hoops44 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Charlotte, N.C. -- Samaritan's Feet International proudly announces that Brian Jones, head men's basketball coach for the University of North Dakota, has been selected as the 2016 "Barefoot Coach of the Year." Jones will be presented with the award at the Legends of Hardwood Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 2 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in conjunction with the Final Four. Coach Jones has coached a game barefoot during the past four basketball seasons to help create awareness for the Samaritan's Feet cause and has also had his teams participate in local shoe drives where the players and staff members have washed the feet of those in need.Coach Jones has demonstrated the five pillars of being a barefoot coach: giving a voice to the voiceless, creating awareness for Samaritan's Feet, providing shoes to impoverished children, enhancing the image for coaches, schools, athletes, and the NCAA through courageous efforts, and providing multiple opportunities to engage people in a life of service."I'm honored and humbled to receive this award that so many outstanding coaches have also earned," Jones said. "Serving is a big pillar of our program at the University of North Dakota and Samaritan's Feet is a great way to show our team the importance of serving others. This platform is a way to get young people to be a part of something that is bigger than themselves."The Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast now stands as one of the premier events during the NCAA Final Four weekend. The 20th annual event is hosteed by CBS Sports' Clark Kellogg and Spencer Tillman of Fox Sports 1. The Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast recognizes the importance of leadership, character and integrity and honors heroes in the world of sports. 3 Quote
