After a slow start to the season where Miller spotted the gopher wunderkind about an 8 point lead he's stayed with him pretty well pointswise. Neither of them are lighting up the league, so it remains to be seen if both are just not performing at a high level or if other factors are keeping their points numbers at a lower level. Miller is likely not the same level prospect of a Wheeler, but for this year playing on the same team their production is not terribly different once you throw out the first several games.

Updated SSM stats after a 9-3 and 8-1 sweeping of Edge School in Calgary:

04 Taylor Chorney Defense 12 4-27-87 5'11" 180 Hastings, MN 45 4 25 29 50

08 Kyle Okposo Forward 11 4-16-88 6' 195 St. Paul, MN 44 33 29 62 50

09 Jonathan Toews Forward 12 4-29-88 6'1" 180 Winnipeg, MB 43 33 41 74 26

10 Michael Gergen Forward 12 2-17-87 5'11" 185 Hastings, MN 47 41 35 76 80

21 Charles Genoway Forward 12 12-20-86 5'9" 170 Morden, MB 44 16 27 43 34

Gergen (UMD) with a HUGE weekend, getting 8 points with 6 goals.

Okposo (Minn) gets one point on the weekend.

Genoway (possible UND recruit ??) gets 3 points.

Toews gets 7 points on the weekend, but just one goal. He must have been pretty busy setting up Gergen, as they are on the same line!

Chorney didn't play either game, not sure if he is injured or if he just had the weekend off.

Gergen leads the team in points with 76, but Toews is right there with him with 74 points.

To expand on the above:

In the first 7 games

Miller 0-1-1

Wheeler 5-4-9

In the last 9 games (Miller's played in 8)

Miller *3-6-9

Wheeler 4-5-9

So far for the year

Miller 11-13-24 3rd on team in scoring

Wheeler 14-18-32 1st on team in scoring

*In addition to these official stats, Miller scored a goal in a shootout

I attended the Moorhead/Roseau game last night (MHD won 7-0). VandeVelde had one assist and Lee had a goal and assist.

Lee played a very solid game, in my opinion. He was strong on the puck, made some nice passes and skated well. The one thing I really noticed about him last night is the amount of poise he had with the puck. He certainly didn't appear to get rattled easily when the puck was on his stick no matter the number of opponents surrounding him.

On another note, a young gal (high school age) got smoked in the head by a puck last night. She was sitting two rows up from the ice, near a faceoff dot in Moorhead's offensive zone. She was carried from the arena and had what can only be described as an enormous welt on her forehead. Thankfully, there was no blood and she did not need to be transported to the hospital, but it was a scary moment nonetheless.

Warroad's T.J. Oshie 2nd In State In Scoring w/ 70 Points & Warrior's Remain Unbeaten @ 19-0-2

The Warroad Warriors Boy's Hockey team defeated the defending North Dakota State Champion, Grand Forks Central Knights, 6-0, last night at the Cliff "Fido" Purpur Arena.

Senior winger, Ben Bengtson, recorded the "natural" hat trick tallying 3 goals + 1 assist while linemate, T.J. Oshie, notched 1 goal + 3 assists in the 6-0 rout at GF Central. Bengtson now has

29+20=49 points on the season while Oshie stands at 24+46=70 to lead Warroad. Senior defensemen Eric Olimb scored a goal and added 2 assists to up his totals to 10+26=36 while linemate Kyle Hardwick had 1 assist for a 11+38=49 season tally.

Warroad dominated the game start to finish displaying a very unselfish style of playmaking and goal scoring. The line of Oshie, Bengtson and Brodeen finished with 10 points and missed numerous other chances. The Warrior's scored 1 power-play goal upping the season total to 47 goals in 101 chances for a 46.7 clip. Warroad's penalty kill has been even more impressive killing off 111 of 119 kills for a 6.7 mark while scoring 17 shorthanded goals on the season.

Josh Brodeen added 2 assists to his total of 16+20=36 and senior defensemen, Bryan Hamlin, scored his second goal of the season and added a lone helper.

Junior goaltender Tyler Potts stifled the Knights stopping all 13 shots to push his season totals to 7-0-0 with a 1.31 GAA and .913 save percentage. Potts also assisted on T.J. Oshie' third period breakaway goal to give him 2 assists on the season.

The victory pushes Warroad to 19-0-2 as they remain the only unbeaten team in Minnesota going into a tough 2-game series at Bemidji on Friday night and a matinee tilt at Duluth Marshall on Saturday.

I think if you look at Green Bays seasons roster they have had 38 different players in their lineup this season.....I relaize they are trying to improve, but it must be difficult for any of these players to get comfortable with linemates when they are different every week!!

If you look at a lot of USHL and NAHL rosters all of the teams bring guys in for 2 days and then keep them or cut them.  Last year Bismark must of had over 40 guys come in and out and they made it to the National Championship game.  It's very competitive.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

These teams are almost always like that - between HS players coming and going, injuries, homesickness, trades and kids just getting cut.

I see Deutz from Moorhead was recently dropped by Indianapolis, hopefully he can catch on somewhere else.

In that case, Chorney should fit right in next year at UND.

You know, if someone really did that into your Wheaties this morning you can pour it out and get a fresh bowl. :silly:

The defense isn't the problem.

Having to play Scott Foyt and Robbie Bina at forward is a problem. Having most of your senior forwards "on the side of a milk carton", that's a problem. Both of those are much bigger factors than the defense last night.

Thanks for the update on Shattuck. I went to todays game and was impressed with the team as a whole but a few guys in particular. As far as having a nose for the puck and creating scoring chances, Okposo takes the cake. He seemed to be everywhere the puck went. Toews had a couple of goals I believe (one for sure) and looked quite good. Genoway looked solid. It's hard not to notice Dowzak with his size, but he looked very poised. It is hard to believe that Esposito is only 15. He looked great. Did anyone else go to the game? Any thoughts?

SSM clearly outclassed the Chicago team, and did look good top to bottom. I was expecting Toews/Gergen/Okposo to be on the same line given their scoring numbers (somewhat like Parise/Murray/Hirsch), but Okposo played on a different line (although the 3 were together on the PP unit).

Toews uses his height/reach very well, hard to knock off the puck, and great in a crowd. Chicago resorted to wrapping him up and taking him down to get the puck away several times. Chorney, unlike reports from Friday, played very well, very fluid skater, was solid defensively and moved and carried the puck well (didn't see any giveaways like several saw the day before).

Gergen didn't stick out like Toews and Okposo, but SSM is so good top to bottom it's hard to watch more than those one is especially interested in seeing. The Genoway line with Esposito got a lot of ice time, and looked very good.

Was nice to see the very Sioux-like short passing game employed by SSM, even on the large Olympic ice. Good experience for playing next year in the NHL-sized REA. rink. They are good at it, impressive to watch.

Many of the Sioux players watched a fair amount of the game. Hoped some of the SSM scoring might rub off, maybe in two weeks.
