Big A HG
North Dakota Norse Army (saw this from a picture) North Dakota Norse Warriors North Dakota Norsemen I think the Norse term fits the area very well.
PCM
I think the Norse term fits the area very well. I like the Fighting Berserkers even better. New school motto: You wanna piece of me?
PCM
Already has the hat. Already has the horse. And can rope anything or anyone on demand! The horse has to be a Nokota. No subsitutes will be accepted.
tnt
Please no animals. Go with "Fighting Nordics" or something like that. While I like the "Dakotans" or "Fighting Dakotans," the word "Dakota" means friend or ally doesn't it? Thus, the "Fighting Friends"?? "The Fighting Allies"?? I wouldn't mind Nordics or something to that effect, but you know the opponent's fans will take out the "R" in their chants towards our teams. I'm not sure any name would be free from that kind of scrutiny, much like they call us "Sue" now, but if they want to keep the gutter stuff away, I'm not sure this would be the best. Nordiques would be better for that reason.
Fetch
again maybe the GF AFB will let us use this ? dagies
I think Dagies is referring to the Florida State/Chief Osceola pregame ritual, which is NCAA-approved. You are correct. Wouldn't it be ironic?
MafiaMan
You are correct. Wouldn't it be ironic? A little too ironic...don'tcha think?
The Sicatoka
Careful with "Norse" and derivatives: If the NCAA actually chose to enforce the policy as written (race-based monikers) and they eliminate the "tribal approval" exemption you're right back where you started. Chief Illiniwek Supporter
A little too ironic...don'tcha think? I wish I could claim this as an original idea, but I can't. However, I would love to invite the FSU band to Champaign and tell them to bring Osceola and Renegade (can't do the flaming spear, we've got artificial turf). Personally, I don't care. There would be a lot more Scandahoovians who would be speaking out in support of the nickname than there ever were Native Americans. I think that's one we can win. I hate the idea of ducking for cover every time we fear which way the NCAA will fart next.
