  1. I have not yet become a fan of commissioner Tom Douple, but do welcome him and the Summit office move from Chicago to Sioux Falls. Shows a little clout in the western U's of of the Summit.
  2. What we need from you gfhockey, is to break the news on a couple of blue chippas coming to UND!
  3. This thread is a full blown prairie fire. South Dakota is even helping, wow!
  4. If you get drafted soon after the 31st round and play with a chip on your shoulder, you're a Blue Chippa !
  5. So where does it show the annual $ spent to pay the bond on The Betty?
  6. Ya, you are a good week ahead of the GF Herald. The real concern here seems to be understanding of the makeup of The Ralph (3 non-profit corps) and how it works with the UND AD. Strinden claims all $ stay within The Ralph and AD. Records show UND covers the AD's annual shortfall. Does The Ralph have funds set aside, can they pay more to the AD? Kennedy seems to be trying to get more funds transferred to AD, which probably would offset UND's $ given to the AD each year to balance their budget. In this case, these additional $ would probably not be available for any sport to spend? Maybe the bond taken out to build The Betty is paid off in 2020? More potential then.
  7. Just a taught here. If UND AD received a great majority of the FB ticket sales or even all of the about $.9M in total FB ticket sales, would it change the ability of more money to be spent on FB. Probably not, when FB would still outspend the money their program brought in. UND has been covering the shortfall in the AD in years past and this will be a large challenge for UND to do in the near future.
  8. The Betty bond being paid of in 2020 is great news, wonder what the annual payment is? After this final payment the 52% ticket take might be renegotiated? Anyone know what the % of ticket sales split was in place when The Ralph opened in the fall of 2001, that would have been before The Betty was built?
  9. Kinda nice when a conference competitor of ours (especially one with the last conference title) loses a commit, but not all that good when the 0.0001 NCAA non-qualifiers are the crooks. I would have to say it must be tough being a Clown fan since NCAA 1st round loss and week later Motzko goes to their close neighbors, the Goofs. Almost feel sorry for their fans.
  10. I would say most posters and a large number of just viewers are slowly getting a lesson in The Ralph here! One of SS best threads.
  11. That was the draw, it was first just a beer bar, then added food & booze.
  12. Completing HPC phase II and higher salaries for the majority of coaches and assistants of all sports would be a big lift for UND athletics. The thing that bugs me the most about what I've learned on this thread is the bond taken out to build The Betty, then as it sounds (at least on here) The Ralph pays the bond. Be interesting to learn the details of this plan. Not much on here said about the concessions, parking, and etc. Could the largest bar in the state be actually paying for The Betty with all it's profit from those sales?
  13. Why change of location, maybe the rest of the Board of Directors will also be present? More to learn?
  14. Most U athletic departments across the country receive complaints from their alumni in that the financial reports are too complicated to understand. In our case, throw in a RE Arena, Inc. and it complicates things even more. This is a good educational thread for the fans. Hope the May 30th meeting in LV, NV brings more light to our athletics?
  15. They initially get 100%. Later give AD 48% of all sports ticket sales. They also take care of other financial concerns. The ticket money stays within UND and The Ralph.
  16. Your $100M would empty another barrel of ink at the GF Herald.
  17. I totally agree, I was there for the transition from the Barn, and many games since college. The crowd was pretty much all serious cheering loud fans. Today's crowd seems to have more of a family flavor to it and therefor not as intense.
  18. Some of us are learning as we go here, a few entities mentioned in this thread. In a week --- 1,000 replies, 35,000 views in this thread plus similar posts in other threads. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- University of North Dakota & UND Athletic Department = AD. http://www.undsports.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UND Arena Services EIN: 14-1846178 UND Arena Services, Inc.UND Sports Facilities EIN: 36-4511153 UND Sports Facilities, Inc.Ralph Engelstad Arene EIN: 11-3666663 RE Arena, Inc. Board of Directors of each of these are listed in the forms (on page 7 of each) 1 Ralph Engelstad Arena Dr Grand Forks, ND --- Built and paid for by Ralph Engelstad upon completion. Opened fall 2001. For the sake of this post and simplicity, I'll group these 3 as "The Ralph", for which all having the same address. ________________________________________________________________________ https://undalumni.org/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Champions Club ndchampionsclub.com Help support scholarships for athletics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Engelstad Foundation created in 2002, located in Las Vegas, NV which has been generous to UND and the local area, and vastly involved in Nevada. http://engelstadfoundation.com/esf/ ______________________________________________________________________ As far as I can tell, The Ralph is in place to help the AD, but is it's own entity with it's own 3 sets of board of directors, one for each of the non profits. It also seems: Expires in 2030. One board of director seems to be making the larger decisions. All funds stay within The Ralph and UND. Favor hockey over other sports. A bond was acquired to build the Betty. The Betty is part of The Ralph. Tickets sales are collected by The Ralph, CC donations go to CC. UND picks up the shortfall in the AD.
  19. There's white hope, then. Defined as "any person who is expected to bring honor, glory, etc. to some group, place, etc."
  20. I went to 2 years in the Barn, then U had a hockey build drive and in 1972 opened the 6,000 seat Winter Sports Center.
  21. Probably ten without the s every year. 6,000 seats more than the Winter Sports Center (later named Engelstad Arena) that was on 2nd Ave N. 6,000 and x $45 seat x 19 home games (that is less the 2 playoff) plus concessions is $5M. What these additional 6,000 fans add in purchases to the community? More CC donations? etc.
  22. Sure sounds like a keeper? Might keep us with the I29 U's for years.
  23. The MOTHER of all NICKNAME/LOGO WARS! vs. Our Spirit takes a lickin', but keeps on tickin'. The GF Herald has and continues to use barrels of ink on this hostility. Thousands of our students/alumni hurt from this Fighting, and even a larger number of students/alumni from rivalry campuses - LOL. The battle in Lost Wages on May 30th between two heavy weights, Kris Engelstad McGarry and president Mark Kennedy, could be a turning point, and finally start to bring some closure to this bloodshed?
  24. Some confusion here, things to remember: Engelstad Foundation shouldn't even be in this conversation or in the title of this thread. The Ralph is separate form the Engelstad Foundation, except that Kris is a board member of both. The Foundation is in Nevada. All the concerns that I see on here are between UND and the R E Arena, Inc. which has a board (throw in the two UND non-profits (tied into UND atheletics) that also have a board, which are mentioned earlier in this post). The question I ask, why are the other board members so quiet??? Are they not all equal board members??????
  25. I'm pretty sure myself, in fact I have 4 children that went to Central.
