I have seen him play a number of times over the past several years, albeit not yet at the college level. He's an explosive scorer with great shooting range, and I could see him playing at UND or some other division I school at some point. He actually used to live in Grand Forks. I know he was here for middle school anyway.

I saw a couple of weeks ago where he broke the school's single game scoring record with 32, I believe, off the bench.

I see for the season he averaged 6 ppg on 43/35/65 shooting splits. Jumped up to 16 ppg on 53/52/89 for the last 5 games.

I would think he will stay at least one more year.  His pal, Parker Brodina, is joining him at UMary next year.

UMary is so bad it might be a little bit of inflated stats on a bad team lately. I also dont watch any UMary games so take that with a grain of salt

Love the open mindness of recruits here…wasn’t long ago myself and others on this site were clowned for saying UND should bring in an proven NAIA player who had 30+ D1 offers

I think he is going to need some serious time in the weight room but a 6-9 kid who fill shoot from range is always promising.

He did win MVP of the A State Tournament I believe.

I know he's a long term project that fits the 3 & D mold. I'm just a little worried because we already have 2 ND kids on the roster who were long term projects and they appear no where near ready to contribute 2 years later.

If Ouse did not end up at UND he would have ended up at a different Summit school.  North Dakota media has not given 3 players from any boys team All State in 16 years.

I only watched Ouse in the state tournament, but he has skills and length that will make him an offensive asset.  He can shoot outside, he has reasonable ball handling skills, can hit the floater and pull-up jumper, or get to the rim - plus a lot of length.  He will definitely need to hit the weight room, but if he works hard, he is long and could be a matchup issue.  More of a Grant Nelson type that could beat 4 or 5 type guys off the dribble from outside.  Like most North Dakota players, it will be a significant jump in physicality and learning to play defense at the D1 level, but he moves well and has good ball control for a 6’9 kid.  I like his potential.

Ouse is a huge reach at best. People in the know in the FM area say his ceiling is D2. Both Century guys would be best served going back home to Mary.

How do we evaluate a ceiling?  
 

If a ceiling for a player was D2, for example, would that indicate that the player was going to be heavily recruited at a level below D2 and get a scholarship or PWO option at a few D2s? 
 

If a ceiling for a player was D1, for example, would that indicate that the player was going to be heavily recruited at a level below D1 and get a scholarship or PWO option at a few D1s?

If you think he pans out and make an impact at UND....great but I'll be the under.  He was at best the 3rd best player on his HS team. Would potentially be a great fit at MSUM.

I guess I just don’t understand taking these long term projects that may not even be d1 talent. With high majors filling a majority of their open roster spots with transfers, there’s a major trickle down in the level of high school talent that low majors can capitalize on. There’s no reason some of these kids on our roster shouldn’t be a Mary or Minot playing and developing. If they’re truly d1 players, we can grab them out of the portal later on

I'm a little more optimistic about Ouse's potential than most others on this board, but it's probably a fair point to question whether it even makes sense to sign high school players in this day and age unless you feel there's a decent chance they can contribute almost immediately. Developing a player over the course of several years was fine in the days when you could actually expect to keep him for four or five years, but obviously that almost never seems to happens anymore.

A look at the other side of the coin.  
 

Sather hit on Bruns.  Bruns is back home a year later.  
 

Sather hit on Eaglestaff.  Eaglestaff is here for 3 of 4 years and will go get paid somewhere for his final year, then be an ambassador for the University of North Dakota for the rest of his life. 
 

I am not a college basketball coach but I can see the logic in the Ouse decision.  
 

You are bringing in 3 6’8” wings.  I would imagine the Curtis twins, at least 1 of them, can add value very early.  Do guys from MN stay for 4-5 years?  In this day and age, probably not.  If they are gone after 3 years, you have a guy who has been in your program for 3 years with 2 years of eligibility left that can fill a role.
