Quit recruiting slow, small basketball players first. Arguably UND had the best D2 Arena in Basketball 🏀 the Hyslop when packed could hold 5,000+ fans. Fans were engaged, loud, knowledgeable and students actually supported the programs! Hyslop Hysteria was a thing. Winning streaks were long and memorable! We WON, and kids came to play for that! 2 4 Quote

gfhockey Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago At least they are family and chavez made the hire quick to save the recruiting class we had coming in per source 1 Quote
DL Sioux Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Hutter inherited a gas fueled dumpster fire. He may or may not be the right hire but building some unity with the girls is as important as talent. If players don’t get along we are no better than before. “There is no I in team!” Sure a great talent may get us farther but not for the long haul. 4 Quote

ND-fan Posted 16 hours ago Author Posted 16 hours ago Montana would push SDSU and NDSU if not win our conference they are big athletic if they play up to their potential if they can get past Montana state they will be good representative in ncaa or WNIT tournaments. We couldn’t match up with them at all they were nearly as big at guards as the we are at center. There girls are under listed for size when you see them compared to our girls. They are mature team you see it physicallly and how they played. The score what I was afraid it would be. The trip Montana State I even fear more that will be another big team but quicker than one we played tonight. The positive we are getting better performance out Volmer and miller inside and Fletcher showed enough why they recruited her and same with Ohnstad but both are going to need a lot of work before expect big minutes from them. That is problem with this team we’re playing playrts more minutes than we should with a lot of these players instead of bringing them along giving them time to develop their talent. This is going to be tough rebuild especially the way college basketball is now facilities need to be upgraded, Finding NIL money pick up immediate help, and everyone saying how many people want this job but if your up coming coach you need program where administration is willing to invest to win I don’t see it we are now in worse position than SU was 5 years ago and with portal and NIL influencing things even building with high school recruits difficult to keep now especially if you don’t start winning right away. They'll be more than a handful, for sure. Was just pointing out that Montana wasn't exactly playing the little sisters of the poor with respect to their 1-5 record. 1 Quote
UND92,96 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I think Hutter's mistake was allowing ALL of the players who didn't make the choice to enter the portal come back. He knew some either absolutely couldn't play at this level, or didn't fit the system he wants to run. He gambled that the players he could bring in with the roughly six scholarships he had to work with would be enough, along Demers and Aumer, to be a pretty competitive team. Anything he got from the other returnees was a nice bonus (and at least of late he's getting that from Volmer). But then Klosterbuer got hurt right away, and a few of other newcomers haven't played as well as hoped, at least so far. So now we are where we are, and last night looked even worse than normal with Demers out with an illness. He absolutely needs to add, at a minimum, an experienced point guard to replace Hughes and another 6'2-6'3" player who can play the 4 or 5 for next season. Without some players leaving that's not going to be possible, so either he makes the tough decisions, or else we're likely in for more of the same, if not worse, next season. Quote

The system you are talking about is a simple weave dribble drive offense. It's used for teams with low basketball IQ and can be implemented at the 4th grade level to create movement. Teams don't even have to prep for us because it is so predictable. 2 yrs of the same garbage! Maybe coach Hutter should try something different with a record of 1-8. As far as your idea of kicking players to the curb! I don't know how that fits into coach Hutters family of kumbaya! All so all this crap about Hutter's 6 players and Mal's players is meaningless talk. If he is such a great coach, then change the style of play to fit your strengths. SD Coyotes have 13 new players and they are 8-1. At least now we know what happens at your house when the times get tough! Quote

I'm certainly not saying Hutter is the greatest coach who ever lived, but Dawn Staley couldn't win with this roster. Nobody is going to X and O their way out of this. We need some more players who can play at this level, regardless of what system is used. 2 2 Quote
