Goon
I say big deal it was a charging hit, dumb, yep it was dumb. I don't think anything else should come out of this either, some on other pages are saying Hak should discipline Kaip for the hit, it aint going to happen. Those kind of hits happen all the time, especially when emotions are high, its not any where close to the Punkovich hit on Bina... I can't be the only one that believes that the Bagers were lucky to get two points from UND this weekend. Its obvious from watching the game that UND is a much faster team than the Badgers. Turris has 2 assists in 4 WCHA games. Hum, I guess there aren't any RMU's in the WCHA.
The Whistler
Turris has 2 assists in 4 WCHA games. Hum, I guess there aren't any RMU's in the WCHA. We just plain took that guy out of the game. I haven't seen us give so much attention to a specific player in a long time.
sprig
It was a Turris slash on Watkins that started the melee. Watkins responded to the slash by throwing Turris down. Way to hide Turris and Eaves. Looks like the new star player and Eaves are on the same page. And what's with standing in the corner, head down looking at the puck. The Wisco player did that for a long time, before Kaip decided to take advantage of the idiot. You've got to expect you're going to get hit. Eaves and Turris-Character revealed
yzerman19
There have been some really silly statements regarding the Kaip charge. It in no way resembles the Bina hit. Bina was head down 6 feet off the boards facing into the boards. The Badger that Kaip hit was probably the same distance from the boards, but he was facing the ice. If Kaip does not take a run at him, but simply gives him a two step shot, it is not a penalty. If Pauko hadn't ran Bina, it still would've been boarding or a check from behind. The initial hit by Kaip was given a 2 minute penalty by the officials on the ice, because that is what the penalty warranted. Hakstol's post game comments showed class. He stated that any issues were between the coaches and the players on the ice. Eaves, of course, had to comment publicly that he was displeased and "how often do you see that in college hockey". Of course his squad is completely innocent. You want to talk about further ramifications, how about the third man in on Jonesey! That is not called for. Proper hockey etiquette calls for each player to match up with an opponent (typically your counterpart or a similar sized man) during a line brawl. Not two on one. You could tell Wisconsin was frustrated all game. The cheap shot (from behind) on Osh after his goal really started the bad blood. Finley could've taken care of it on the ice, but the Badger he was jawing with in the penalty box clearly had some brains in his head, as he did not pursue the fight with the Monster from Edina. Emotions run high in WCHA games. I think that Wisconsin realized (as their broadcasters stated) that they have alot of work to do to match up with the Sioux or any other top tier team come March and April. They were frustrated and emotions started to get the better of them. Once that happens, it snowballs. It looked like playoff hockey. Sioux are ready. Badgers are not. There is no penalty for checking a player with his head down - only for taking about 5 strides before you do it. Typical Wisconsin - agitating and not being able to back it up and then whining after the fact.
burd
Good game last night. Nice to see us quiet the crowd still high on the Michigan game. The people out on Regent and State streets were pretty pumped after the football game. About Wisco fans and the jump-around stuff. Those folks know how to have fun at hockey games. When you think of how boring their team has been in recent years, it's amazing that they have such a great atmosphere--not quite as good as the old Dane, but good. It's not all paint thinner and beer--they just love their band and their fun. One guy I think will really be missed next year is Bina. He is so dependable, with the right mix of fire and cool-headedness. He is a rock at defense but can go to the net too. Finley had a few miscues, but for a big guy he is surprisingly skilled at getting the puck off the boards and on the break-out. LaPoint seems to have good confidence to go along with his stick skills. He's going to be very very good for the Sioux. The team speed really becomes evident when you see this team in person. You guys who get to watch them in person week in and week out are fortunate.

Eaves and Turris-Character revealed Well I would say that more so it was the Wisconsin player that jumped Watkins after he took down Turris that got all of the players involved. Let's see these punks do that in the AHL or NHL. Turris also was slashing Jones but needed someone to help him out there too. (That was Turris wasn't it?) But, if a player went after Kaip for the hit (clean as it might be) I wouldn't mind it. Sticking up for your teammates is what you expect. Sioux-cia
Yeah, too bad I couldn't have the radio on (seven second delay with the TV) instead of the homers that were covering the game on FSN. Don't remember the older guys name, but he refused to pronunciate Vande's name correctly. His partner could say it, the guy on the PA at the Kohl could say it, but this guy kept on saying VandeVeld. Also, couldn't make up his mind if it was Jenoway, of Genoway. Almost prefer the Maz and Wooger. Also, Props to the guys/gals that do the home games for FSSN. It's amazing what a good job they do at producing the games. I listened to the announcers on FSN and I thought they were very complimentary to our team and program. NOTHING like the Goof's homers! As others also noticed, the young guy had a definite man crush on Oshie!
