posts regarding Fighting in our names. Tony: Re: Testify! Cas4127: How the Bison name came about. BarnWinterSportsEngelstad: Re: Testify! DakotaOakie: it always seemed to me there was some sort of food chain upmanship going on in the Dakota universities relative to sport team nicknames. Jackrabbits --> coyotes--> Bison --> Sioux. I have no idea about the timing of all of these name adoptions but it still seems curious. The Bison / Flickertail thing (gophers anyone?) seems to corroborate the theory. Hammerhead: Also notice the NDAC mascot was "Fighting Aggies" while that other school didn't add Fighting to their mascot until the 1990s. Bison03: Re: Testify!
  12. They have been called the Farmers before the Fighting Aggies. By GradBison on Bisonville: Was it the Fighting Farmers before Aggies or just Farmers? Johnnyboy also mention on here Feb 14, 2017 that NDSU was called the Farmers at one time.
  13. The 1922 spectrum article mentions the Fighting Aggies before we were the Sioux. The last sentence of the article is about a Bison foot (hoof). I still believe we were the Sioux only (without the word Fighting for much of the time we had the Sioux name). As I previously mentioned a few posts back, I can't recall the U using Fighting before Sioux when I went to college in the early 70's.

  17. That Bird could win over some on the fence!
  18. I know quite a few alumni which I went to the U with and am still in touch with. I'll take 20 of them, those that I am the most in touch with. Eight claimed they would never support UND, if the U retired the SIOUX name. All 20 were pretty strong Sioux name supporters and all were disappointed when this BIRD hatched, me included. Four of these live in GF. To make a long story short, all but one have bought Hawk apparel and are supporting the new name, some of coarse more than others. Nine have season tickets to at least one sport and five more have given $ to the academic side of the U. All but one have gone to U sporting events since the Sioux retirement. Now this is too small a pool to make an overall judgement, but my point here is (that after the initial group that immediately accepted the change) the Fighting Hawk is gaining support, as time goes on: Some alumni made statements about their abandoning support of this U and some of those have since changed their minds. More and more alumni and fans are slowly accepting the change, and some may never. Every year, on one end a new freshman class emerges, where as on the other end - there is a RIP. All the Flickertails and Fighting Aggies are dead. Some day so will all the Aggies, Sioux, and Fighting Sioux.
  19. That's where the Hawks' Nest comes in!
