Jonathan Toews

Believe me fellas, this old Sioux fan's heart will be broke as much or more than anyone's when those guys leave for greener pastures. I would love for them to stay another year, I'm sure certain circumstances could make them stay or go, that's up to the team that owns their right's. But I will also be very happy and very proud of them and all the other's that get to fullfill their lifelong dream of playing pro hockey. We gotta enjoy while we can.

I feel the same way, word is that eventually a lot of these players will be staying longer because of the way the CBA is written, and the fincial incentive won't be there as it is now. Hopefully they are right.

Maybe JT will want to participate in his 3rd WJC bad enough, which results in him coming back to ND for one more year! Okay, it's a stretch, and I wouldn't bet on it, but we can hope!

I understand that college teams are more likely to release their players for the WJC, but making the jump to the NHL doesn't totally wipe out his chances of playing in a 3rd WJC - especially if he doesn't crack the Blackhawks' lineup like some people think will be difficult for him.

So you know this for a fact? I won't disagree with you that he has had a strong WJC, but he has been average with UND this season. Granted every team that has played UND this season has slashed, hooked and held Oshie and Toews but if Bochenski isn't in the NHL, I don't see how Toews is going to crack the Black Hawks line up?

I think Toews would have an excellent shot at cracking the Blackhawks' lineup next year. Comparing his situation to Bochenski is a little apples to oranges. Bo's a good player, but I think Toews has a better all-around game and he comes in with a higher draft status so I'd bet Chicago would be more apt to get him out there to see what he can do.

Now, would there be room for both Skille AND Toews? Maybe Skille jumps early and Toews stays? That sure would be nice.

lets enjoy these 2 while they are here. toews is gone after this season in my eyes and oshie i would say 50/50. just my opinions. i have a very good feeling that toews is gonna repeat last years 2nd half and oshie will follow. they both have been banged up and have been battling. these 2 are special players and love watching them on the weekends. and especially i love watching them on the ice at the same time.

I think it all comes down to school, at least for TJ. If a guy doesn't mind school and has little difficulty in getting good grades, and also loves playing at UND, then I'd see him staying one more year. However if he hates the sign of seeing another textbook, I think hes a goner too. Why would you stay in college if all you were here for is hockey and hated trying to keep up good grades? Where instead you could ditch the books and pick up a fat check? I think oshie loves it here so I'd also say its a 50/50 chance of him leaving

In my opinion Toews would be in Chicago's lineup this year had he pressed them for contract. The real question is whether or not he and Oshie can take over the second half of the season again and get the Sioux deep into the playoffs.

They have had like no sucess, until recently when Denny Savard was hired. I watched them play many times this season, I don't think he can break the line up this season. Seriously, have you seen them play this year? They have an outside chance of making the playoffs.

Appearantly wrong emotion icon...

I'm going to guess that Toews is having absolutely no problem keeping up with his studies. Check out some old posts about this kid if you think I'm kidding. Don't be suprised to see Toews graduate with his incoming class even after playing two full years of professional hockey. He is a very smart kid.

I guess I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought toews is dumb  I guess I've just heard that TJ loves playing here (talked to his dad after a game a couple months back) and I don't know so much about toews. All i know is that if my name was being chanted during every home hockey game, I loved UND, and I had no problem studying or getting good grades, then why not stay another year. However if I hated going to class and wasn't so 'book smart' then Id probably take the money and run. People tend to forget that side of the story when some of these guys leave early. It would be a tough task to keep up the grades and play/practice as much as these guys do.

I guess I never thought of it that way. Lets see, while the leg refs have stood by and watched, the dynamic trio have been slashed , hooked, given face washes, held and Drug down in the corners. Toews was also subject to a dirty hit (it looked like a spear) while playing Maine. I guess that makes sense.

It doesn't help that they are playing on a team where no one besides Radke is willing to drop the gloves and defend them when they do get cheap shots. A team with a 6'7" 250 lb monster that is like an Italian World War II tank when it comes to fighting. One speed forward and five in reverse.

I'm sure long island frazee is no stranger to that position. He's probably been in it many times, with his head hanging in the gutter, puking, outside of Blarney's.

PERFECT caption, i almost went there :):)

toews took him TOP SHELF, just like he likes his ISLANDS ;)

Anybody here think that the fact that Toews is now a national hero of sorts in Canada will help the Sioux in recruiting Canadian kids? Maybe not a huge effect, but some?

With the three shootout goals they were using the word "Icon" to describe Toews and North Dakota must have been said at least a dozen times during the contest so you can't buy better advertising than that.

When I started this post I mentioned that "Character" is what separates Jonathan Toews from star players of other programs. I think Craig Hartsburg says it best.......

"I guess we kept throwing Jonathan out there," Canada coach Craig Hartsburg told Sportsnet. "He is an amazing kid and he is character. When you describe character, Jonathan Toews is a character player. He does everything for the team. He is a heart-and-soul kid."

This kid is very special and UND fans are extremely fortunate that he wanted to come back to school this year when the Chicago Blackhawks were putting a lot of pressure on him to sign. It speaks volumes about JT and the Fighting Sioux program. I can't think of another player that would've done that, or another program that creates that type of loyalty from a student/athlete.

Thanks AZSioux. First time I saw the shootout. Disappointed with Kane's first shot. The entire tournament, he's gone top shelf on goalies, with the most impressive coming when he stickhandled all the way into the goalie with about 5 inches between him and the goalie, when he puts it up high. Didn't look like he even tried to go high, but rather sneak it by Price's right pad. Oh well, that's hockey. Toews did great, and definitely had a sniper of a shot going on.

I'm in Chicago and saw that article yesterday, from what it sounds after March 1 he will be fair game. The hawks really want him. I attended last night's game here in Chicago and I swear it was the Toews show, spent a whole NHL commercial break showing his goals and his stats from the WJC. Also auctioned off his signed Draft Jersey, made a $600 bid, but was beaten out by a $750 bid, this jersey looked nice. Last night JT's name was mentioned close to 25-30 times throughout the game for various reasons, I really believe the Blackhawks are putting an advertising campaign out there to make him a household name in Chicago come March. Though, I don't like this, after yesterday I'm sure the moment our season is done he is out of here, if not earlier.

They should have brought that to The Ralph to auction off. I can only imagine that they would have made much more than that!