WiSioux
Not sure if anyone else at the game got the same feeling as I did, but the Badger fans seemed to honestly think that when our players were being escorted off the ice their players would not be. The honestly thought that all five of our players were going to leave and none of theirs were... I was shocked by this...

Yep, that was funny, he got as far away from Jonesy as he could and still reach him by bending forward and stretching to stick him.
The Whistler
Gennoway was pretty feisty last night. He got right in it when TJ was high sticked after his goal and then was apparently right in it during the big altercation. (Going by the announcers rather than the video.) Being home in Wisconsin they replay the game right after it finishes so I came home and watched parts of it again. On T.J.'s goal it actually looks like Drewskie crosschecks Chay and not T.J. There isn't a reverse camera angle so it's hard to tell exactly who he hit, but I'm pretty sure that it was Chay, and that Chay did the majority of the shoving after the goal. NOTHING like the Goof's homers! As others also noticed, the young guy had a definite man crush on Oshie! Yes Rob Andringa (former badger player?) was all about our squad. At the end of the telecast he said that the Sioux should have won on Friday also. One point during the game he said after a Sioux shift ......... "that 30 seconds should be put on dvd to show how to move your feet and the puck" Lapoint is going to be one very fine defenseman in the WCHA, very poised already for a youngster! poopski
Maybe the (J)(G)enoway's should decide how they want to have their name pronounced. One kid it's a G and the other it's a J? Kaip should lose his captaincy for that stupid hit. It had the potential to be another Paukovich/Bina incident. If Hakstol doesn't discipline him then he's a woman. This was not in any form like the dirty hit from Paukovich. In no way when Kaip was rolling towards him and after he hit the guy did anyone GASP OH MY GOD!!! It was a huge hit, yeah, but as far as being as dangerous as some tards describe on here, it wasnt. Let me point a few things out... 1. You NEVER lower your head like the wisonsin player did and take your eyes off your surroundings. 2. If it was soooo dirty why was no one extremely pissed right away? The crowd didnt even make a huge deal about it. 3. If you didnt notice the refs arm didnt even go up for a penalty until kaip was on the ice with him for a few seconds. If that was such a dirty and dangerous play, Shepherd or Campion would have had their arms up right away since thats all their good for. 4. It wasnt even the same kind of hit as the paukovich hit, so Im not sure how you can even compare it when he wasnt even facing the boards?? Yeah it was a penalty, but to go as far as saying it was dirty and dangerous, Im really not sure. Ive seen much bigger hits when guys heads are down(aka smaby on potulny a few years back on the blue line) and their heralded for great hits. Donald
And what's with standing in the corner, head down looking at the puck. The Wisco player did that for a long time, before Kaip decided to take advantage of the idiot. You've got to expect you're going to get hit. Sprig: Hard to believe you're serious. Naturally, posting here I expect the dullard contingent to come out in force with their brilliantly witty comebacks (by "brilliantly witty" I mean 2nd grade-ish) but the fact is that Kaip paused about 5 ft away from the opposite side of the net; then he saw two bucky players challenging one sioux player for the puck. He picked up his pace and easilty 15 ft before he hit Smith, he could see that he was bent over. If anything, at that point Kaip increased the intensity of his strides to make a bigger hit. Yeah ... fine ... you're supposed to hit hard in hockey. No doubt. But charging is as equally dangerous as checking from behind. It was nothing other than minor circumstance that kept Smith's head from drilling into the ice (which could certainly have caused a neck injury). For you to minimize this the way you've done makes you a far bigger homer than I would have previously imagined. That's all ... I'm just surprised. The rest of my comments aren't directed at you ... So to address one other point (amongst the other mostly ridiculous replies) ... The fact that the ref didn't call a 5 min penalty is meaningless. When do the refs get it right? Did they get it right on the Pauko hit? No. Did they get it right on this hit? No. Kaip is an enforcer. Nothing more. In a game where fighting is outlawed he is irrelevant except to a coach (and a fanbase) with a serious inferiority complex. I know you guys think you have an NHL team there in GF but ... psst ... you don't. I find it ironic that I'm hoping Dirty will show some of this fanbase some maturity. I find it ironic that I'm hoping Dirty will show some of this fanbase some maturity. I don't know you, but obviously other people on this board do... With that, couldn't you say that with pretty much any check there's a chance that a player's head could be drilled into the ice? Physics tells me that if a person is hit from the side while their back is to the boards, they will fall shoulder first into the ice. But, if a person is hit from behind into the boards, their head will hit first. Not the same thing. Maybe Dirty will show maturity, because so far the fanbase hasn't seen it from you.
