If Berry and company lose players , good players, to the portal Chaves would have to make a switch. If that isn’t the final nail it will take years to undo the damage.

I would hope if a coaching change isn't made and then a situation like Perron/Boisvert enter portal, that could potentially force a change?  Maybe.  Who knows with Chaves.

The only way I see a no portal goalie next year is if Hobie stays and Heil comes in for a trio of Hedquist/Heil/Huson.

I’d lean toward Maine or BC since they are both thriving, let their offensive players flap their wings, and will have some openings for top 6 forward roles next year. Plus those are closer to home for him.

 

Michigan state is getting a ton of high end recruits, are displaying a winning culture and will possibly lose a couple forwards early to pros.

Keep some players like Boisvert, Perron, James, Swanson...and then add in Zellers next year?
That's a good amount of potential offensive talent on the top 2 lines.

From what I understand, the 1883 is just a brokerage, not a source of funding. Not much info about NIL on the Internet, but from what I've read NIL money comes from businesses, private sponsors & boosters of which a collective can solicit money from; not the school itself. I would imagine that because UND hockey is so popular in GF & the biggest show in town (borderline cult-like), that there would be some wealthy alumni & local businesses supporting the 1883 for hockey purposes. 

Just last summer, Dan & Jolene Mikkelson of GF donated $2 million to the hockey program for scholarships. Would be nice if they could use some of that money for NIL purposes, but perhaps the Mikkelsons want it to go solely for scholarships. Then you have the Englestads, Rydell & other very wealthy locals that you would think are gifting NIL money for the hockey program because it's such a staple there.

You would probably see more NIL contributions if the IRS classified it as a tax deductible donation, which it currently is not.

These metrics would not hold up for a proper argument on who is a better goalie haha. Less than 1% difference in save percentage when the sample size is 7 games vs 22 games? 
 

I saw the Denver game and TJ was truly great; I’d even say it’s safe to note he probably won us that game even though our team D was better than it’s been most of the year. But being great here and there hardly equals the leash he’s been given. Hobie has had great games and then TJ still gets the start the next Friday. Hobie has had good games where we lose and the goals allowed were when he was absolutely hung out to dry. Berry has said he wanted one goalie to take over but what he meant was he wants TJ to just play well enough so he could take over.
 

Watch TJ play enough and you see how often he gets out of position laterally and sometimes it’s not just a little bit. Hobie is not perfect but he is better at staying in position and not swimming out in La La land. Hobie also has the size advantage which matters nowadays with the exception of some outliers (and if you don’t have the size you have to be incredible positionally,  which TJ is not).

Let’s be clear, there’s not a massive chasm of difference between them because neither has been spectacular. But Hobie has never been given a chance to string a few together because if he makes a mistake (especially since most nights we are bad in our D zone), it’s automatically TJ the next night.

give TJ the edge in playing the puck but only by a small margin. 
 

With 2 goalies who are similar in metrics, play the one with size and who can be developed. He’s only a sophomore but the last time we won a natty was with a sophomore in net.

I guess I should prepare myself with all the talk of the mass exodus that will happen at the end of the year. 

I'm going to go with Berry had to replace 11 forwards, 2 goalies from the portal that will be here for a year, and 5 maybe 6 defensemen.

I see it finishing like this: 1 Western, 2 ASU, 3 Denver, 4 Sioux, 5 Omaha, 6 CC, 7 Clowns, 8 Miami. Plan for 4 or possibly 5 games in a row with Omaha at the Ralph. Then on to play Western in first round of Frozen Faceoff for 5th time this year. If we win that game it'll likely mean playing Denver for the 5th time for the championship. Rough row to hoe, but it can be done.

You missed UMD, which will probably be 7 and Clowns 8. Otherwise, I agree with your predictions.

That streak could end this year, because 20 will not be the magic number. It will be higher — a result of the NCHC's struggles in nonconference play. UND was a part of that, getting swept at Cornell and posting a loss and tie against Bemidji State.

The last time UND won 20-plus games and missed the NCAA tournament was 1991.
