Goon Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 As far as I know, the original plan back in the early part of last century, was to make the Indians American citizens, and then get rid of the reservations. One article I read on the subject claimed that this was Congress's plan, however after the Indians were given American citizenship, the reservations were not eliminated for various reasons. (one being an idea that the reservations were a good experiment in North American communism). Now, due to the casino profits, the reservations will never be eliminated. Happy don't you have better things to do than police UND web boards? Quote

PCM Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 The King Kold incident was disgusting, to say the least Yes, it was, assuming it happened as I've heard it told. But you'd have to look far and wide to find a Fighting Sioux fan who disagrees with you. So what's your point? More importantly, what's James McKenzie's point in dredging up something that occurred 35 years ago? Quote

My point is that we keep talking about the history and the tradition of the Sioux name at UND, so let's examine some of our history. Granted, times have changed. I couldn't see a situation like this happening today; it would never be allowed to progress to the ugly climax it did. Let's get it changed and move on. Quote
Diggler Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 So since it happened 35 years ago and since it would never happen today, we should change the name. Sounds logical. Quote

I have no questions for Nick Coleman, Next witness! Quote

PCM Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 My point is that we keep talking about the history and the tradition of the Sioux name at UND, so let's examine some of our history. How about the history of soldiers and settlers in Minnesota forcing the Sioux out of their homeland at gunpoint? Nick Coleman and James MacKenzie are obviously consumed with guilt about that, but I don't see them leading the charge to give the land they now live on back to the Sioux tribes it was stolen from. Perhaps I could take them more seriously if they proposed doing something meaningful rather than being obsessed with an empty symbolic gesture that will accomplish nothing and comes at someone else's expense. CDog Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Does it seem odd to anyone else that Doreen Yellow Bird ignored this viewpoint of Mr. Fool Bear? Why wouldn't she address it with one of her countless, pathetic, pieces of drivel? Quote

Sioux-cia Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Yup. Well go figure! Here I thought I was doing something entirely different. I didn't think it was a foam at the mouth anti thanksgiving article. It was an ok article. Now Coleman's article that was written and linked earlier that was a piece of junk. Typical while Liberal. Don't even say it David K. I had many white Liberal College professors that puked out the same crap Coleman said in his article copyright Gillette Hall. Edited November 24, 2007 by Goon Quote

Settle down. First off, this is an opinion board. And you got mine. And I got yours. I respect yours. You disagree with mine (which is deep down in your heart, in areas that you don't talk about with other Sioux fan club members, you actually love to read Yellowbird's stuff, 'cause it gets your blood boiling -- I'm the same way). And that is fine. Don't ruin your Thanksgiving weekend over it. But, a clarification is in order, I wasn't pointing out your "ploys," I was simply conveying a media industry ploy of using controversials viewpoints to generate more responses from the masses. Is that clearer now. Take a blood pressure pill, grab a blanket, put on some soothing music, and maybe next time you can read more clearly past your ire. Fred Canmore, Alb. Go Sioux! Quote
