SiouxFan100 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Bison lost to drake by six in November after the bison being ahead after three qtrs Oh oh we are down by 19 halfway thru 2nd qtr Mathern played a lot so far - looks ok Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Positive 2nd qtr we out scored them 20-13 Down 40-30 at the half we battled. Their largest lead was 23 so we showed some fight mal experimented with our line up some Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Down by 22 after 3 qtr we have 15 turnovers drake has 20 assists to our three Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 We lose 82 - 63 drake beat us by 48 last year Drake had 25 assists and we had three mathern played 13 minutes and looked like she belonged hurst only got in with less than five minutes left in the game - leg must still be bothering her Piekey was three for three from the three we ended up with 21 turnovers with Schiller and aumer with eleven of them Drake was raining threes but they also took it to us underneath Demers had 13 rebounds but struggled from the field shooting 3-13 from underneath - she backed her gal down but had trouble finishing - will really help once she can finish and draw fouls overall after being down 20-2 to start we battled - could have been closer if Drake wasn’t hitting so many threes (13) I was entertained 1 Quote
ND-fan Posted December 14, 2024 Author Posted December 14, 2024 I. The problem again is turnovers we had 21 and it resulted in 32 points off turnovers and somebody mentioned NDSU against Drake they only had 10 turnovers and they are just as young a team as we are. It’s not just number of turnovers but it’s point differential between us and opponents. This is why we need to take care of ball because Drake had 32 points off turnovers out of 82 points for 39% of their points. I get it Mallory wants to play up tempo but you also need to play under enough control to limited number of turnovers. If we don’t get handle un this we are not going to win many games. Mathern looks like another positive to this years recruiting class she has length and has quickness to play at the D I. Peikny this year recruiting class she looks to be good recruit again has some length and again has quickness.Schiller top recruit this year also has this quickness and Volmer also has quickness to play guard. This group with Sophomores of Pemberton, Ibrahim and Horne make for good future for this team What they need isanother couple of bigger post players to help control in paint. Demers I think will get better but she needs to work on getting herself better body position when she is smaller than her opponent and experience will correct this. Quote
shep Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Nice W today. Team D was MUCH better than in past games. Everyone contributed. Keep it going next week Quote

SiouxFan100 Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Bethel is division III a 20 point win isn’t very impressive 4 Quote
NewUndFan Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 This wasn't impressive at all. We should beat these teams by 20 or more. We need to stay with D1 teams. Let's see how we do against Mayville this year Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 At least Mal acknowledged the turnovers problem at the press conference after the bethel game. Problem is she doesn’t have a quick fix she says. Individual focus - how can we continue to have players who turn it over at an unacceptable rate? Looks like bad decisions and sloppiness account for more than they should. lets hope they figure it out - won’t be successful when over 30% (over 40% at times) of your possessions are turned over Quote

ND-fan Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 UND has two prevalent type of turn overs that are creating number of turn overs this year the one is we are getting turnovers from the guards either by traveling or making poor passes on the drive or bringing the ball up the court. This is result of either trying to go to fast or we are not as quick as our opponent. Second is guard dribbling the ball off their legs or feet again we’re trying to gain advantage over opponent. All these can be corrected either by mentally slowing down getting your body under control and if we’re not quick enough to beat them one on one then you need to beat them passing and screening working as team to get open. This cuts down on individual play and scoring something not easy to players at this level to do. The second area is our post players sliding pivot foot or changing pivot foots here I believe is harder to correct because of this after offensive rebound. The big difference here usually does not lead to points off the turnover in transition. But the turnovers by guards is area where we need to cut down this where we are getting transition where we are giving up points on turnovers. I don’t expect this team to get to low turnovers but if they could get turnovers under 15 and down to say 12 we would have chance to win games with our rebounding second chance points. Quote

SiouxFan100 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Tonight is Mayville State. Yes, that Mayville State right down the road, the team we lost to last year. They are 8-4 this year. They have one player at 6 foot and one at 5’11” - the rest are shorter. They average 85 points and 11 three pointers a game. All of their players are from North Dakota and Minnesota. I note this because this should be a run away game for us. As in we are up by 25 at the half. We should dominate every aspect of this game. let’s not disappoint - focus on their three pointers shooters. Our bigs should be able to handle their post players without any help. Any post player they have should be in foul trouble early trying to stop our posts. 1 Quote

ND-fan Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 I agree that we should win by these margins but I think there are things they can do offset size. I wouldn’t be surprised we see zone defense to take away the middle or form of match up man to man. Second we need to shoot well from outside if we don’t do that the game will be not be blow out. Last year they were quicker than us and we didn’t play as team. They are smaller but they are quick as team. Still I don’t think the game will be close by end of the game and if it is we have played one poor game. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Well - no rout we are up by 4 after 1st qtr now we just need to win Quote
NewUndFan Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 How about down by 3 instead of up by 25 at half time. This isn't even a good Mayville team. 1 Quote
