  1. Uh ... Don't you have to be an NCAA member to if your end goal to play NCAA hockey? Shouldn't they be making the move to leave the NAIA for the NCAA? Shouldn't they be talking to the (already bloated for membership) Northern Sun to have an NCAA home?
  2. McFeely is regurgitation what he's being fed by NDSU. (SOP for media jackals.) The truth is always somewhere in the middle.
  3. CHI has an amazing Games 5, 6, and 7 record over the last few years, but I think the hole is too big this time.
  4. Meh ... The Spectrum is where Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, and Dr. J played ... right?
  5. You're either onto something or on something.
  6. Apparently someone at Oklahoma University finally figured out that a Sooner is a reference to a person who stole Indian lands SOONER than it was legal too during the Oklahoma land rush. (And let's not get into what the word Oklahoma translates to. Hint: it involves RED people. Yes, red.) Ya think some Native Americans may be offended by cheering for people who stole their lands before it was legal to steal their lands? http://www.oudaily.com/news/boomer-sooner-causes-controversy-at-ou-undergraduate-student-congress-meeting/article_99712160-06a8-11e6-9913-0f5fefdd9999.html?mode=jqm Now someone get the NCAA "offense police" on the line, stat.
  7. What I learned about Dilks from reading that: - he hates UND (he plainly admits motive) - he didn't proof his own work (where's SCSU) - he's not a pro (as pros don't use profanity) As I've said before, the only way UND in the Big Ten would be acceptable to me is if UND had it in writing that UND games would always be two-game Fri/Sat night series unless UND signed off on something else for a specific weekend.
  8. You've fallen into the trap of thinking a football program defines the whole school. Calling Boise State a "major university" is a wee-bit strong. They have a football program at a glorified teacher's/community college. US News considers them #61 regional (west). By comparison, U of Idaho (168), UND (180) and NDSU (185) are considered national universities.
  9. I'd like to see the sport offerings at UND align to the available facilities and the realities of the climate (and the sporting interests that come in this climate). I'd say this was a good first step.
  10. https://mobile.twitter.com/MattStephens/status/722451473263669248?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet Here is Boise State, sport by sport, in 2015. I'd bet most school's athletic departments look that way, namely, one or two programs "in the black" and all the rest "dead red".
  11. No, checking the 401k ...
  12. I'm not sure you read that correctly, Cratter. Just two dozen schools pay for athletics with athletics revenues. The remainder of NCAA members (900+ or so) have to subsidize athletics.
  13. < in my best BUCCIGROSS! impression > Ray! ... Off the turnbuckle! ... Gets them BOTH!
  14. If "the hockey buzz" gets one more potential student to take 30 seconds to look at UND's website, or to ask a HS counselor about UND, or gets them to visit campus, athlete or not, it's good.
  15. This article is quite revealing: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2016/04/17/ncaa-football-basketball-power-five-revenue-expenses/83035862/ So why doesn't the NCAA fix the core issue, namely, sport sponsorship requirements. I'll say it again, so what if UAA decides to sponsor men's hockey and only men's hockey in their entire athletics department? So what if NDSU decides only football at a level they can support. So what if UConn sponsors women's basketball and only women's basketball. Eliminate this whole "n men's and m women's teams to play at Division X" elitist NCAA approach. It's time for a cafeteria plan approach in the NCAA: pick and choose just what you want to play ... and can afford.
  16. The most recent link given was the one by GeauxSioux (2 day old article as I type this).
  17. Thanks to the folks minding this. I've been busy with some other items the last week or so. Please keep up the good work.
  18. Thus, with 0 minutes of regular season play, Tomek did not burn a season but he did burn a year of eligibility. And remember, you have five years to play four seasons. Effectively Tomek just redshirted (like FB guys do) this season.
  19. RPI took it to heart, and its heart was named Adam Oates and Joe Juneau. I never said Quinnipiac would win it all, just that they were in a similar position. I don't see an Oates/Juneau at QU.
  20. I put Quinnipiac right now in the same place Rensselaer (RPI) was in 1984. RPI thought they were on their way to a title. UND went to their barn in the NCAAs and it was men against boys. RPI got humbled. But they took it to heart. RPI is the 1985 NCAA champion.
  21. So the thought is LaDue would use the same option that Jimmy Vesey is exercising right now. Interesting. I might be wearing green glasses, but I don't see where there's room in the Chicago system for Johnson or Schmaltz other than on a bus in the minors.
  22. Dear shallow NDSU columnist, I believe sentiment expressed by Col. Nathan R. Jessup sums up my thoughts about your inputs on college hockey: " ... I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think ..." -- Col. Jessup, A Few Good Men I suggest NDSU pick up a stick and stand up to the face-off dot; then, I might give a damn, or not.
  23. Quinnipiac isn't a big boy of college hockey. I'll accept that. But they were a worthy opponent as they earned a spot in the title game by knocking off Boston College. And, I still see Michigan and Denver left in the debris on the path to UND's number eight; ... And Boston College on the path to seven; Boston University on the way to six; Michigan State on the way to five; Wisconsin on the way to four*; Boston College and Denver on the the way to two; Michigan State on the path to the first. *UND got the "easy path" to number three as they only had to beat Ivy Leaguer Dartmouth and Northern Michigan along the way.
  24. Q: Why don't you hear Quinnipiac fans cheering the retired "Braves" name? A: There are Quinnipiac fans?
  25. I'm not sure what your point is; however, I've said for quite a while that I wanted to reshape the sport offering within UND Athletics to better align to facilities and climate.
