Wonder why they never did that then?

Same with completing IPF phase two?

Same with a new on campus football stadium instead of waiting for the city to build them one (Alerus).

All of UND's major sports are playing in a nice facility because someone or something other than the University stepped up to the plate.

That’s kinda the only way to get it done in this state.  The legislature has the other methods in such a stranglehold.

Maybe the Engelstads have outlived their usefulness. A one-trick (albeit a big one) pony with perpetual sour grapes about the Sioux. Maybe they're insufferable, which is why the negotiations went south?

“Usefulness”?

Think back on your life about someone who did something for you they didn’t have to and it changed everything.

Thank you Englestads

I would call what Ralph did usefulness but it seems like a spoiled kid, with a lot of power, holding a university hostage for her own personal gain. After all UND is not her Alma mater so why should she care as long as the money is flowing her way. The whole reneging on the UNLV med school is painting her (not Ralph, not Betty, but Kris) is a whole new light.

Here we go away with she's taking home profits from the Ralph Engelstad Arena? :silly:

Her job, more or less, is to give money away.

She hasn't been giving away money lately and money is flowing in. Where it is going is the question, and it is a valid question.

She didn’t do a good job of that at UNLV did she?

You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

She and her foundation a few months ago gave away another $3 million in Grand Forks.

I wouldn't give money to someone I dislike either. Not groundbreaking stuff.

So holding schools hostage with their donations seems to be an unfavorable pattern.

Regardless, that flow of money came to an abrupt stop when Kennedy took office in 2016, which Carlson Zink said marked the conclusion of the Engelstad pledge.

For that year, the family foundation gave only $20,000 to the UND alumni group. In that same year, the foundation gave $37,000 to the club hockey program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Financial reports for 2017 aren't yet available.

Yep, spending money for football sales, something they shouldn’t have their hands on.

Sensing a theme here recently........ attitude of ungratefulness for the dollars given in the past by the Foundation yet there's a hostage crisis on our university now because the Foundation hasn't given enough lately. Did I miss anything else?

Not disagreeing but if they take thousands yet give back millions is UND still losing and being held hostage? Not good at math but more zeros trump less zeros.

The theme is the board of directors at UND/REA is secretly funneling all the profits from the building to the Engelstad Foundation without any of them noticing and them using that money to redonate it later to UND, organizations in Grand Forks, and other places throughout the country! :tinfoilhat:

The attitude of what is happening in May of 2018 has nothing to do with happened almost 20 years ago. The two are not connected, as Ralph and ONLY Ralph helped the hockey program with HIS donation, how is Kris McGarry helping the school by running to the GFH and bashing Kennedy without proof. As of now it’s a he said, she said, but her action at UNLV speaks a lot.

it has nothing to do with ungratefulness, but the gift wasn't without a price. The bottom line is they have a lease agreement with us that is very one sided. The Ralph was gifted to benefit the University, yet here we are losing millions in revenue annually to the foundation and that money isn't coming back to UND as originally planned. Lease agreements matter to a university and the lack of state funding is making it a problem.

Seeing as they donated $20,000 in 2016, and give football sales back to either UND or the city, I don’t think the school will be hurting.
