Superman0099
Ferris St. is led by left winger Chris Kunitz, who is a hobey baker finalist, and has 74 points on the season, although he is described as a more defensive forward. They won the CCHA regular season, but lost to Michigan in the final 5-3. Their goalie Mike Brown is suppose to be pretty good. He touts a .927 sv% and a 2.23 gaa. However, I doubt he's any better than Dubie, Berkhoel, Volp, or Reichmuth. The Sioux have faced outstanding goalies all year, Mike Brown will not be anything special. I don't think the Sioux will lose this game, Blais and the boys have way more tourney experience than Ferris, and probably more depth. With David returning, and Brandt at the top of his game, the Sioux should pull this one out.
leifolson
That's assuming that Brandt will be at the top of his game, which, unfortunately, is assuming quite a bit. My guess is that our best chance is to get a great emotional lift from Hale's return, and some sort of fright from the knowledge that this game actually WILL be the last one of the year if we don't win it. Ferris State is a pretty good team and we are the underdogs in this one. We need to play like this game actually means something. I think that has been missing from the team for quite some time now. Here's to hoping that it all comes together and the Sioux have a great run at the Championship.
ScottM
I agree, Leif. This is where the game *really* means something. If the team isn't up for this one, mentally and physically, it'll be a long trip back to GF. If the team plays as well and with as much heart as they did in Mpls in January they have a pretty decent shot. While it is utterly critical that Brandt be on top of his game, the offense has to shoot the flippin' puck and go after the rebounds and garbage shots. There was too much dancing around and puck play against Duluth, especially near the end. Having Hale back would be a nice bonus, but aside from the emotional boost to the team, I wouldn't expect too much on the ice from him at this stage. farce poobah
From what I understand, Ferris is physical, get good goaltending, and Kunitz is centerpiece of the offense. If we have to play Ferris, I am glad its on the Big Ice, as I expect we have more speed than they do. Plus we've played 10-12 games on Big Ice, including Mary Ucci. I'd not like to play them on NHL ice, in say Grand Rapids. Given that the Sioux are a low #3 seed, this is as good a draw as we can expect. The Sioux had a significantly stronger schedule than Ferris (hard to believe, eh Happy?). Ferris SOS is ridiculously low. 9 North Dakota 249.4 10 Ferris State 154.0 Still doesn't say what will happen on the ice but it was nice to find out a little more about Ferris. sprig
Losses to Wayne State and Alabama Huntsville. Looks like they may have problems underestimating an opponent. I don't think they'll underestimate the Sioux, however. Should be entertaining.
jk
Nice, dagies. Wins over all those middle/lower CCHA teams don't seem so impressive at first, but I guess they beat them all by pretty good margins, which is impressive. Plus, UND didn't exactly pound on the middle of the WCHA down the stretch. While the WCHA may be superior to the CCHA, I'm guessing the margin may not be as large as I'd like to think. Apparently FSU's forwards are smallish and had trouble even with Michigan's undersized defense last week. That may be the key to the game, playing that 20-shot-per-game defense that UND did so often this year. That, and finishing around the net. I'd like to see a big kid like James Massen plant himself in front and reach a few loose pucks.

I'd like to see a big kid like James Massen plant himself in front and reach a few loose pucks. This is the part that I think UND will have an advantage. Not many teams can get through our huge strong defense, and with David back, FSU may find it nearly impossible. However, I wouldn't count them out so soon, they are a program fighting for their first frozen four ever, and they obviously are a good team. I don't think there's any question to the fact that we outman them, but we need to outplay them to win.

flatspin7
I heard that I am mad becuase you still havent learned how to spell!!! But on another note the CCHA is a weaker conference than the WCHA. Ferris State is not historically a power house even though that could be changing, but the only other historically great hockey programs in the CCHA are Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Michigan is an up and down team year by year. Ohio State has been decent since about 5 years ago but before that they were nothing to speak of. Lake Superior was a powerful program in the early to mid 90s but are nothing much to speak of now. It seems that the WCHA and HE have more teams every year that could win it. The WCHA has UND, UM, CC, DU, MSU-MANK, SCSU, and UMD that could really beat on most teams in a given night. HE has 4 teams that could do a lot of damage as well (BU, BC, Maine, and New Hampshire, Providence and UMASS also have their moments) But I may partial to WCHA hockey but I really think a WCHA team will take it all the way CC and the Gophers have a great shot. I wouldn't mind seeing the Sioux making a run for the money as well though. LETS GO SIOUX
