Given that UND has the potential for SIX current and future players to be representing their countries this year, there should be a lot of UND fans' eyes on this tournament this year.  I really wish life would have worked out where I could have taken a couple of weeks to spend in the Twin Cities to take in the action, but alas, adulting is hard.

Any concerns about any of the six NOT making the cut?

  • Canada
    • Verhoeff
    • Reschny
    • MacKenzie
  • USA
    • Emery
    • Zellers
    • Heil

I haven't looked at the pools yet to see who got the pool of death.

I wouldn't really understand the reasoning why they'd invite MacKenzie if they didn't want to keep him. He's the only on my list for Canada that I'd doubt initially. For the US, Zellers being a late addition to the camp was just weird. Is it an indication that he's the "last man out"? Would be wild to me to keep him off that team. We'll see!

Canada beat Sweden in pre tournament play 2-1 in Kitchener.  They have another one with the Swedes, and then they open the tournament with Czechia at Mariucci.

The USA opens against the Germans next Friday at the G spot.  Game time, 5pm.

Pools are pretty balanced. NHL Scouts may need Helicopters if they want to watch USA and Canadian players on the same day, or Finland and Sweden on the same day during pool play.

It's gonna be awesome for UND and recruiting exposure if all six UND connected players make the WJC.
I hope the announcers aren't afraid to say where all these boys are playing college!

I'd say Heil is the better of the 3.

Of the 4 there they cut the goalie that has the better numbers this season.

I see goaltending the weakness of this team.

Reyelts was an odd cut…he’s been really good this year.

Verhoeff as an extra is just dumb....but let's not forget this is Canada.

I've read some "not where we thought he'd be" jargon from the Canada bloggers.

If he hadn't made the jump south of the 49th parallel its not a question.  The way Canada finds a way to screw up their world junior team some years is mind boggling.

A lot of talent on Canada this year pushing both Reschny and Verhoeff down the depth chart.
Hopefully could be something to help keep them at UND for another year, knowing that they could go back and have a more important role next season.

Exactly. Top 3 potential pick Verhoeff sits meanwhile top potential #1 pick McKenna looked his usual uninspired lackadaisical self again last night.

McKenna did join my five year old yesterday in the not so glamorous category of shooting the puck into your own net during a game.

Only difference is my kid took great pride in lighting the lamp for the other team.

Zellers with a great pass to set up Lee. 2-0

Then Lee to Zellers 3-0

All this from a kid not even initially invited to camp.  ;)
