Minnesota bringing in a D3 guy, Graham Harris (2003), instead of going after any of the medium to high profile CHLers. Bold strategy.

Bowling Green loses their top recruit for now, Mazden Leslie returns to the Dub for his overage season. Bet Leslie signs a minor pro deal after next season.

Dang.  I would think there's got to be quite a few UMN fans that are a bit concerned about Bob's recent recruiting misses & strategy.

Nevermind bringing in an older player which their fanbase supposedly despise.  At least he’s not a 25 year old Canadian.  Funny how we are bringing in young guys and the gophers are going against their traditional recruiting, even after taking a Minnesota State recruit.

They have like 100 alumni coaches that are in his ear pulling the strings

I think they're puzzled bringing in a D3 guy, but they justify it since he'll be a 14th forward and he's a Minnesotan.

This article reads an awful lot like that Miami student newspaper article from like a decade ago that called them a "dynasty".  :D

PSU Champs or Bust!  ;)  The phrase epicenter of college hockey is mentioned numerous times.

I still think Michigan State is a more likely national champion than Penn State, simply because of goaltending. At least on paper.

Hopefully Penn State has the same success as Pegula’s Buffalo Sabres have.  Would love to see them stumble out of the gate and not be able to recover. Hopefully the squad is as overconfident as the fans.
Hopefully the NCHC has a better head to head record against the Big Ten this year, with us heading the way against Minnesota, and Arizona State taking out Penn State.

Very interested to see how they do with a fully healthy Cruz Lucius

I plan to be at the ASU/Penn State games.

Last year they should have taken one if not both from Michigan.

Hmm. The writer thinks a main reason PSU didn't win it all last year was because they didn't have enough NHL draft picks. He needs to see what BU has done.

PSU is the pretty heavy favorite on the Draft Kings site (+400) with BU at +800, followed by MSU and Michigan at +900.  Fan Duel doesn't have their odds posted yet, that I've seen.

I actually thought the article was pretty fair and well written.  The eyes of college hockey are going to be on PSU, and honestly, they've shown nothing in their past that suggests they will thrive with that kind of scrutiny.  Teams that come to town with that target on their back almost always face the best by their opponent.  It'll be interesting to see.

They sort of snuck up on people last year.  That won't happen this year.

Usually odds in Vegas are either primarily juiced by 2 thoughts of thinking.

  • This team is loaded and likely to win it, need to lower the odds.
  • We think ALOT of people will be betting on this team if we don't lower the odds. (Think this is more the case with Penn state, any casual who has just found out about college hockey last week would've been blindly betting on them just because they saw McKenna commit, Vegas is covering themselves of the risk)
    • Seems like UND falls in this bucket alot more recently as well, I've usually looked at our odds and thought in reality we are listed as too much of favorite but it's due to the likely volume of bets that they assume will come from our fan base.

And 100% agreed with the target on their back, this will be a brand new experience for Gadowsky and every single player on that team.

Penn State announced their NC schedule.  Aside from ASU, looks like they lined up the cupcakes, as usual!

:D

The only reason they are playing Arizona State is because they owed them a trip.

Revenge of the Cupcakes this season

Edit: The comments and repost are gold

Weak non-conference schedule.

Cupcake city. Plus, 7 of their 10 games are at home. Those could be Pairwise killers if they lose some of these.

Listen to an interview of Sean Hogan, Director of CHI.  A question about a network like ESPN to carry a game of the week. CHI is working to partner with ESPN or NHL Network to grow TV media rights for college hockey, but each conference has their own TV media rights deal. Hogan said talks are taking place to get everyone on the same page about TV media rights or that is what I got from it.

Interesting that Mike Snee has been working for a about a decade to get the NCAA legislation and work with the schools to get a team in the Spangler Cup. He said the coaching staff should be announced in the next few weeks.
