If he chipped it, and was tracking it down, then Jamernik would have time to tag up. It was close either way. Rule question regarding the controversial offsides: does Jamernik have to tag up before Caulfield crosses the blue line, or does Jamernik just have to tag up before Caulfield touches the puck? Quote

yzerman19 Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 if the puck leaves and enters the offensive zone and isn't possessed by the attacking team, and attacking players are still behind the play in the offensive zone, it is a delayed offsides; requiring all attacking players to clear the offensive zone before they can legally possess the puck in the offensive zone. Frozen4sioux Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 The big issue on those offsides calls is the "possession" of the puck... if it's not on the players stick in their control its not "possessed" ... andnit wasn't.... So as the puck wasn't on the players stick, teammate has time to tag up, which he did...... In game speed, the play looked iffy.... In still photos it was 100% dead to rights offside. In super minute HD replay slow motion, looking at every frame with a FULL and complete understanding of the rule, the play is technically onside. I accept and understand making a bad call in game speed as part of the game, especially offsides... err on the side of "it can be reviewed" IMHO.... However, I expect the officials to get this right in the box. They didn't. Jackson was right to be pissed but no official is going back under the hood and admitting they didn't fully understand the rule. Quote
