Minnesota Rule

Wow...I didn't hear that Ms Gangelhoff had passed away.  What a bum rap she got in that deal.  Typical though.  She blows the whisle and is the one who takes the blame...Clem and co. get buyouts to leave.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

She wasn't kid innocent either. She knowingly wrote papers for the BB players, and even if Clems Haskin asked her to do it it's still wrong. It should also be noted the freshman enrollment time for this study was 1994-1997, there could not be a worse time to measure academics in MN's BB program. Hopefully this will show improvement under Monson, especially if he discontinues the recruitment of primma donna's like Humphries & Rickert.

I know it's not without its pitfalls, but I think attendance would increase overall.  What incentive is there for a Gopher fan to buy a ticket to a 2:35 pm game Friday afternoon not involving their team?  None, unless they're a die-hard hockey fan.  However, if it's a package deal and the price includes tickets for both games w/a short break in between, don't you think fans would go to two games?

They may very well.

I personally prefer the longer break!

Don't you mean pre-Madonnas? If you want my continued support as self-appointed SS.com spokesman (except for CRR), you're going to have to learn to use terms we can all understand.

DaveK--I figured unlike most of the country people on this site WOULD consider hockey to be a sport.

Hey! Who are you calling a country person? I live in the big city of Grand Forks.:D;)

it's fine to have the #1 seed play the afternoon game. i have no problem with the play-in game winner playing the next afternoon, it's something the #1 seed deserves. However, the problem is the inconsistencies each year depending on where the Gophers are ranked.

Set times for the games and leave it at that. If the Gophers are the 4/5 winner, then make them play in the afternoon just like this year will happen. I'm surprised they even let the 3/4 game be before the championship game if the Gophers lose on Friday.

Mory00, that's probably the best point made on the issue yet. Since it's UND/Wisconsin in the play-in game, the winner gets Denver Saturday at 2:35 pm. However, if it was Minnesota/Wisconsin and Minnesota won, the Gophers would wind up playing at 7:35 pm Saturday. This "rule" has got to go.

I always did get a kick out of the term "flamed."  Time to put in my Simpson's DVD Season #3 and watch the episode of the drink created by the local tavern owner...THE FLAMING 'MO!

He ripped that off from Homer...

Cred where cred is due...

CAN'T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW!!!!!

And yet you took the time to find it and comment on it, Bigchief?

You can bet that this subject would be the number complaint out of whining Goofer fans if the roles were reversed and this assinine rule was applied in Bucky's home rink everyyear instead. Just like the Goofs did to the league in the early sixties regarding the use of Canadian players, they would probably threaten to pick up their puck and go home. Funny how they don't seem to mind anything that tips the scales of fairplay in their favor. They are so easy to hate.

You know what was really funny about the All-Minnesota kid plan that Woog enforced. Everyone loved it and Goldy fans would chant "USA" to other teams or you'd hear fans yelling "go back to Canada" or other stupid statements. Now that that practice has been lifted, I can't find a single Gopher fan who says he or she was in favor of that policy, even though it was preached as gospel for years.

You can still find the sentiment if you look for it. It's hard for people to be vocal about it due to recent success. I truly enjoyed the all Minnesota recruiting, but I did realize that was restricting the success of the program. When Lucia opened the borders he was basically saying he was going to do what it took to win the NCAAs. Had he not won the NCAAs with ultimate dependence on Grant Potulny and Vanek, I think there would be a vocal minority harping on going back to the all Minnesota recruiting.

Times change, change with them or get left behind. When Brooks was coaching Minnesota got 99.9% of all the Minnesota kids they wanted. They came right from High School. Now ther are 5 div. 1 schools in the state and most kids do't go to div. 1 from HS. We may, ok we are arragont but most Gopher fans would not want to go back to recruiting only Minnesota kids. We have more NC to win and it is fun getting the Grand Fork and Madison faithfull upset when you take one of there boys away from them. Just like when we loose good player to the other teams. Tell me you don't enjoy have Mr Mn. Hockey going to UND next year. Good luck tonight and take becky out.
