Looking at the analytics, we are horrible defensively. EvanMiya has our defense ranked at 340 in the country. Reggie Thomas is our only perimeter defender with a positive ranking. Kind of fun the look at the analytics and see if they match the eye test.

Thanks

Do you know how the information is gathered? Do teams turn in this?

Did a little reading:

Collecting Data

We have box score data available for every game played in the each college basketball season, along with play-by-play data, which includes substitutions. The possession by possession data is the main component used to drive our analysis.

UND currently has the 355th ranked defense according to KenPom. There’s 364 teams…. In Sather’s 6 years here, his highest rated defense was 272. Brian Jones in 10 years of stats had 4 years below 272 with a low of 346 but he also had years ranked 135 and 157.

Does basketball have the fans to reenergize? It’s an old crowd. I guess maybe the youths will come with more success.

I resemble that remark but if it wasn’t for the older crowd there would be no crowd

doubt the kids will show up, not the in thing to do

The point is the older crowd won't be here forever.

If we don't inject some life into the program and get some buzz going, it will get worse.

Very true! If Chaves isn’t careful we’ll be in the same boat as USD and be lucky if we get 200 people at a game

That might be partially just a Verm issue but I get your point.

I dont know if anyone else listens to the Reaching the Summit podcast, but I just finished the episode from 2 weeks ago and I think they nailed UND.   Defense is lacking, poor shot selection, team not jelling and coach not getting them the right plays.   Until we get a change at the head spot afraid this is our future.

Yeah that all sounds about spot on to me! All things we’ve had to deal with for 6 years unfortunately with 0 changes.

Reading the hockey forum and I guess it’s still covid and the transfer portals fault???

Yep. Additionally, their inability to build off momentum is crazy. You win 7 conference games in a row last year (or whatever it was) but then falter a bit into the tourney and have an absolute meltdown in the quarterfinals.

This year, you bring Alabama to the Betty, who is a top 5 team in the nation, and bring them down to the wire. One of the best atmospheres the Betty has ever had and they had a legit shot to win that game.

Instead of building off that game, they haven’t looked the same since. Eaglestaff must have let the NIL talk get to him a bit because he has struggled big time since that game.

I forgot Sather is the only coach in America that had to deal with those 2 issues. Oh wait…..

It’s been super frustrating. I’m not sure how to really spin it any other way. I guess 2 of our 3 losses are to the current top teams in the Summit but both occurred at home and both were never really close.

Realistically I think USD is beatable home and away. Should beat Denver and ORU at home. Could beat KC once. Still not ready to say Omaha is unbeatable (but their resume is pretty impressive so far). Not sure we can beat either SU or St Thomas. That’s about as positive as I can spin it right now

Wow it’s almost like you read my mind. I was typing this kind of thing up but then just opted to not. Agree 100%.
