Yes, 100%

At lot can change in a year but it looks like we may only have one or two forward spots open to freshmen a year from now. I would love for Dayne Beuker to join Williams and McKamey as blue chip commits for 26/27.

Another CHLer, Aleksei Medvedev, is off the board as he signs his ELC with Vancouver. Pretty risky move here with a CHL goaltender. I guess it is possible that he's Carter Hart or Dustin Wolf and transitions excellently to pro once he enters the A, but my opinion is that he should have gone to the NCAA for two years.

A BCHL guy told me he doesn’t think McKamey is going to be ready for college in 2026. We will have to see how he develops in the WHL this year though.

This could very well be the case. I think a huge reason he picked UND was because they would let him come early. I bet they bring him in unless he obviously isn’t ready.

He's going to need to have a dominant year in the Dub to be brought in early. Don't think Jackson would want to rush a guy up a level if he ain't ready

Curious if there's been any push from the staff to flip Tynan Lawrence and bring him in a year early (he does still follow UND on insta for what it's worth). There's the precedent from Cullen Potter as well last season to come in early and he held his own for the most part. Also flipping him from BU would be some sweet revenge.

Would require him to have accelerated and graduate HS early. Not super common, although it's happening a bit more now. Additionally, I expect Lawrence, a Maritimer, to want to go to university on the East Coast and be relatively close to family, hence partially why he committed to Boston University to begin with.

So…is tomorrow the day? Another Friday Bat Signal?

Too damn anxious for this season to start. Ha.

Honestly, I'm anticipating the last 2 roster spots will be filled by guys who aren't super exciting.

Next big time bat signals will be on or after August 1st when the new recruiting window opens. Very willing to be dead wrong on this, but just the feeling I have.

Ya slim odds I'd imagine but there has been talk of him possibly going to the CHL for one year so if he's going to be "moving" leagues maybe just cut it down to 1 stop and go to college. You'd imagine if he was going to the CHL now you'd have heard about it already like other players from the USHL. (putting on the tin foil hat on but it seems a little curious)

He would turn 18 in January of his freshman year. Potter, Horcoff, and Boumedienne all coincidentally turned 18 in January this season and were solid producers for their team. At this point in his development, McKamey is probably more highly regarded than those three.

Lawrence is going to be an interesting one to watch. The USHL caught & passed the Q before the rule change, but since the rule change, the Q is getting more talent from New England & NCAA route Canadians from Quebec/Maritimes, while the USHL is losing talent. I would still think the USHL is a better overall league than the Q, but it's pretty close.

McKamey had a good but unspectacular 15 year old season in the BCHL. Honestly not sure what to expect of him in the Dub this season. A lot of outcomes are on the table, all of which Chyzyk and Jackson will be monitoring for future decisions.

Was Lawrence between UND and Boston when he committed?

IIRC, Boston University & North Dakota were the 2 finalists. Might have been another team in the race though.

Martone is the only guy available that would change the expectations that I have for this team next year. There’s a few unsigned players from previous drafts that would be happy with. Other than that, maybe get a guy like Robbroeck (or Lawrence) to come for their draft year. At this point, any of the above would be unlikely but I guess all it takes is one “yes.”

I wouldn’t sleep on some of our underclassman like Swanson, Littler, and Kernan. Those guys could all be good players for us next year.

Very interested to see what Roobroeck decides to do going forward. Seems like he's going back to the O to play his DY with Niagara. Going to be a top 5 pick in 2026 barring anything unforeseen happening.

He is 9 months older than Verhoeff and also has nothing to prove in the CHL. He also has the frame to play in college hockey this year and potentially make the jump into the NHL next year. He checks every single box and should absolutely go to college. I think him and his agent would be foolish not to make the jump.

Obviously you know that he’s been rumored to Michigan but they have A TON of centers right now. He’s definitely the best forward available after Martone.

Would be nice for North Dakota to make a statement and grab a high profile OHLer at some point soon. Chyzyk likely working on that as we speak, at least trying to make inroads on recruiting in Ontario

Roobroeck or Martone would be huge but both unlikely. I would love to get an OHLer for 26/27 to open the floodgates, at least.

I have a feeling about a bat signal tomorrow. It’s only a matter of time. I just hope we find out before August 1st.

Guessing Chyz is at Select 17 festival this week

With this new talent pool, roster spots are incredibly valuable. If you're not able to get a high-end guy, I would (1) Add someone from the Portal w/ only one year of eligibility left. Essentially, punt. Have them as your 14/15F. This also frees up a spot in the 2026 F class. (2) Bring in one of the current recruits a year earlier than you expected. Probably Schultz. Frees another spot in the 2026 F class. Important for Schultz is he's at worst 13F since you already have two-depth guys behind him.

I sure hope that still needing to fill two forward roster spots for next year isn't hurting our recruiting efforts for Aug. 1! That's what worries me a bit that we may be spending more time than expected on next years roster. I'm sure they are still working crazy hard on Aug. 1 recruits though but don't want this taking time away or losing someone because of it.
