The conferences like the Summit have become independent minor leagues of division I basketball players know it and coaches know it now agents feeding of this system really know it. This system is going to blow up with major scandal coming especially with sports betting. There is going to number of schools where Federal government descend down where everyone is going get caught up sports scandal where players, agents, coaches, school administration and organized crime is involved resulting in felony charges. Results will be loss of public support and media backing away from college sports. Presently nobody is moving with any urgency at political level or from the colleges. If my experience from being around long time examples will be set against lower mid majors because they will not have resources to fight this and they will be examples for the top teams to clean this up or face similar punishments. I know we need to get more involved with our NIL support but we need to be very careful putting necessary safeguards so we don’t get caught up in this coming scandal it’s not if this going to happen just matter time when this happens. What is happening now if this was done back 70s and 80s there would have been prosecutions already happening.

wtf is a hockey school? That model doesn’t exist anywhere in division one in the country other than, supposedly, Grand Forks, ND … maybe that’s why UND athletics is so god damn amateur

Amateur…I know what you’re saying, but there’s a lot of irony in the use of that word.

Here's an idea. Drop both MBB and WBB since they both are dead anyway and restart women's hockey with Brad Frost as coach. We're a hockey school and the women's program was on the rise when it was cut. Am I crazy or what??

They can restart women's hockey any time. They were given the dollar amount needed to make it happen and......crickets

I said that in jest, however based on the ROI on both BB programs it's a better deal as is going over to Valley Middle school on Thursday nites and watching the YMCA league.

It wasn’t just “some money” though. It was like 2 million dollars I believe, which you can’t fault anyone for taking.

$1.6 million at W. Virginia. Treyson made the right decision

Right now, I think every Summit school has a better NIL situation than UND.

If NDSU lands one of our players in the portal............

Denver doesn't have football so it would be reasonable that they'd have more NIL than UND; St. Thomas also as their football is DIII.

If people on this site want better NIL, pony up. Mr. Bonzer will set you up.

Not surprised.  Coach kept him on the bench to teach him life lessons. He should have had more minutes.

Who would he have played ahead of? Eli, Grayson, or Kraft? His offense is lacking and his size makes matchups pretty hard. He'll be a good player at St. Cloud St.

If we lose players to higher level programs, I understand that.

But if we lose players to Summit League rivals, that would be unacceptable.

That's what I was getting at.

I see Marley Curtis has hit the portal.
I thought he was coming around and starting to figure things out here.

If Marley moves on and Micah stays, UND wins that trade.

Have we lost players to Summit league schools in the past? I don't remember any

So how much is he being offered? Is it 100k, 500k, a million or more?

Where exactly do we see Greyson's skill set taking him? Big 10, SEC, Big 12?

Personally, I think they Summit is where he belongs. Not fast, good shooter, not great, and he couldn't play in the lane against NDSU so what conference does he go to and do what he did here? Tough to see him going higher.

Bruns is all I can think of on the men’s side.

I think the proof is in the pudding. I don’t know the numbers, but the ride or die guys are WAY lower (maybe a handful) than the guys that flee or don't care for him. Some of that can be explained by other factors like a lack of playtime. But we loose a lot of players that we probably shouldn't.

If you think a coaches personalitycan somehow sway a 19 or 20 year old kid from getting paid and moving to another level of competition you truly don't understand NIL. Guys leaving is a business decision, they have agents in their ears telling them they can get paid. FWIW, it doesn't work for many many guys. This is college sports today. Sather coaches his guys, Schmidt coaches his guys, they still lose guys every year.

NDSU will lose 4 or 5 players this spring also, its the world we live in.

True to certain level. Treyson could have left a year earlier, but he was a ride or die guy that listened to Sather, and it worked out for him. Numerous others should have stayed another year but didn't. Sure, you can call it purely a business decision and put it on NIL but in reality, if their is a bond or mutual respect between coaches and players everyone succeeds. If it's more of a one way street and the coach has a transactional only style, you're more than likely going to see things happen that don't make sense. Which is what we see with this team.

not to disrespect Eaglestaff but earlier it was said he got $1.6M.  I don't know who else West Virginia added via the portal  but they didn't even make the field of 68.  that is expensive and I wonder if in a few years schools are going to be more cautious.

The price has only gone up each year since NIL was passed. I don’t see it dropping anytime soon
