Tough game to watch.

Columbia was nothing but thug play until (finally) the American ref pulled numerous yellow cards in a row- some on

England too. He lost control of the game for 1/3 of it. But England did not play offense either....

No one to root for here- kind of hoped both teams would lose. And England goes thru with less penalty misses.

Doubt either team gets another win so winner doesn't matter.

England should still be favored over Sweden and possibly favored over Croatia (and especially Russia).

The England hype machine is going to start ramping up full throat over the next few days.

France moving on to the semi-finals.  They are rounding into form.

Their next game is going to be a juicy matchup. I hope Kompany snaps Neymar in half this next game.

It’s time for Belgium’s golden generation to get it done.  Brazil is due for a clunker.

either way:  France/Belgium or France/Brazil will be an excellent semifinal (or the defacto Final)

This Russia-Croatia game is crazy. Penalties will decide. These players are gassed. The tougher team will move on. Also Croatia’s keeper has a hammy that has been cramping on him, not ideal for pks.

Sort of hope Croatia wins against England tomorrow.  They have arguably the best midfielders in the world, but from a country of only a little more than 4 million.  Many of their players experienced the Yugoslav civil war growing up.  The Real Madrid star, Luka Modric was a child refugee after his grandfather, who boarded him while his parents worked elsewhere, was viciously shot and killed.

Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic’s family escaped to Switzerland to avoid the violence.

Croatia has some crooked club teams, like Dinamo Zagreb, which has caused the country a ton of grief, but that doesn’t take away what these players have overcome.
